“Damaged Box” on our listings doesn’t describe the cards inside — it describes the outer cardboard box, and it comes in two grades. Grade A and Grade B mean different things, they’re priced separately, and neither one guarantees a discount against the regular sealed box for the same set.
This guide quotes exactly what our own product pages say Grade A and Grade B mean, then lines up current prices across every set where we carry both a regular box and a Damaged Box listing.
Grade A means “minor cosmetic damage to the outer box, such as small dents or scuffs,” with the original shrink wrap present. Grade B means “more noticeable cosmetic damage to the outer box, such as dents, creases, or scuffs,” also with shrink wrap present but possibly showing wear. In both grades, our pages state “the cards inside are unaffected.” On SV2A Pokemon 151, the Damaged Box is currently listed at ¥43,200 (~$281) and the Damaged Box (Grade B) at ¥42,300 (~$275).

What “Damaged Box” Means on Our Listings
Our SV2A Pokemon 151 Damaged Box product page states: “Sealed with shrink wrap intact. This box is unopened and still sealed in its original shrink wrap. It is discounted because of cosmetic damage to the outer box (e.g., dents or scratches). The cards inside are unaffected.” A separate live guide on our site adds: “It refers to a separate product listing from the regular sealed box for the same set. Specifics of what is damaged are set out on each individual product page rather than a single fixed definition across all sets.”
That last point is the one to hold onto: “Damaged Box” is a listing category, not a single uniform condition. What’s actually wrong with any given box is described on that box’s own product page.
Grade A vs Grade B, Quoted
Where a set has two damage tiers, our SV2A Pokemon 151 product page spells out the difference directly: “Damage grade A: This box has minor cosmetic damage to the outer box, such as small dents or scuffs. Grade B boxes (sold separately) have more noticeable damage such as larger dents, creases, or scuffs. In both grades the cards inside are unaffected.”

Our SV1A Triplet Beat Damaged Box page uses the same Grade A wording for a different set: “Minor cosmetic damage to the outer box, such as small dents or scuffs. Original shrink wrap is present and may also show wear or damage.” Both pages also carry the acknowledgement text: “This order contains discounted item(s) sold at a reduced price due to cosmetic condition issues (e.g., damaged shrink wrap, dented box). The cards inside are unaffected. I understand and accept the condition of the item(s).” Both grade pages add: “Photos are samples. They show representative examples of the condition. The actual item you receive may differ from the photos.”

On SV2A, Sealed is ¥45,900, the Damaged Box is ¥43,200 and Grade B is ¥42,300. On S8B, Sealed is ¥31,680 and Grade B is ¥31,020, while the plain Damaged Box is sold out. Regular White Flare Sealed is ¥20,400, the Damaged Box is ¥19,200 and Grade B is ¥18,800. Terastal Festival ex Sealed and its Damaged Box are sold out at the time of this update; its ¥15,600 No Shrink option is a different packaging choice, so it is not a like-for-like sealed-box discount comparison. Each product and condition tier needs its own current check.
Why “Damaged” Isn’t Always Cheaper
Our own live guide to this category puts it plainly: “‘Damaged Box’ sounds like a discount. [As of that check,] for five of the six Japanese Pokemon sets we checked, it isn’t one.” That guide’s own count is from a different date and a different set of six pairs than the nine above, but the underlying point holds across both readings: “Never assume ‘Damaged’ means cheaper — check both listings first.”
The same guide also addresses the label itself: “Read what the specific listing says about condition. Any ‘Damaged’ detail is set out on each individual product page — it isn’t a fixed, uniform category across sets.” That’s consistent with the Grade A and Grade B wording quoted above — the grade tells you roughly how visible the box damage is, not what the box will cost relative to a sealed copy of the same set.
Separately, our Product Condition Guide page states: “A sealed box means a product whose manufacturer shrink wrap or factory seal remains intact as shipped by the manufacturer,” and that “minor wrinkles, air bubbles, or looseness in the shrink wrap; minor corner wear, pressure marks, or printing variations on the outer box” are normal in manufacturing and distribution, “not defects and not grounds for a return, refund, or discount.” Both Grade A and Grade B listings are sold as-is: our SV2A Grade B page states, “This item is sold as-is. We do not respond to inquiries about this item, and returns and refunds are not accepted.”

What’s the difference between Grade A and Grade B Damaged Box?

No. On S9 Star Birth, the Damaged Box matches the sealed price at ¥19,200 (~$125). Each set has to be checked individually.
Are the cards inside a Damaged Box affected?
Our product pages state “the cards inside are unaffected” for both Grade A and Grade B — the damage described is to the outer cardboard box, not the sealed packs or cards inside.
Can I return a Damaged Box if I don’t like the condition?
No. Our Grade B listing states: “This item is sold as-is. We do not respond to inquiries about this item, and returns and refunds are not accepted.”
Does every set have both a Grade A and a Grade B listing?
No. Some sets currently carry only a plain Damaged Box, some only a Grade B, and a few carry both, as shown in the price table above.
Is the shrink wrap intact on a Damaged Box?
Yes, on both grades. Our product pages state the original shrink wrap is present, though it “may also show wear or damage.”
