The Pokemon 20th anniversary starter pack is the product our catalogue names Pocket Monster Card Game “Pokemon Card Game Starter Pack”, with the set tag XY-20th, and its two Charizard cards are Charizard EX printed XY-20th 010/072 and M Charizard EX printed XY-20th 011/072. Both are offered as PSA 10 back orders, sourced to order, and this guide explains what the listing names and numbers tell you and what they do not.
The official details of this pack (release date, price, deck contents) are not in our sources, so none are stated here. What we can offer is the listing names, the printed numbers, our own listed prices, and the official facts about other Japanese starter products and a modern Mega Charizard card for context. We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD and are approximate.
- Charizard EX XY-20th 010/072 is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥28,046 (~$182), sourced to order.
- M Charizard EX XY-20th 011/072 is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥123,963 (~$805), sourced to order.
- The two numbers are consecutive in a set that prints 072 as its base count. Official pack details are not in our sources.
Listing names, prices and links are as shown on our site on October 29, 2026. Official facts come from pokemon-card.com; anything not in our sources is marked as such.
The Two Charizard Cards in the Starter Pack
Our catalogue names a card with the grade, the card name, the printed number in brackets and the product in parentheses. The two Charizard cards of the starter pack read as follows.
| Listing name (as we name it) | Number | Our price |
|---|---|---|
| PSA10 Charizard EX [XY-20th 010/072] (Pocket Monster Card Game “Pokemon Card Game Starter Pack”) | 010/072 | PSA 10 back order at ¥28,046 (~$182) |
| PSA10 M Charizard EX [XY-20th 011/072] (Pocket Monster Card Game “Pokemon Card Game Starter Pack”) | 011/072 | PSA 10 back order at ¥123,963 (~$805) |
Both are offered as PSA 10 back orders, sourced to order. The product pages show the current terms. The prices are our listing prices for the PSA 10 grade, not sales and not market values.
Reading XY-20th 010/072 and 011/072
The text before the number is the set tag, XY-20th. The two figures are the card’s position and the base count of 072. Three things follow from the numbers alone.
- The two Charizard cards are neighbours: 010 and 011 are consecutive, and the Mega card is the later number.
- Both are numbered inside the base count of 072, so neither is numbered above the denominator.
- Other cards of the same tag in our listing names are also numbered inside 072 (Pikachu 018, Zapdos 020, Gengar 026).
Not every listing in our catalogue for this product line follows that pattern. Two listings use the shorter tag “20th” and carry the numbers 002/072 and 074/072, and the second of them is numbered above the denominator. Whether a number above 072 means a special print in this product, as it does in some modern products, is not stated in our sources.
| Tag in the listing name | Numbers we see | Product name in the listing |
|---|---|---|
| XY-20th | 010/072, 011/072, 018/072, 020/072, 026/072 | Pocket Monster Card Game “Pokemon Card Game Starter Pack” |
| 20th | 002/072 | Pocket Monster Card Game “Pokemon Card Game Starter Pack” |
| 20th | 074/072 | Pocket Monster Card Game “Starter Pack Blastoise ver.” |
The third row is a separate named product, “Starter Pack Blastoise ver.”, so the Blastoise card is not part of the same product name as the Charizard cards in our catalogue. How the versions of the pack relate to each other is not in our sources.
Charizard EX and M Charizard EX: Two Names
The listing names write the Pokemon with a capital EX, and the second card carries the prefix M, for Mega. The prefix changes the card’s name, and card names matter in the official deck-building rule: the official how-to-play page limits a deck to four cards of the same name, and it gives Pikachu and Pikachu ex as an example of two different names.
| Rule (official wording, rendered) | What it means for these two cards |
|---|---|
| A deck is 60 cards. | Applies to every starter deck in this guide. |
| Up to 4 cards with the same name. | The names Charizard EX and M Charizard EX differ, as the Pikachu example shows for a similar pair. |
| A deck needs at least one Basic Pokemon. | Which stage each Charizard EX card has is not in our sources. |
That reading is limited to the current official wording. Whether an older format treated these names the same way, and whether the two cards are legal in the Standard format in force from Friday, January 23, 2026 (marks H, I, J), are questions for the official rules page rather than for this guide. The card text, HP and attacks of both cards are not in our sources.
The same period of the game is covered in our guide to The Best of XY High Class Pack, and the 20th-anniversary CP6 product has its own page in our Pokemon 20th anniversary CP6 guide. This article is about the starter pack, not about CP6.
Other Cards From the Same Pack in Our Listing Names
Beyond the two Charizard cards, our catalogue names several more cards from the pack. Each is offered as a PSA 10 back order, sourced to order, and each product page shows the current terms. Card names and numbers are as in the listing names; we state nothing about their art or text.
| Listing name (as we name it) | Number | Our price |
|---|---|---|
| PSA10 M Venusaur EX [20th 002/072] | 002/072 | PSA 10 back order at ¥30,590 (~$199) |
| PSA10 Pikachu [XY-20th 018/072] | 018/072 | PSA 10 back order at ¥107,069 (~$695) |
| PSA10 Zapdos [XY-20th 020/072] | 020/072 | PSA 10 back order at ¥94,160 (~$611) |
| PSA10 Gengar [XY-20th 026/072] | 026/072 | PSA 10 back order at ¥96,086 (~$624) |
| PSA10 M Blastoise EX [20th 074/072] (“Starter Pack Blastoise ver.”) | 074/072 | PSA 10 back order at ¥50,485 (~$328) |
Set side by side with the Charizard cards, the table shows that our back-order prices for this pack range widely by card: the Charizard EX at 010/072 sits at the low end of the cards named here and the M Charizard EX at 011/072 at the high end. We give no reason for the spread; none is in our sources, and these are listing prices rather than sales.
Which to Buy
We list no sealed XY-20th pack, and the official details of the pack are not in our sources. That leaves three routes, depending on what you want.
| You want | Route | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The Charizard EX printed XY-20th 010/072 | PSA 10 back order | A named number, sourced to order |
| The M Charizard EX printed XY-20th 011/072 | PSA 10 back order | A named number, sourced to order |
| A sealed Japanese product that names Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise | Special Deck Set ex | A sealed product whose name carries Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise, the three Pokemon our listing names show for the pack |
The Special Deck Set ex is a different product. We link it only because its name carries the same three Pokemon; its contents are not in our sources. If a cheaper starting point is what you want, the sealed MEGA Start Deck 100 Battle Collection is currently listed at ¥1,097 (~$7), and our Start Deck 100 Battle Collection guide explains it.
What Our Sources Do Not Say
Buyers ask several questions about this pack that the sources we hold do not answer. They are listed here so that the gaps are visible.
| Question | Status in our sources |
|---|---|
| Official product name in Japanese | Not in our sources; only our English listing name is known |
| Release date of the pack | Not in our sources |
| Official price of the pack | Not in our sources |
| Number of decks and cards in the pack | Not in our sources |
| Accessories included | Not in our sources |
| Illustrators of the two Charizard cards | Not in our sources |
| HP, attacks and card text of both cards | Not in our sources |
| Rarity of either card | Not in our listing names |
| Whether the pack was sold sealed in decks or as loose cards | Not in our sources |
If one of these answers matters to a purchase, the official card database and the slab photo on the product page are the places to confirm it. We do not fill the gaps from memory, and neither should a buyer who is paying a collector’s price.
Official Starter Products for Context
The official starter products below are a different group from the XY-20th pack. They are listed because they show how Japanese starter products are generally built; the XY-20th pack is not among the official starter-product facts we hold. In each product below the decks are fixed, and the only random element is the promo pack in Starter Set ex.
| Official product | Release | Official price | Decks | Featured Pokemon |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ファミリーポケモンカードゲーム (Sun & Moon) | Friday, March 15, 2019 | ¥1,980 plus tax | 3 × 60 cards, fixed | Charizard GX deck, Raichu GX deck, Mewtwo GX deck |
| Sword & Shield Family Pokemon Card Game | Friday, July 9, 2021 | ¥2,398 | 3 × 60 cards, fixed | Cinderace V, Pikachu V, Tyranitar V decks |
| スターターセットex | Friday, January 20, 2023 | ¥1,800 each | 1 × 60 cards each; promo pack random | Sprigatito and Lucario ex; Fuecoco and Ampharos ex; Quaxly and Mimikyu ex |
| バトルアカデミー | Friday, March 8, 2024 | ¥3,290 | 4 × 60 cards, fixed | Pikachu ex, Sprigatito ex, Greninja ex, Lucario ex |
| スターターセットMEGA | Friday, September 5, 2025 | ¥1,800 each | 1 × 60 cards each, fixed | Mega Gengar ex; Mega Diancie ex |
The earliest of these, the 2019 family set, included a Charizard GX deck, so a Charizard deck in a Japanese starter product has an official precedent. Whether Charizard was the lead Pokemon of the XY-20th pack is not in our sources. For the modern line, see the sibling guide to the Starter Set MEGA Mega Gengar ex and Haunter 022/021 and our Starter Set ex comparison guide.
A Modern Mega Charizard Card, for Contrast
The official database page for メガリザードンYex (MEGA Charizard Y ex) 766/742 from MEGA Start Deck 100 Battle Collection shows these values.
| Field | Official database value |
|---|---|
| Number and set | 766/742, set code MC |
| HP | 360 |
| Stage | Stage 2 |
| Attack | プロージョンY: discard 3 Energy, 280 damage to 1 Pokemon (rendering) |
| Knock-out rule | Taking it as a knock-out gives 3 Prize cards |
| Illustrator | aky CG Works |
This is a different card from either XY-20th Charizard. The three-Prize rule applies to this card as the official page describes it; we do not say how the XY-era EX cards count in comparison, because that is not in our sources. The number 766/742 sits above the 742 base count, and the official database confirms it exists. Third-party sites label it MUR; the official database page prints no rarity.
Charizard Cards We List, by Product
For a wider view, these are the Charizard cards in our catalogue from starter-type products and from other products, each with its own status. The rarity letters are as our listing names give them.

| PSA10 Charizard EX [XY-20th 010/072] | Pokemon Card Game Starter Pack | PSA 10 back order at ¥28,046 (~$182) |

| PSA10 Charizard VMAX SSR [S4a 308/190] | High Class Pack “Shiny Star V” | Currently listed at ¥44,913 (~$292) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) |
The table separates two kinds of listing. The three starter-product cards are back orders; the three High Class Pack cards are physical PSA 10 listings. The prices are not a ranking of value, only a record of what each page shows.
Where Starter Products Go Next
On October 29, 2026 fan sites reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「バトルスタートデッキ」 (working English translation: Battle Start Deck; no official English name exists), which collectors read as a possible beginner-deck product; nothing is announced. Our Battle Start Deck trademark guide explains what is confirmed and what is not, and the round-up of the four marks and the ex★ logo sets it beside the other names.
