Search “Mega Mewtwo ex” and you’ll find plenty of fan renders, wishlists, and the occasional listing that gets the name wrong. What you won’t find, as of this writing, is an actual card. Not in M1L, not in the M2 set that landed exactly ten years to the day after the original Mega Mewtwo debuted in the TCG, not in M2a.
The Mega Mewtwo cards that do exist are the XY-era M Mewtwo-EX — two forms, seven printings, released 2015–17. This guide catalogs all seven, explains why the current MEGA era has skipped Mewtwo entirely, and clears up a mix-up in our own stock listings along the way: one of our priciest Mewtwo cards is not a Mega card at all. Mega Mewtwo ex does not exist in the current MEGA era (as of Aug 12, 2026). The historic Mega Mewtwo is the XY-era M Mewtwo-EX, with 7 printings across 2015–17. Every M Mewtwo-EX Printing: All 7 (XY Era)
M Mewtwo-EX exists in two forms — X and Y — matching the two Mega Evolutions the game gave Mewtwo back in Pokemon X & Y (2013). Both forms debuted together in Japan on 2015-09-26, split across two sister expansion packs, then reappeared in two later compilation products. Seven printings total, cross-checked against Bulbapedia’s card pages and Japanese card-database sites.

Blue Impact and Red Flash were XY-BREAK’s opening pair, released the same day — the English localization, BREAKthrough, followed on 2015-11-04. Jumbo XY-P promo versions of both forms also exist (no set number), so we’ve kept them out of the count of seven.
Identifying X-Form vs Y-Form
The two forms are easy to tell apart once you know the attack names, but easy to mix up if you’re only glancing at artwork.
X-form: 230 HP, attack “Vanishing Strike,” illustrated by 5ban Graphics, first printed in Blue Impact. Y-form: 210 HP, attack “Psychic Infinity,” also 5ban Graphics, first printed in Red Flash. English versions map to BREAKthrough 63/162 (X) and 64/162 (Y), with the X-form also getting a Rare Ultra full-art print at 159/162.
The original X-form full art print (BREAKthrough 63) shipped with a printing error — “Vanising Strike,” missing an h — on its first run, per Bulbapedia’s card notes.
The Reprints: CP4 and THE BEST OF XY
Both forms came back twice more after their 2015 debut, in reprint-focused products rather than new expansion packs.
Premium Champion Pack “EX×M×BREAK” (CP4), released 2016-04-16, reprinted both forms with a mirror-holo finish as part of a broader EX/Mega/BREAK retrospective box. A year later, THE BEST OF XY (2017-04-21, a 171-card set) included the Y-form once more at 043/171, closing out the printing’s run before the XY era ended. We haven’t found a verified image source for that specific print, so it isn’t pictured here.
No Mega Mewtwo ex Exists in the Current MEGA Era
The current MEGA era has now run seven main sets (M1L through M6, including M1S) plus the M2a high-class pack. None of them contain a Mega Mewtwo ex card. We checked the full card list of every set through M6, Bulbapedia’s Mewtwo card index, and Japanese card-database sites — no entry, no announcement, no scheduled print.
That absence has an oddly specific footnote: M2 “Inferno X,” the second main MEGA-era set, released 2025-09-26 — exactly ten years to the day after Blue Impact and Red Flash introduced the original M Mewtwo-EX in 2015. Both dates are separately confirmed against Bulbapedia and Pokemon’s official set pages. We’re not reading intent into that overlap — it’s a coincidence worth noting, not a pattern — but it’s the closest the current era has come to a Mega Mewtwo moment, and it passed without one.
The only Mewtwo the MEGA era has used so far is Rocket’s Mewtwo ex (see below) — a non-Mega ex card that currently carries the franchise’s Mewtwo demand. Whether a Mega version arrives in a future set is genuinely unknown; nothing in the print record points either way, and any prediction beyond that would be speculation.
Careful: Our XY8 UR Is Not a Mega Card
One line in our own catalog is worth flagging directly, because the set code makes it easy to misread: PSA10 Mewtwo EX UR [XY8 065/059], listed at ¥342,990, is from the same Blue Impact set as M Mewtwo-EX — but it is the regular, non-Mega Mewtwo EX, not a Mega form.
Blue Impact contains both card lines under different numbers. The Mega forms are 026/059 (RR) and 063/059 (SR) — card name “M Mewtwo-EX.” The regular Mewtwo EX line sits at 062/059 (SR) and 065/059 (UR) — card name is just “Mewtwo EX,” no “M” prefix. The PSA10 copy we currently list is the 065/059 UR: a genuinely strong Mewtwo card, just not a Mega one.
If you’re specifically hunting the Mega forms from this set, look for 026/059 or 063/059 in the listing title. If the listing says “Mewtwo EX” without the “M” prefix, it’s the standard version pictured above — still XY8, still a strong pull, just a different card line.
Today’s Mewtwo Mainstay: Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex
With no Mega Mewtwo ex in the current era, Rocket’s Mewtwo ex is the card carrying Mewtwo demand through the MEGA period. It debuted in SV10 “Glory of Team Rocket” and has since appeared eight times across four products — RR, SR, SAR, and UR in SV10 itself, an RR reprint and SAR in M2a, a promo in the M-P line, and a print in the MC starter collection.
Our PSA10 stock: the SV10 RR (039/098) lists at ¥11,124 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) (one-of-one stock — when it sells, it’s gone), and the M-P promo (043/M-P) lists at ¥28,955 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) (2 copies currently listed). The promo’s exact distribution channel is unconfirmed — a single secondary listing describes it as a Champions League Yokohama 2026 prize — unverified, so treat it as unofficial background rather than fact.
M2a “MEGA Dream ex” also carries an RR reprint (063/193) and a SAR (237/193) of Rocket’s Mewtwo ex, alongside the Mega Gengar and Mega Gardevoir prints in that same set — sealed M2a booster boxes (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) are the way to pull those two directly.
