How many Mega Pokemon cards are there? The honest answer depends on whether you mean English sets, Japanese sets or the Mega ex cards inside them, and no single official total covers all three. This guide gives the official English counts as printed on pokemon.com, then explains how to read the Japanese sets, which print their own numbering.
We do not add the sets into one grand total, because the English pages print “over N” counts and the Japanese counts belong on each set’s card list page. What follows is every figure the official pages give, with the source named, plus a way to read the numbers printed on the cards.
- The table in this guide covers seven English Mega Evolution sets on pokemon.com (30th Celebration, also tagged Mega Evolution Series, is counted separately), ranging from “over 115” (Pitch Black) to “over 290” (Ascended Heroes).
- The number after the slash on a Japanese card is not the full set count, because higher rarities carry numbers above it.
- For the Japanese MEGA sets, read the card list page for each set, starting from the MEGA card list hub. The M6 Storm Emeralda box has a Sealed option currently listed at ¥11,165 (~$72).
Official English Counts
Each English set page on pokemon.com prints a minimum count. The table repeats those figures exactly, with the release date the official pages give.
| English set | English release | Cards (official) |
|---|---|---|
| Mega Evolution | September 26, 2025 | Over 180 |
| Phantasmal Flames | November 14, 2025 | Over 120 |
| Ascended Heroes | January 30, 2026 | Over 290 |
| Perfect Order | March 27, 2026 (the set page prints no date) | Over 120 |
| Chaos Rising | May 22, 2026 | Over 120 |
| Pitch Black | July 17, 2026 | Over 115 |
| Delta Reign | November 6, 2026 | Over 135 |
A media guide (game3.ca) gives exact numbers for six of these sets: Mega Evolution 188, Phantasmal Flames 130, Ascended Heroes 295, Perfect Order 124, Chaos Rising 122 and Pitch Black 120. Those figures come from that guide and not from pokemon.com, so they are shown here only as a media report. Delta Reign is scheduled for November 6, 2026, and the official page gives only “over 135” for it.
Adding the official minimums would give only a lower bound, so this guide does not present a combined total.

The Japanese MEGA Sets
Japanese MEGA-era sets carry a set code such as M2 or M6a. The table lists the sets that appear in our listings, with the name as our product pages print it. Counts are left to each set’s card list page.
| Set code | Set name (as we list it) | Where to read the count |
|---|---|---|
| M1L | Mega Brave | see the M6a card list or the MEGA card list hub |
| M1S | Mega Symphonia | see the M6a card list or the MEGA card list hub |
| M2 | Inferno X | M2 card list |
| M2a | High Class Pack “MEGA Dream ex” | M2a card list |
| M3 | Munikis Zero (Nihil Zero) | see the M6a card list or the MEGA card list hub |
| M4 | Ninja Spinner | see the M6a card list or the MEGA card list hub |
| M5 | Abyss Eye | M5 card list |
| M6 | Storm Emeralda | see the M6a card list or the MEGA card list hub |
| M6a | 30th CELEBRATION | see the M6a card list or the MEGA card list hub |
The MEGA card list hub is the entry point for every set above. For a comparison of the main boxes, see our Mega Series (M1 to M6) box ranking guide, and for the order in which Japanese sets came out, Japanese Pokemon card sets in order.
How to Read the Numbers on the Card
Japanese cards print a number in the form 116/080. The figure after the slash is the set’s base numbering, and it is not a full card count. You can see this on the cards we list, where the top rarities carry numbers above the slash figure.
| Card (as printed) | Set | Number shown |
|---|---|---|
| MEGA Latias ex SR | M1S Mega Symphonia | 079/063 |
| MEGA Charizard X ex MUR | M2 Inferno X | 116/080 |
| MEGA Hawlucha ex MA | M2a MEGA Dream ex | 229/193 |
| Jacinthe SAR | M3 Munikis Zero | 116/080 |
| MEGA Greninja ex MUR | M4 Ninja Spinner | 120/083 |
Because 079 is higher than 063 and 229 is higher than 193, the slash number cannot be read as the total. The rarity codes on these cards are explained in our Japanese Pokemon card rarities guide, and the position of each element on the card is shown in our guide to reading Japanese Pokemon cards.
As graded examples, the PSA 10 MEGA Latias ex SR 079/063 is currently listed at ¥4,700 (~$31), and the PSA 10 MEGA Greninja ex MUR 120/083 is sold out at the time of this update — restock requests go through Quick Order. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD, approximate.

Counting Mega ex Cards Instead of Sets
Some searchers mean the Mega ex Pokémon cards rather than the sets. The official pages cited in this guide print counts per set, not a total of Mega ex cards across the era, so this guide gives no single figure.
What the official English pages do describe is the headline cards of individual sets. The Delta Reign news page names Mega Rayquaza ex as the flagship, alongside Mega Golurk ex, Mega Malamar ex and Mega Golisopod ex, and lists 35 or more special illustration cards. For the Japanese gold-rarity Mega cards, our Mega Evolution chase card guide covers the UR and MUR prints one by one.

The 30th Celebration Count
The English 30th Celebration set page says “over 150 cards”, including 30 Pikachu rare cards, 30 iconic cards from the Classic Collection, more than 20 new illustration rare and special illustration rare cards, and two Futuristic rare cards by YOSHIROTTEN (Mewtwo and Mew). The Japanese M6a expansion is described on the official Japanese site with 30 Pikachu by 30 illustrators and 30 historic cards in special specification. Browse it card by card in the M6a card list.
No Japanese card count is quoted here, so use the card list for the set rather than assuming it matches the English figure. Our 30th Celebration guide has the full picture.
