Solgaleo and Lunala started as two separate cards in two separate boxes — one legend per Sun, one per Moon — and it took nearly three years for the Pokemon TCG to finally put them on the same piece of cardboard. When it happened, the result became one of the recognizable Tag Team GX pairings from the Sun & Moon block: a full-art secret rare pulled straight from Dream League.
This guide traces both Pokemon through their Japanese card history — the December 2016 solo debuts, the 2019 Tag Team GX pairing in SM11b “Dream League,” and what we could and couldn’t confirm about later mechanics. We currently list one of the Dream League printings as a graded PSA 10 single.
We currently list a PSA 10 Solgaleo & Lunala GX SA (063/049, Secret Rare) from SM11b Dream League at ¥93,936. It’s listed as a graded PSA 10 single — availability changes as it sells.
Card numbers, sets, and dates below are sourced from Bulbapedia and limitlesstcg as cited throughout. Where a detail couldn’t be confirmed against a primary source, we’ve said so rather than guessing.

The Sun & Moon Story Behind the Cards
Solgaleo and Lunala are the version-exclusive Legendary Pokemon of Pokemon Sun and Moon (2016). In the games, the player’s companion Pokemon — “Nebby” — evolves into Solgaleo in the Sun version or Lunala in the Moon version late in the story, at an altar where the player and Lillie play the Sun Flute and Moon Flute together. The transformed Legendary then opens a path into Ultra Space, which the story uses to rescue Lusamine and Guzma.
On the card side, the Sun & Moon TCG block (2017 onward) introduced Pokemon-GX: cards with a powerful GX attack usable once per game, and a knockout on a GX Pokemon gives the opponent two Prize cards instead of one. Solgaleo and Lunala each got a solo GX card before the block introduced Tag Team GX — cards pairing two or three Pokemon that share a type, with higher HP and a three-Prize knockout. Solgaleo & Lunala GX is one of those Tag Team GX cards; for the full lineup of that mechanic, see our Tag Team GX value guide.
2016: Solgaleo GX and Lunala GX Debut Solo
Before they shared a card, Solgaleo and Lunala each launched their own GX card in the same release — Collection Sun (SM1S) and Collection Moon (SM1M), both released December 9, 2016.
Solgaleo GX (040/060) is a Metal-type card at HP 250, a Double Rare in limitlesstcg’s rarity notation. Its English structural counterpart is Solgaleo-GX from the base Sun & Moon set, #89/149. Lunala GX (028/060) mirrors it as a Psychic-type card, also HP 250 and Double Rare, with Lunala-GX from base Sun & Moon, #66/149, as its English counterpart.
Both cards were reprinted in later sets on both sides of the Pacific — the English versions resurfaced as alternate-art versions numbered past the set count (143/149 and 155/149) and in GX Battle Boost, and the regular (non-GX) Solgaleo evolution line has appeared in several further sets. We haven’t cross-checked the Japanese set names and numbers for every one of those later reprints, so we’re not listing them here as confirmed facts.
2019: The Tag Team GX Arrives in Dream League
Nearly three years after their solo debuts, Solgaleo and Lunala were paired into a single Tag Team GX card in SM11b “Dream League,” released August 2, 2019. The set uses Japan’s standard numbering split — regular cards run 001–049, and the set’s secret-rare-tier cards continue past that denominator into the 050s, 060s, and 070s, which is why a card numbered 063/049 or 070/049 isn’t a misprint.
The standard version, Solgaleo & Lunala GX (020/049), is a Double Rare (RR) — the card you’d expect to open straight from a Dream League booster pack. It’s a Psychic-type card at HP 270, well above either solo GX’s HP 250, reflecting the Tag Team GX HP bump. Its English structural counterpart is Solgaleo & Lunala-GX from Cosmic Eclipse, #75/236, an Ultra Rare.
The version in the set’s chase slot is the alternate art at 063/049, listed by limitlesstcg as a Secret Rare, full-art treatment, illustrated by Hideki Ishikawa (romanized spelling per Bulbapedia; we haven’t confirmed the Japanese kanji rendering of the illustrator’s name). Same stats — Psychic type, HP 270 — but in the special-art frame the set’s chase slot uses. English collectors know it as Solgaleo & Lunala-GX, Cosmic Eclipse #216/236, a Full Art Ultra Rare.
This is the printing we stock as a PSA 10 graded single:
It’s listed as a graded PSA 10 single — availability changes as it sells, and we source another when we can. If you’d rather chase your own copy from sealed product, our SM11b Dream League pull rates guide covers how often the set’s top cards actually show up per box.
The Rainbow-Rare Version
Dream League has a third Solgaleo & Lunala GX printing above the SA/SR: 070/049, listed by Bulbapedia as the set’s equivalent of a Rare Rainbow (HR) treatment. Its English structural counterpart is Solgaleo & Lunala-GX, Cosmic Eclipse #254/236 — the Rainbow Rare slot in the same English set the SA/SR maps to.
We don’t yet have a verified image of this printing. It’s a confirmed card in the checklist; we just don’t have a clean picture to show you yet.
After GX: Checking for V, VSTAR, and ex
GX as a card mechanic ended with the Sun & Moon block, and the games moved on to Sword & Shield (V/VSTAR) and then Scarlet & Violet (ex). We specifically checked whether Solgaleo or Lunala — solo or as a pair — picked up a V, VSTAR, or ex card in either of those later mechanics.
Across the Bulbapedia card indexes for both Pokemon, we didn’t find a Solgaleo V, Solgaleo VSTAR, Solgaleo ex, Lunala V, Lunala VSTAR, Lunala ex, or a Solgaleo & Lunala ex Tag Team-style card. That’s not a confirmed statement that none of these exist anywhere — it means nothing turned up in the two index pages we checked, and we haven’t cross-referenced additional databases yet. As it stands, the GX era covered above is the complete Solgaleo & Lunala card history we can verify.

What is Solgaleo & Lunala GX?
It’s a Tag Team GX card — a mechanic that pairs two Pokemon sharing a type onto one card with higher HP and a three-Prize knockout. Is there a Solgaleo V, VSTAR, or ex card?
