The jump between rows three and four is the story of this entire ladder — a roughly 85x gap between a very good modern alternate art and a 2017 secret rare that’s been out of print for the better part of a decade. The Entry Point: Acerola’s Mischief SAR
Acerola’s Mischief is the newest card on this list, released August 1, 2025 in M1S Mega Symphonia, the set that kicked off the Japanese MEGA era. The card exists in three forms out of that 63-card base set: a regular 059/063 (Uncommon), a regular-art SR at 084/063, and the SAR 090/063, illustrated by sui, that we’re covering here. The English counterpart is Mega Evolution 113/132, with a full art at 165/132 and a SIR at 183/132 — the SIR is the closest English equivalent to the Japanese SAR in terms of alternate-art treatment and rarity slot.
Effect-wise, Acerola’s Mischief is a conditional Supporter: it’s playable once your opponent has two or fewer Prize cards remaining, and it protects one of your Pokemon from damage and effects dealt by the opponent’s Pokemon ex through their next turn — a tempo tool built for closing out a game, not opening one.

Acerola’s Premonition SR — VMAX Climax
Acerola’s Premonition comes from s8b VMAX Climax, released December 3, 2021, and it’s the card in this ladder that sits closest in price to the Mischief SAR despite being four years older. It exists as a regular 148/184 and the SR at 255/184, illustrated by yuu. On the English side it appears in Brilliant Stars as 129/172 and in the Trainer Gallery subset as TG24/TG30.
The effect is a standard Supporter, not an ACE SPEC card: your opponent reveals their hand, and you draw a card for each Trainers’ card in it. It’s a hand-disruption-plus-draw tool that saw play across multiple Standard formats, which is part of why demand for the alternate art has stayed steady years after release.
Our PSA10 copy is currently out of stock, last listed at ¥21,074. It’s a useful middle rung on this ladder — priced almost identically to the Mischief SAR above it, but from an older set that is no longer in print. The 2017 Grail: Acerola SR 056/049
This is where the ladder stops being about incremental price gaps and starts being about a different tier of card entirely. Acerola SR 056/049 comes from SM2+ Facing a New Trial, a strengthened-expansion pack released April 21, 2017 — the same set that produced the regular 047/049 Acerola, a GX Battle Boost reprint at 103/114, and two later promos (223/SM-P and 395/SM-P, the latter covered below). The English equivalent is Burning Shadows 112/147 for the regular version, with the full art at 142/147 sharing the same Megumi Mizutani artwork as the Japanese SR.
The card’s effect is simple on paper: return one of your damaged Pokemon and all cards attached to it to your hand. What it lacks in complexity it makes up for in scarcity — this is an eight-year-old secret rare from a set that’s been out of print for most of that time, and the market has priced it accordingly.

The Trophy Tier: Extra Battle Day Promo 395/SM-P
At the top of the ladder sits a card you couldn’t have bought new even when it was current. Acerola 395/SM-P is a full-art promo with brand-new artwork by kirisAki — not a reprint of the 2017 SR’s illustration — and it was never sold. It was awarded.
The card comes from Extra Battle Day, a series of in-store tournament events held across October and November 2019 to mark the release of the Extra Regulation Box. Each event capped participation at eight players and ran three rounds of Swiss. Winners received one of three randomized promo packs numbered 395–397/SM-P, and even players who lost their matches walked away with a smaller consolation promo pack. Card 395 — Acerola — was one of the three possible winner prizes.
We don’t have a verified print run for this promo, and we’re not going to guess at one. What we can say is that it was distributed only through a short window of tournament wins in late 2019, never sold as a standalone product, and never reprinted with this artwork. That combination — tournament-only distribution, a single new illustration, and no reprint of this artwork since — is what places it among the rarer trainer-card promos in the hobby.
