OP-05 Booster Box Buying Guide: Awakening of the New Era One Piece Box

OP-05 Booster Box Buying Guide: Awakening of the New Era One Piece Box

OP-05 — Awakening of the New Era — is a One Piece Card Game set featuring Gear 5 Luffy, and its Comic Parallel version of that card remains the set’s top chase card.

Awakening of the New Era released in Japan on August 4, 2023, framed at the time as the game’s first-anniversary set, and reached English shelves four months later on December 8, 2023, as the identical set under the same name and code. Between the two languages it carries 127 card types across Leader, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Super Rare, Secret Rare, and Special Card slots — and a small handful of those slots are the reason collectors keep opening this box three years on.

This guide covers exactly what’s packed into an OP-05 box, which cards are worth watching for, what’s currently listed on the box side and the singles side, and how the Japanese and English versions of this set relate to each other. We ship Japanese sealed product and PSA-graded singles out of Tokyo, so every price below is what’s on our own product pages right now.

Key Takeaway

OP-05 Awakening of the New Era is 127 card types, packed 24 packs to a box at 6 cards per pack. The chase is Monkey D. Luffy (Gear 5 / Nika) OP05-119 in its SEC-SP Comic Parallel treatment, followed by Trafalgar Law OP05-069 SR-SP Manga Rare. Our own listed sealed box right now is the OP-05 Damaged Box, currently listed at ¥61,750 (~$388) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order); graded singles including the PSA10 Luffy Comic Parallel, currently listed at ¥1,439,600 (~$9,054), are listed separately.

What’s in an OP-05 Box

Item Value
Set name Awakening of the New Era — OP-05
Release date (JP) August 4, 2023
Release date (EN) December 8, 2023
Cards per pack 6
Packs per box 24
Official MSRP $4.49 per pack (English print run)

At 24 packs to a box, that official per-pack MSRP works out to roughly $108 for a full box before any secondary-market markup — that’s an English-language MSRP reference point, not a price we sell at, since the regular (non-Damaged) OP-05 box is not currently listed on our site. See the box section below for what is.

The 127 card types split across nine rarity slots:

Rarity Count
Leader 6
Common 45
Uncommon 30
Rare 26
SR Super Rare 10
SEC Secret Rare 2
Special Card 6
DON!! 1
1st Anniversary Special Card 1

That last row is worth flagging on its own: the Oda-illustrated 1st Anniversary Special Card, a signed-style Luffy print, is a distinct card from the Comic Parallel chase covered below — the two are easy to mix up because both are Luffy specials exclusive to this set, but they are not the same card. For the full 127-card checklist, see our OP-05 complete card list, and for the parallel and alt-art versions specifically, our OP-05 parallel and alt-art checklist.

Chase Cards in OP-05

Two cards define why OP-05 boxes are still opened three years after release, plus a handful of secondary names collectors watch for.

Monkey D. Luffy (Gear 5 / Nika) — OP05-119

Monkey D. Luffy OP05-119 SEC Secret Rare Awakening of the New Era official card art
Monkey D. Luffy — OP05-119 — Secret Rare — Awakening of the New Era (official card art)

OP05-119 is the set’s headline pull — a Gear 5 / Nika form Luffy print in the card game, and the top of the OP-05 rarity tier. It exists in two printings we track:

PSA10 Monkey D. Luffy OP05-119 SEC-SP Comic Parallel Awakening of the New Era graded slab

OP05-119 — SEC-SP Comic (Manga) Parallel

PSA10 Monkey D. Luffy OP05-119 SEC-P standard Secret Rare Awakening of the New Era graded slab

OP05-119 — SEC-P (standard Secret Rare)

The SEC-SP Comic Parallel is the manga-art treatment of OP05-119 and the version most collectors mean when they talk about “the OP-05 Luffy.” The SEC-P standard Secret Rare is the same card number in the regular full-art treatment — a different printing, at a very different price point, so it’s worth checking which one a listing describes before buying.

Trafalgar Law — OP05-069

OP05-069 — official card art

PSA10 Trafalgar Law OP05-069 SR-SP Comic Parallel Awakening of the New Era graded slab

OP05-069 — SR-SP Manga (Comic) Parallel

Trafalgar Law’s SR-SP Manga Rare is the set’s second-tier chase, sitting one rarity level below the Secret Rare Luffy prints. A PSA10 example is currently listed at ¥214,052 (~$1,346).

A few more names round out the set’s watch list. Eustass “Captain” Kid and Enel are linked below; for any of the others not linked, sourcing requests go through our Quick Order page (no restock timing to report):

Card Rarity
Eustass “Captain” Kid SR-SP Manga Rare — currently listed at ¥157,884 (~$993)
Nami R-SP
Enel SR-SP — currently listed at ¥25,110 (~$158)
Yamato SEC-SP
Kaido SR-SP

Enel is also one of OP-05’s six Leader cards — see our dedicated Enel One Piece cards guide for his other printings across the game. For a full rundown of how these rarity tiers are distributed through the set, our own OP-05 best-cards guide covers the set from that angle rather than the box-buying angle this article focuses on.

Regular Box vs Damaged Box on Our Site

We list two ways to buy OP-05 sealed product when both are available: a regular sealed box and a Damaged Box. A Damaged Box is the same factory-sealed product inside — the packs themselves are untouched — but the outer box or shrink has cosmetic damage (a dent, a torn corner, a crushed edge), so it’s priced below a box in pristine outer condition.

OP-05 Awakening of the New Era Japanese Booster Box — Damaged Box currently listed at ¥61,750 (~$388) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order)

Right now the Damaged Box is the only OP-05 sealed listing on our site, which makes it the practical way to open this set today. For how Damaged Box pricing on OP-05 compares with other One Piece sets listed the same way, see our One Piece Damaged Box lineup guide.

Japanese vs English Version of This Set

OP-05 is unusual among the sets we cover in this series because there is no separate “Japanese-only” version to compare against an English counterpart — Awakening of the New Era is the same set, under the same name and code, in both languages. Japan received it first on August 4, 2023; the English print run followed on December 8, 2023, roughly four months later.

That timing gap is the main practical difference for buyers: importing the Japanese print means access to the set, its Leaders, and its Secret Rares months before the English release reaches shelves. The card pool itself — card numbers, rarities, and the chase list above — is identical between the two languages, since OP-05 was designed and released as one international set rather than a Japan-exclusive high-class pack with its own separate English adaptation.
