Terastal Festival vs VSTAR Universe: Box Guide

Full card list: VSTAR Universe card list → every card by number with rarity, individual card pages and in-stock PSA 10 prices.

Two years and four days apart, both Pokemon high-class packs, both sitting well above their launch prices — and one of them still comes with a shot at a card reported to be pullable no other way.

Terastal Festival ex (SV8a, December 2024) and VSTAR Universe (s12a, December 2022) get compared a lot, and not just because they share a release month two years apart. VSTAR Universe closed out the Sword & Shield era with a secret-rare pool wide enough to include a “god pack” mechanic; Terastal Festival ex opened up the Scarlet & Violet era’s Eeveelution-and-Tera-form lane with a tighter, more focused chase list. Neither box is close to its original MSRP today, and right now they don’t cost the same either.

This guide lines up what’s actually inside each box, what the chase cards are worth, and what’s driving the current price gap between them — using our own live catalog and set-facts research as the source for every number below.

Key Takeaway

VSTAR Universe (s12a) is the wider set — 262 total cards, a 90-card secret-rare tier, and an unofficial “god pack” chance at Pikachu AR #205. Terastal Festival ex (SV8a) is the newer, tighter set — 237 total cards built around Eeveelution and Tera-form ex chases. Terastal Festival ex is currently listed at ¥19,032; VSTAR Universe is currently listed at ¥30,264 — roughly 1.6x the price right now.

Sealed box prices are our current live catalog figures as of August 13, 2026. Chase-card figures without a direct product link are drawn from our own dated set-facts articles (snapshot date noted with each figure) rather than a live listing, and USD conversions in those cases carry over the source’s own rate rather than our stated ¥163/USD (July 2026) basis. Terastal Festival ex: The Eeveelution & Tera-Form Showcase

Terastal Festival ex (SV8a) released in Japan on December 6, 2024, as a Scarlet & Violet-era High Class Pack with a deliberately narrow focus compared to a lot of the sets around it. Where several recent high-class packs try to cover the whole Pokedex, SV8a picks two themes and builds the entire secret-rare tier around them: the eight Eeveelutions and Terastallized (Tera-form) ex Pokemon, headlined by Terapagos ex.

The main set runs 187 cards, with a 50-card secret-rare tier (#188–#237) bringing the set total to 237. The set carries over the Master Ball and Monster Ball mirror-holo structure used across the current era — both mirror types appear across the Eeveelution lineup here as well as the SAR chases.

Among the set’s chases, the ones our own research has priced are: Eevee ex SAR #224/187, Leafeon ex SAR #200/187, Dragapult ex SAR #221/187, and a Terapagos ex SAR (card number not specified in our sources) — alongside a wider field of Eeveelution SAR chases across the set, including Umbreon ex SAR #217/187. We currently carry graded copies of two of these — PSA 10 Leafeon ex SAR, currently listed at ¥21,255 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), and PSA 10 Eevee ex SAR, currently listed at ¥14,791 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). Both are graded singles — one-of-one stock, so once a listing sells, it’s gone. Elsewhere in the mirror-holo tier, we also currently list a PSA 10 Umbreon Monster Ball Mirror #092/187, currently listed at ¥12,525 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order).

Sealed, our own catalog lists the box currently at ¥19,032. For the full rarity breakdown and complete chase-card rundown, see our standalone Terastal Festival ex pull rates and best cards guide.

VSTAR Universe: The SwSh Finale With a God Pack

VSTAR Universe (s12a) released in Japan on December 2, 2022, closing out the Sword & Shield era as its final High Class Pack. Where Terastal Festival ex narrows its focus to two themes, VSTAR Universe goes wide: a 172-card main set followed by a 90-card secret-rare tier — 25 Pokemon SAR, 10 Supporter SAR, 37 AR, 14 SR, and 4 UR — for a 262-card total. The four URs (Origin Forme Dialga, Origin Forme Palkia, Giratina, and Arceus) are built to form a connected panorama across the set.

Community-reported box breakdowns put a typical box at around 15 hits — roughly 1 Pokemon SAR, 1 SR, 3 AR, 1 Radiant, 3 RRR, and 6 RR — though none of this is officially published. On top of that reported floor, VSTAR Universe carries a community-reported (unofficial, not confirmed by Pokemon Co.) “god pack” mechanic at roughly a 1% chance per box — either a 9-card Art Rare pack, which is reported as the only way to pull Pikachu AR #205, or a 5-SAR/5-AR pack.

Arceus VSTAR UR 262 VSTAR Universe s12a Japanese card

Arceus VSTAR UR #262 — VSTAR Universe

Pikachu AR #205 is the set’s signature chase specifically because of the god-pack gate — our own set-facts article has quoted it at roughly ¥21,000 in one snapshot and roughly ¥27,000 in a later one, so treat either figure as a point-in-time read rather than a fixed price. Giratina VSTAR UR #261 and Arceus VSTAR UR #262 round out the panorama UR chases. We currently carry a graded single from the broader SAR tier: PSA 10 Mewtwo VSTAR SAR #221/172, currently listed at ¥34,760, one-of-one stock like any other graded single.

Sealed, our own catalog lists the box currently at ¥30,264. For the full rarity breakdown and complete chase-card rundown, see our standalone VSTAR Universe pull rates and best cards guide.

Chase Card Face-Off

Side by side, the two sets’ chase pools reflect their different designs — VSTAR Universe’s god-pack-gated Pikachu AR sits apart from everything else in either set, while Terastal Festival ex’s chases cluster more tightly around graded mid-five-figure territory.

Set Card Tier Price
VSTAR Universe Mewtwo VSTAR SAR #221/172 SAR PSA 10, ¥34,760 (current)
VSTAR Universe Pikachu AR #205 (god pack) AR ~¥21,000–¥27,000 (source snapshots)
Terastal Festival ex Leafeon ex SAR #200/187 SAR PSA 10, ¥21,255 (current)
Terastal Festival ex Eevee ex SAR #224/187 SAR PSA 10, ¥14,791 (current)
Terastal Festival ex Umbreon Monster Ball Mirror #092/187 Mirror PSA 10, ¥12,525 (current)
VSTAR Universe Giratina VSTAR UR #261 UR Community-reported, not currently listed by us

Two things stand out. First, VSTAR Universe’s top-priced graded single we currently list (Mewtwo VSTAR SAR at ¥34,760) already outranks anything we currently list from Terastal Festival ex. Second, VSTAR Universe’s real ceiling isn’t a card you can shop for directly — Pikachu AR #205 only comes out of a roughly 1-in-100-box god pack, which is a structurally different kind of chase than Terastal Festival ex’s more evenly reachable SAR pool.

Box Economics: Why the Price Gap Exists

VSTAR Universe launched at a confirmed ¥5,500 MSRP; Terastal Festival ex’s MSRP wasn’t confirmed in our research, so we can’t calculate a clean multiple for it the way we can for s12a.

Metric Terastal Festival ex (SV8a) VSTAR Universe (s12a)
MSRP Not confirmed ¥5,500
Currently listed (our catalog) ¥19,032 ¥30,264
Approx. multiple of MSRP Not calculable (MSRP unconfirmed) ~5.5x

VSTAR Universe’s sealed price has itself moved over time — our set-facts article cites ¥22,800 on a SNKRDUNK-basis snapshot dated March 2026, versus ¥30,990 in a same-article measurement dated August 12, 2026, and our own live catalog lists it at ¥30,264 as of August 13, 2026. That’s roughly a 33–36% climb from the March figure to today, which tracks with the set closing out an era that keeps getting more collector attention two-plus years after release.

Terastal Festival ex, by contrast, is barely eight months old and already trading well above whatever its original MSRP was — our live catalog price of ¥19,032 sits close to the ¥20,592 sealed-box figure noted in our own research one day earlier (August 12, 2026), which suggests the set’s price is settling rather than swinging the way VSTAR Universe’s has. The god-pack mechanic on VSTAR Universe’s side is also worth weighing into the price gap: a structural chance at a card unavailable any other way is a different kind of demand driver than a set built around a fixed, reachable SAR pool.

Which Box Should You Buy?

Working from everything above, here’s how we’d frame the decision:

  • Want a shot at a card you can’t pull from a normal pack? VSTAR Universe’s god pack is the reason — Pikachu AR #205 is reported to appear only in that roughly 1-in-100-box mechanic, official or not.
  • Prefer a tighter, more focused theme? Terastal Festival ex’s Eeveelution-and-Tera-form focus is a narrower, more collectible-feeling build than VSTAR Universe’s broader Pokedex-style spread.
  • Buying by budget right now? Terastal Festival ex is currently listed at ¥19,032, well below VSTAR Universe’s current listing of ¥30,264.
  • Want a specific single instead of a box? Both sets’ chase cards turn up graded from time to time — browse our PSA10 collection for current stock across both sets. Individual graded cards move one holder at a time, so once a listing sells it’s gone.
