The Mitsuhiro Arita Raikou Pokemon card list in the official Japanese card database has three entries: ライコウ SM3p 033/072, ライコウ SMH 035/131 and ライコウ SM8b 034/150. Each row credits Mitsuhiro Arita as illustrator, each shows HP 120, and each carries the same two attacks, とどろくらいめい and ライトニングボール. This guide reads those three rows one at a time, sets them beside the other Sun & Moon-code Raikou entries, and places Arita’s Raikou work next to his Entei and Suicune credits.
Every number below comes from the database page for the card as read on October 29, 2026, plus our own Mitsuhiro Arita guide for background on the artist. We sell Japanese sealed boxes and PSA 10 singles from Tokyo and do not list these three prints; the store figures in this article are for other products and are linked where they appear. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD and are approximate.
- The official database credits Mitsuhiro Arita on three Raikou entries: SM3p 033/072 (card ID 34029), SMH 035/131 (card ID 35064) and SM8b 034/150 (card ID 35494). All three show HP 120 and the Pokédex line No.243.
- The three rows print identical card text. They differ by set code, number, denominator and database ID, so the number in the corner is what separates them.
- The Raikou printed in SM8 itself, 037/095, credits Kagemaru Himeno, not Arita. The nearest sealed product we list for that era is the SM8 booster box at ¥110,750 (~$719).
- Arita also appears on Entei (XY 011/171 and XY7-B 015/081) and Suicune (XY9-B 020/080 and XYP 205/XY-P) in the database.
Mitsuhiro Arita’s Raikou Entries in the Official Database
The official card database credits Mitsuhiro Arita on three Raikou entries. They sit in three different set codes, and the denominators (072, 131, 150) show that each belongs to a different-sized release.
| Card | Set code and number | Database card ID | Illustrator | HP | Pokédex line |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
The Pokédex line いかずちポケモン reads as “Thunder Pokémon” (rendering). The database does not print rarity letters, release dates or set names on these rows, so this guide does not attach any of them to the three prints. What the rows do give is a number, a code, an HP, an illustrator credit and the card text, and that is enough to identify each print without guessing.
Raikou SM3p 033/072

The SM3p row is the one with the lowest set count of the three: 033 out of 072. It is a Basic Pokémon with HP 120, and the database lists two attacks.
| Printed name | Damage | Effect, rendered |
|---|---|---|
| とどろくらいめい | 30 | Attach 1 Energy card from your discard pile to 1 of your Benched Pokémon. (rendering; the attack name reads roughly “Rumbling Thunder”) |
| ライトニングボール | 90 | No additional effect text on the row. (name reads “Lightning Ball”) |
The first attack is a small damage number paired with a setup effect: it moves an Energy card out of the discard pile and onto a Benched Pokémon. The second is a plain 90-damage attack with no effect text. The database page also prints a resistance value of −20 in the stat row; the image above shows the same layout as printed.
Because the database gives no release date for the set code, this guide does not date the card. The Mitsuhiro Arita credit is the fixed point: it is printed on the database row for this number and code.
Raikou SMH 035/131 and SM8b 034/150
The other two Arita rows use the same card text as SM3p 033/072. The database shows the same two attacks at the same damage numbers, the same HP of 120 and the same No.243 line. Only the code, number, denominator and database ID change.

| Field | SM3p 033/072 | SMH 035/131 | SM8b 034/150 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Database card ID | 34029 | 35064 | 35494 |
| Illustrator | Mitsuhiro Arita | Mitsuhiro Arita | Mitsuhiro Arita |
| HP | 120 | 120 | 120 |
| とどろくらいめい | 30 | 30 | 30 |
| ライトニングボール | 90 | 90 | 90 |
| Set denominator | 072 | 131 | 150 |
The database does not say whether the artwork is the same illustration on all three or a different illustration in each. A shared illustrator credit and shared text do not settle that, so compare the official images above before treating the three as one design. What the table does settle is that the three are separate database entries with separate IDs, which is why a collector asking for “Arita Raikou” needs to give the set code as well.
The Other Sun & Moon-Code Raikou Entries
Two more Raikou rows carry SM-prefixed set codes: SM8 037/095 and SM12a 044/173. They are different cards, with a different attack, and neither credits Arita.
| Set code and number | Illustrator | HP | Attack text, rendered |
|---|---|---|---|
| SM3p 033/072 | Mitsuhiro Arita | 120 | Attach an Energy from the discard pile to a Benched Pokémon (30); 90 damage attack |
| SMH 035/131 | Mitsuhiro Arita | 120 | Same text as SM3p 033/072 |
| SM8b 034/150 | Mitsuhiro Arita | 120 | Same text as SM3p 033/072 |
| SM8 037/095 | Kagemaru Himeno | 120 | ロストボルテージ 30+: 90 more damage if you have Energy in your Lost Zone (rendering) |
| SM12a 044/173 | nagimiso | 120 | ロストボルテージ 30+: same text as SM8 037/095 |
So within the SM-prefixed Raikou rows, the Arita credit marks exactly the group that shares the とどろくらいめい text, while the Himeno and nagimiso rows share the ロストボルテージ text. That is a database observation about these five rows only; it says nothing about prints outside the database.
The wider history of the beast across eras is covered in our legendary beasts card guide, and the Classic Collection print Raikou 162/103, credited to Hideki Ishikawa, is in the Raikou 162/103 guide.
The SM8 Box and the Arita Prints
The SM8 booster box is the nearest sealed product we list in this code line, so the relationship is worth stating precisely. SM8 is a different set code from SM3p, SMH and SM8b, and the Raikou printed in SM8 is 037/095 by Kagemaru Himeno. Buying the SM8 box does not mean buying the Arita prints; it means buying sealed product from the SM-code line that sits nearest to the SM8b code.
The product we list is titled “SM8-Super Explosive Impact Japanese Pokemon Booster Box”. Our PSA 10 listing names for SM8 cards use the set name “Super-Burst Impact”, for example “PSA10 Suicune GX RR [SM8 028/095]”. The set code SM8 is the same in both.
If you want one of the three Arita Raikou prints specifically, the sealed route does not target them. A specific single is a sourcing request, and those go through Quick Order.
Arita’s Entei and Suicune Credits
The database also credits Mitsuhiro Arita on three Entei rows and two Suicune rows (XY9-B 020/080 and XYP 205/XY-P, same text). Seen together with the Raikou prints they form a small set of credits across the three legendary beasts.
| Card | Set code and number | Card ID | HP | Text, rendered |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| エンテイ | XY 011/171 | 33563 and 33732 (two entries) | 130 | Ancient trait Θ Double: can have up to 2 Pokémon Tools attached. フレイムバリア 30: damage this Pokémon takes from attacks is reduced by 30 during the opponent’s next turn. ヒートタックル 130: flip a coin; tails, 30 damage to itself. |
| エンテイ | XY7-B 015/081 | 30988 | 130 | Same text as XY 011/171 |
| スイクン | XY9-B 020/080 | 31492 | 120 | Ability かぜのまもり: while this Pokémon is in the Active Spot, your Pokémon are not affected by the effects of the opponent’s attacks (effects already applied stay). オーロラビーム 110. |
| スイクン | XYP 205/XY-P | 31646 | 120 | Same text as XY9-B 020/080 |

Two details are worth keeping straight. First, the XY7-B set holds two Entei rows: 014/081 credits Naoki Saito at HP 120, and 015/081 credits Mitsuhiro Arita at HP 130, so the two numbers are different cards. Second, the Entei XY 011/171 appears under two database IDs for the same printed number, which is a database detail and not a second card number.
The wider Entei family is covered in our Entei cards guide.
Who Mitsuhiro Arita Is
Our Mitsuhiro Arita guide describes him as an illustrator who joined in the 1996 prototype era of the Pokemon Card Game. It names his Base Set Charizard 4/102 and Pikachu 58/102, credits him with the first six Energy symbols, and gives a total of about 645 cards. The legendary-beast credits listed in this article sit well inside that body of work.
Two points keep this section honest. The guide’s own list of credits does not name the Raikou, Entei or Suicune prints, so the beast credits here rest on the official database rows and not on that guide. And the database credits are per entry: a card with a different number or set code is a different entry, even when the character is the same.
Where Arita Sits in the Raikou Illustrator List
The official database holds 24 Raikou entries, among them two LEGEND combinations. Grouped by illustrator, the credits read as follows.
| Illustrator | Raikou entries |
|---|---|
| Mitsuhiro Arita | SM3p 033/072, SMH 035/131, SM8b 034/150 |
| Shin Nagasawa | XY 033/171 (two database entries), XY8-Br 026/059 |
| PLANETA Mochizuki | S12a 038/172, SI 137/414 (two database entries) |
| nagimiso | S12a 218/172, SM12a 044/173 |
| aky CG Works | M6 024/076, M6 092/076 |
| Hideki Ishikawa | S3a 015/076, M6a 162/103 |
| Noriko Hotta | LP 061/L-P, LP 064/L-P |
| Shinji Higuchi | Entei & Raikou LEGEND and Raikou & Suicune LEGEND (L2-B) |
| Kagemaru Himeno | SM8 037/095 |
| Takumi Wada | M1S 030/063 |
| Oku | M6 108/076 |
| shizurow | BW4-B 025/069 (Raikou EX) |
| Ryo Ueda | DP3 DPBP#293 |
Three artists hold three database entries each in that list: Mitsuhiro Arita, Shin Nagasawa (XY 033/171 counted twice plus XY8-Br 026/059) and PLANETA Mochizuki (S12a 038/172 plus SI 137/414 counted twice). Cards from before the database era, such as the old-back Neo cards, the e-series and the 2005 ☆ print, are not in the database at all, so this table speaks only for the entries it covers.
How to Tell the Three Prints Apart
A Japanese card number reads “position/total”. For these three, the total in the denominator is the first check, followed by the code printed beside it.
| If the card shows | It is | Illustrator in the database |
|---|---|---|
| 033/072 | Raikou SM3p | Mitsuhiro Arita |
| 035/131 | Raikou SMH | Mitsuhiro Arita |
| 034/150 | Raikou SM8b | Mitsuhiro Arita |
| 037/095 | Raikou SM8 (a different card) | Kagemaru Himeno |
| 044/173 | Raikou SM12a (a different card) | nagimiso |
If the card reads ライコウ with the とどろくらいめい attack and a number in the 072, 131 or 150 range, it belongs to the Arita group. If it carries ロストボルテージ instead, it is one of the other two SM-code rows, whatever the artwork looks like.
Raikou and Arita Cards We List (Different Prints)
We do not list the three Arita Raikou prints. The Raikou cards we do list are different prints, and an Arita Entei is included because it shares the artist. Rarity letters in the table are as our listing names carry them. Each is a different card from the three above.
| Listing (as named by us) | Link to the three Arita prints | Our price |
|---|---|---|
| PSA10 Entei [XY 011/171] (High Class Pack “The Best of XY”) | Same artist, Entei instead of Raikou | Currently listed at ¥41,088 (~$267) |
| PSA10 Raikou V SAR [s12a 218/172] (High Class Pack “VSTAR Universe”) | Different artist (nagimiso) | PSA 10 back order at ¥18,574 (~$121) |
| PSA10 Raikou EX SR :1ED [BW4 071/069] (Expansion Pack “Dark Rush”) | Different era; the base Raikou EX row (BW4-B 025/069) credits shizurow | PSA 10 back order at ¥148,720 (~$966) |
| PSA10 Raikou :1ED [e4 039/088] (Expansion Pack Vol.4 “Split Earth”) | Pre-database print | PSA 10 back order at ¥264,600 (~$1,718) |
The back orders are sourced to order, and each product page shows the current terms. Of the four listing names, the Entei is the one verified here as an Arita print: the database shows Mitsuhiro Arita on the Entei XY 011/171 row, and our listing carries the same number and set code. The illustrators of the other listed prints are not assigned here. The Raikou rows are included so a reader who arrives looking for Raikou has the current Raikou listings in one place.
For the M6 Raikou ex, 024/076 in Storm Emeralda, credited to aky CG Works, the sealed route is the M6 Storm Emeralda booster box, currently listed as Sealed ¥8,926 (~$58) / No Shrink ¥8,853 (~$57). That is a different artist and a different card from the Arita prints.
Why Raikou Is in the News
On October 29, 2026 fan sites reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「イナズマの衝撃」 (working English translation: Lightning Impact; no official English name exists), which collectors read as a possible Raikou set; nothing is announced. Our Raikou trademark guide explains what is confirmed and what is not, and the round-up of the 2027 trademark reports puts the four filings side by side.
For a value-by-listing read across every Raikou entry we list, see the Raikou Pokemon card value guide; the PSA 10 side of the V SAR is in the Raikou V PSA 10 guide.
Where to Buy Raikou and Arita Cards from Japan
What we list that relates to this guide: the SM8 booster box at ¥110,750 (~$719); the Arita Entei XY 011/171 as a PSA 10 at ¥41,088 (~$267); and the Raikou back orders at ¥18,574 (~$121) for the V SAR 218/172, ¥148,720 (~$966) for the EX SR 1ED 071/069 and ¥264,600 (~$1,718) for the e4 039/088 1ED. In rendering, とどろくらいめい does 30 damage and attaches 1 Energy card from your discard pile to 1 of your Benched Pokemon, and ライトニングボール does 90 damage with no effect text on the database row.
Is the Arita Raikou in the SM8 booster box?
No. The Raikou printed in SM8 itself is 037/095, credited to Kagemaru Himeno. The Arita prints use the set codes SM3p, SMH and SM8b.
Did Mitsuhiro Arita illustrate Entei and Suicune cards too?
The database credits him on Entei XY 011/171 and XY7-B 015/081 and on Suicune XY9-B 020/080 and XYP 205/XY-P. The XY7-B set also holds a different Entei, 014/081, credited to Naoki Saito.
Do you list the Arita Raikou cards?
We do not currently list SM3p 033/072, SMH 035/131 or SM8b 034/150. Sourcing requests for a specific card go through Quick Order.
