Two Japanese sets released on the same day in June 2016, both denominated out of 54 cards, and both put their headline Secret Rare at card number 057. One of those cards is M Gardevoir EX. The other is M Steelix EX — and it is the card this guide is built around.
The card is M Steelix EX, No. 057/054, printed as a Secret Rare (SR) in the Japanese expansion pack our site labels Fever-Burst Fighter (爆熱の闘士, internal set code XY11b). A graded, 1st Edition copy of this exact print is currently listed at ¥66,000 (~$415), and this guide covers the card’s full stat line, how its numbering lines up against its release-day siblings, what the set itself is, and how the Japanese print compares to its English counterpart.
This exact print already appears as the headline chase card in our two-set overview of XY11, Cruel Traitor & Fever-Burst Fighter: Best Cards. That article frames M Steelix EX as one half of a two-set story alongside M Gardevoir EX. This guide goes deeper on M Steelix EX alone — full print detail, its Mega Evolution mechanics, and where it sits against its own set’s sibling rarities.
M Steelix EX SR 057/054 is a PSA 10, 1st Edition copy, currently listed at ¥66,000 (~$415). It comes from Fever-Burst Fighter (XY11b), a Japanese expansion pack released 17 June 2016 alongside its twin set Cruel Traitor. The same Fever-Burst Fighter set also produced Volcanion EX SR 055/054 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), whose PSA 10, 1st Edition copy is currently listed at ¥37,399 (~$235).

The Card: M Steelix EX 057/054 SR
M Steelix EX is a Mega Evolution Pokemon evolving from Steelix-EX (the non-Mega form), with a Steel/Fighting dual type — labelled “Metal/Fighting” under Limitless’s type naming — and 240 HP. Its attack is キャニオンアックス (Canyon Axe), costing MCCCC for 160 damage, with the added effect that each of the opponent’s Benched Pokemon takes 10 damage; that bench damage is not affected by Weakness or Resistance. The card carries a Fire Weakness, a Psychic Resistance, and a Retreat Cost of 4. It is illustrated by 5ban Graphics.

The number 057 sits above Fever-Burst Fighter’s own /054 denominator, which is where this set places its Secret Rare. Our own graded copy of this print is a 1st Edition, currently listed at ¥66,000 (~$415), PSA 10.

Our Cruel Traitor & Fever-Burst Fighter best-cards overview also features this print as one of two headline chase cards across XY11’s twin sets. If you want the wider two-set picture, start there; if you want the full detail on M Steelix EX specifically, keep reading here.
Print History: M Steelix EX and Its Release-Day Siblings
The Japanese Fever-Burst Fighter print verified here is the Secret Rare 057/054, released on 17 June 2016. Fever-Burst Fighter also produced Volcanion EX at 055/054, and on the same day its twin set Cruel Traitor placed M Gardevoir EX at the identical number, 057/054.
| Card | Set | Number | Rarity | JP Release |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| M Steelix EX | Fever-Burst Fighter (XY11b) | 057/054 | SR | 17 Jun 2016 |
| Volcanion EX | Fever-Burst Fighter (XY11b) | 055/054 | SR | 17 Jun 2016 |
| M Gardevoir EX | Cruel Traitor (XY11r) | 057/054 | SR | 17 Jun 2016 |
All three cards sit past the /054 denominator that anchors each set’s main numbered run, which is where Fever-Burst Fighter and Cruel Traitor each placed their Secret Rare slots. The shared number 057 between M Steelix EX and M Gardevoir EX is a coincidence of two twin sets designed and numbered together, not a reprint relationship — the two cards are different Pokemon in different sets. See the Volcanion EX SR card guide for the sibling single-card deep dive.
The Set: Fever-Burst Fighter (XY11b)
Fever-Burst Fighter — 爆熱の闘士 in Japanese — is the translation our site uses, following Bulbapedia’s rendering of the title. Limitless’s internal card database labels the same set “Heat Burst Fighter,” and “Explosive Fighter” appears elsewhere on our own site. None of these three is an official Pokemon Company name, because this Japanese set never received a standalone English-language release of its own. Its internal set code is XY11b, which matches the community shorthand “XY11-2” used in our own product titles.
Fever-Burst Fighter released on 17 June 2016, the same day as its twin set Cruel Traitor (冷酷の反逆者, internal code XY11r / community shorthand “XY11-1”), whose own headline card is M Gardevoir EX. Both sets carry the print denominator /054 in their main numbered run, and both extend to a documented total of 58 cards once their secret-rare slots are counted.
We do not currently list a Fever-Burst Fighter or Cruel Traitor booster box; it is a vintage 2016 Japanese release. The graded singles above — M Steelix EX, Volcanion EX, and M Gardevoir EX — are our current route into this set. For a broader look at Japanese Steelix prints beyond this one card, see our Steelix cards guide.
Our anchor copy of M Steelix EX carries a 1st Edition mark on its own product listing. That sits comfortably inside the documented window during which Japanese Pokemon cards carried a 1st Edition stamp, which our own 1st Edition Japanese Pokemon cards guide covers in full — June 2016 falls well within that era.
Where This SR Sits Among Japanese Chase Rarities
Within Fever-Burst Fighter, M Steelix EX’s 057/054 is a Secret Rare — the print sits past the set’s own /054 denominator, in the same elevated numbering band as Volcanion EX (055/054) from the same set and M Gardevoir EX (057/054) from the twin Cruel Traitor set. All three occupy that same beyond-denominator SR band, which is the standard treatment this pair of 2016 sets used for their headline chase cards.
The three graded XY11 Secret Rare listings shown here provide a direct comparison. For a side-by-side treatment of how M Steelix EX and M Gardevoir EX compare as a pair, see our Cruel Traitor & Fever-Burst Fighter best-cards overview.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is M Steelix EX SR 057/054?
It is the Secret Rare print of M Steelix EX, card 057/054 from the Japanese expansion pack our site labels Fever-Burst Fighter (internal set code XY11b), released 17 June 2016. A PSA 10, 1st Edition copy of this print is currently listed at ¥66,000 (~$415).
Is M Steelix EX related to the newer “Mega X ex” cards?
No. M Steelix EX is a 2016 XY-era card from Fever-Burst Fighter. The M-series “Mega X ex” cards released in 2025–26 are a separate, later generation of Mega Evolution cards. They share “Mega” branding language but are not reprints of, or related to, each other.
Why do M Steelix EX and M Gardevoir EX share the number 057?
Fever-Burst Fighter and Cruel Traitor are twin Japanese sets released on the same day, 17 June 2016, both denominated out of 54 cards. Each set placed its own headline Secret Rare past that denominator: M Steelix EX at 057/054 in Fever-Burst Fighter, M Gardevoir EX at 057/054 in Cruel Traitor. The shared number is a coincidence of the two sets’ numbering, not a reprint relationship.
Does M Steelix EX have an English print?
Yes — Steam Siege (STS) carries the card across two treatments: a regular print at #68 and a Full Art print at #109. Steam Siege is the single English set combining the card pools of both Fever-Burst Fighter and Cruel Traitor.
What does the “1st Edition” mark mean on this card?
It confirms the specific print run stamp used on Japanese Pokemon cards during the documented 1st Edition era. Our anchor copy’s listing confirms a 1st Edition mark, and the card’s June 2016 release date sits inside that documented window.
Where can I buy a PSA 10 M Steelix EX from Tokyo?
