The Allister Secret Rare: S8b #256 (VMAX Climax)
Allister’s Japanese name is オニオン (Onion), and the card is classified as a Trainer – Supporter. This is his most recent Japanese print: card 256, Secret Rare, in the high-class pack VMAX Climax (set code S8b), with artwork credited to Jiro Sasumo.
This is the more recent of the two verified Secret Rare tier prints and the one associated with our currently listed box. It is not the same card as the earlier S3a Secret Rare covered next — the two are separated by 17 months, a different set, and a different illustrator.
The Earlier Prints: Allister in S3a Legendary Heartbeat
Allister first appeared over a year earlier, in S3a Legendary Heartbeat (伝説の鼓動), released in Japan on 10 July 2020. That set carries two separate Allister prints at two different rarity tiers:
Card 71 is the standard Uncommon print, illustrated by take. Card 84 is a Secret Rare version of the same card, illustrated separately by Sanosuke Sakuma. S3a Legendary Heartbeat has a 76-card main run followed by higher-numbered secret cards, placing the Uncommon at its regular numbered slot and the Secret Rare above the main run.
S3a card 84 and S8b card 256 are both labelled Secret Rare, but they are different cards from different sets, illustrated by different artists, 17 months apart. Check the set code printed on the card — S3a or S8b — before assuming which Secret Rare you’re looking at.
VMAX Climax (S8b): The Set Behind the Anchor Print
Allister’s S8b print comes from the high-class pack officially titled ハイクラスパック「VMAXクライマックス「 (High Class Pack “VMAX Climax”), set code S8b, released in Japan on 3 December 2021. Its 184-card main run is followed by higher-numbered Character Rare, Character Super Rare, Secret Rare and Ultra Rare cards. Allister’s Secret Rare is card 256/184.
