The Pokémon Starter Set ex Sprigatito & Meowscarada ex is the Grass deck in the Japanese ポケモンカードゲーム MEGA スターターセットex line, listed on the official page as ニャオハ&マスカーニャex. It is one of three fixed 60-card decks that went on sale on Friday, July 31, 2026, each at an official price of ¥1,800. This guide looks at the Grass deck itself, walks through what a first game looks like under the official rules, and explains what you can and cannot change when you want to move from a starter deck to a deck of your own.
It stays close to the official pokemon-card.com page. The full 60-card list is not reproduced here; the official page lists the featured cards, and those are the cards named below. Where the manufacturer does not state something, we say so.
We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD and are approximate.
- The Grass deck: the featured cards are マスカーニャex (attack マジカルバレット, 120), オリーヴァ, a full-art ニャオハ and デリバード, in a fixed 60-card deck with a coin, a playmat and guides.
- Not the 2023 Sprigatito deck: the January 2023 Starter Set ex paired ニャオハ with ルカリオex. This box pairs it with マスカーニャex and is a different product.
- Our listing: the Starter Set ex Sprigatito & Meowscarada ex is currently listed at ¥1,796 (~$12).
What the Product Is
The official name is ポケモンカードゲーム MEGA スターターセットex イーブイex / ゾロア&ゾロアークex / ニャオハ&マスカーニャex. Three boxes share one product page on pokemon-card.com, and each box holds one fixed deck. Our listing calls the Grass box “Starter Set ex Sprigatito & Meowscarada ex”. The table summarises what the official page states for it.
| Item | What the official page states |
|---|---|
| Release | Friday, July 31, 2026 |
| Official price | ¥1,800 each (tax included) |
| Deck | 1 × 60 cards, fixed |
| Type | 草 (Grass) |
| In the box | Paper damage-counter sheet, one Pokémon coin, one playmat, one player’s guide, one set of play instructions |
| Reprints | The line includes some reprinted cards (not itemised) |
| Code card | Not listed on the page |
A phrase on the page matters for buying: 「対戦には2つ以上のデッキが必要です。」, meaning a match needs two or more decks. One box is a complete deck, not a complete game.

The Sprigatito & Meowscarada ex Deck
The official page names four featured cards or Pokémon for the Grass deck:
- マスカーニャex, the deck’s headline Pokémon ex, a Grass type whose attack マジカルバレット does 120 damage;
- オリーヴァ, the second Pokémon line;
- ニャオハ, the basic Pokémon that leads to マスカーニャex, shown in a full-art illustration (フルイラスト);
- デリバード, which the page lists in all three decks of the line.
The deck is built from the logic the official rules require: an evolved Pokémon needs its pre-evolution on the field first, so the basic ニャオハ sits in the deck beside マスカーニャex. We do not state the middle step of the evolution line or the number of copies of each card, because the official page does not publish them.
The earlier ニャオハ product is a different box. The Starter Set ex of Friday, January 20, 2023 paired ニャオハ with ルカリオex and listed a one-card promo pack; the 2026 box pairs it with マスカーニャex and lists no promo pack. If you see either name in a search, check the release date before you buy. Our Starter Set ex comparison guide places both boxes in the longer history of the line.
マジカルバレット 120 is a single-attack figure from the official page, rendered here as “Magical Bullet, 120” (rendering). The page does not publish the full card text in the summary, so we do not describe the attack’s cost or any side effect.
What a First Game Looks Like
One reason people buy a Starter Set ex is that the deck, the playmat and the instructions arrive together. The rules below come from the official how-to-play page (pokemon-card.com/howtoplay). The table links each rule to what it means with this particular box.
| Official rule | What the page says | What it means with this box |
|---|---|---|
| Deck size | Each player uses one 60-card deck | The box is exactly one legal-size deck |
| Opening hand | Draw seven cards from the top of the deck | You start from the shuffled 60 and draw seven |
| Basic Pokémon | A deck must include at least one basic Pokémon; evolved Pokémon need their pre-evolution | ニャオハ is the basic that leads to マスカーニャex |
| Bench | Up to five Pokémon on the bench | Room for the supporting オリーヴァ and デリバード |
| Prize cards | Six Prize cards; take all six first to win | The goal is the same in every deck |
| Other wins | Opponent has no Pokémon in play, or cannot draw at the start of a turn | Applies to both players equally |
Two practical points follow. First, you need a second deck and a second player, so the Grass box pairs naturally with one of its two siblings. Second, the playmat in the box is a physical aid: it gives you a place for the deck, the Prize cards and the bench, which helps when you are still learning where each card goes. The coin (ポケモンコイン) is included for the coin flips the game uses, and the paper sheet carries damage counters and markers. For a longer walk through turns and attacks, our beginner how-to-play guide goes further than this product guide can.
The page also links the product to events: a ポケモンカードゲーム教室 and a format called デッキそのままバトル. We only name them; the product page does not describe them in detail, and we have no further facts to add.
Who the Grass deck is for
The official はじめての方へ page (pokemon-card.com/about) points a player who wants 「とにかく早くバトルの体験がしたい」 (to experience a battle as quickly as possible) to a constructed deck of 60 cards, and points a player who mainly wants to collect cards to booster packs with a few random cards. This box is the first kind of product. It suits a player who already likes the Sprigatito line and wants a deck that works as soon as it is opened, and it suits a gift for a friend who will play at home, as long as a second deck is available for the match. It suits less well a collector who wants a surprise, since nothing in the box is random.
Grass Deck Versus the Other Two
All three decks in the MEGA line cost the same and come with the same accessories. The choice is about the Pokémon you want to play.
| Deck | Type | Headline ex | Supporting cast named by the page |
|---|---|---|---|

The Starter Set ex Zorua & Zoroark ex is currently listed at ¥1,584 (~$10), and our Zorua & Zoroark ex contents guide covers that deck in the same way as this one. The Eevee ex box has no listed price on October 29, 2026, so sourcing requests for it go through Quick Order. Nothing on the official page ranks one of the three decks above another, and we do not rank them.
From Starter Deck to Your Own Deck
A starter deck is a base, and the official rules tell you how far you can change it. These are the limits to know before you swap cards in or out:
- Four copies per name. A deck may hold at most four cards with the same name. The page clarifies that ピカチュウ and ピカチュウex count as different names, so ニャオハ and マスカーニャex do not share a count either.
- Basic Energy is unlimited. Basic Energy cards are the exception to the four-copy limit.
- Keep a basic Pokémon. At least one basic Pokémon is required, and every evolved Pokémon needs its pre-evolution available.
- Stay at 60. The deck is always 60 cards, so every card you add pushes another out.
For building from scratch, the official page offers a beginner guideline of 15 Energy and about 30 Trainers, which leaves roughly 15 Pokémon. We present it as the manufacturer’s starting figure, not a requirement, and we make no claim about how closely the Grass deck follows it; the category counts for this line are not published.
The 2023 Starter Set ex promo pack was described on its page as a card that could be swapped into the 60-card deck for customising. The MEGA page lists no promo pack, so that first customisation step is not part of this box. Customising therefore starts with cards from other products, and the singles on our card list hub are one place to look.
Standard format check
For organised play in the Standard format, the official regulation page allows cards with the marks H, I and J, in effect from Friday, January 23, 2026. The official card database shows the regulation mark only as a set-logo image, so we do not state which letter these decks carry. No further change to the Standard marks has been announced on the official site as of October 29, 2026. If tournament legality matters, check the mark printed on each card.
Other Japanese Routes Into the Game
The Starter Set ex is not the only entry product. The three nearest alternatives differ in price, deck count and whether the contents are random.
| Product | Release | Official price | Decks | Contents |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| MEGA スターターセットex | Fri, Jul 31, 2026 | ¥1,800 each | 1 × 60 | Fixed |
| MEGA スタートデッキ100 バトルコレクション | Fri, Dec 19, 2025 | ¥891 | 1 × 60 | Random, 100 kinds, 2 or more Pokémon ex |
| バトルアカデミー | Fri, Mar 8, 2024 | ¥3,290 | 4 × 60 | Fixed (ピカチュウex, ニャオハex, ゲッコウガex, ルカリオex) |
If you want to hand a friend a deck without spending much, the random Start Deck 100 line is the cheaper official route. The MEGA Start Deck 100 Battle Collection is currently listed at ¥1,097 (~$7); our Start Deck 100 Battle Collection guide explains it. The Start Deck lists only the counter sheet; the Starter Set ex adds the coin, playmat and guides. The official pages give no reason for the price difference.
The Start Deck 100 line also carries cards numbered beyond its 742-card base list. One example in the official database is イーブイ 755/742 (rendering of the card text: a basic Pokémon with 50 HP, the ability ブーストしんか, and an attack とつげき that does 30 damage and 10 to itself; illustrator Makura Tami). Whether a given deck contains such a card is not stated on the official page.

A Note on the Battle Start Deck Report
On October 29, 2026 fan sites reported a Japanese trademark filing for 「バトルスタートデッキ」, which some collectors read as a possible beginner-deck product; nothing is announced. Our Battle Start Deck (working English translation of バトルスタートデッキ; no official English name exists) trademark guide explains what is confirmed and what is not, and the ex★ 2027 round-up covers the other three names reported the same day.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is in the Starter Set ex Sprigatito & Meowscarada ex?
One fixed 60-card Grass deck whose featured cards are マスカーニャex, オリーヴァ, a full-art ニャオハ and デリバード, plus a paper damage-counter sheet, one coin, one playmat, a player’s guide and play instructions. The full 60-card list is not reproduced here.
Can I play with just one Starter Set ex deck?
The deck is complete, but the official page states that a match needs two or more decks, so a second player needs a deck of their own.
Is this the same Sprigatito deck as the 2023 Starter Set ex?
No. The January 20, 2023 box paired ニャオハ with ルカリオex and included a random one-card promo pack. The July 31, 2026 box pairs it with マスカーニャex and lists no promo pack.
How many cards of one name can I add when I customise the deck?
A deck may hold up to four cards with the same name, and basic Energy cards are the exception, with no limit. The deck must stay at 60 cards and contain at least one basic Pokémon.
Does the Grass deck come with a code card?
The official product page does not list a code card or an online deck. Treat it as not listed, not as a statement that none exists.
What is the official price of the Starter Set ex?
The official price is 1,800 yen for each of the three decks in the MEGA line, which went on sale in Japan on Friday, July 31, 2026.
