Palkia has been reprinted across Japanese sets for nearly a decade, and the card that most buyers search for — Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR — exists in two separate printings, a UR and an HR. Palkia full art cards also include the Ultra Moon Palkia GX SR (SM5M 069/066).
If you’re specifically after the Origin Forme VSTAR and want the deep-dive on that one card, a dedicated Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR guide covers that print in detail. We ship Japanese sealed product and singles out of Tokyo.
Seven Palkia prints are covered here, spanning 2015 to 2024. The two Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR chase cards are the VSTAR Universe UR (s12a 259/172) and the Space Juggler HR (S10P 081/067). If you’re chasing the HR through sealed product, our S10P Space Juggler Booster Box is currently listed.

Palkia Full Art Cards: The SR, UR and HR Prints Covered Here
Collectors use “full art” for prints whose artwork fills the whole card face. Japanese sets do not print those words: the official card database prints only a rarity code, and the full-art treatments are the SR (full-art ex and Supporter cards), SAR (Special Art Rare), AR (Art Rare), CHR / CSR (Character Rare) and the gold UR and rainbow HR printings. Among the Palkia prints covered here, the prints with an art rarity code are the Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR UR and HR and the Palkia GX SR.
| Card | Set mark · number | Rarity | Illustrator | Our listing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR | s12a · 259/172 | UR | AKIRA EGAWA | sold out at the time of this update |
| Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR | S10P · 081/067 | HR | aky CG Works | sold out at the time of this update |
| Palkia GX | SM5M · 069/066 | SR | 5ban Graphics | not listed |

Japanese Palkia Prints, 2015 to 2024
Seven Palkia prints across six Japanese sets, from the 2015 Legendary Shine Collection to the current Paradise Dragona:
| Card | Number | Rarity | Set | Year |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR | s12a 259/172 | UR | VSTAR Universe | 2022 |
| Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR | S10P 081/067 | HR | Space Juggler | 2022 |
| Palkia | CP2 005/027 | R | Legendary Shine Collection | 2015 |
| Palkia | S8a 009/028 | — | 25th Anniversary Collection | 2021 |
| Palkia GX | SM5M 069/066 | SR | Ultra Moon | 2017 |
| Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX | SM12 065 | RR | Alter Genesis | 2019 |
| Palkia | SV7a 043 | R | Paradise Dragona | 2024 |
Two of these seven — the Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR in its UR and HR forms — are the prints most buyers are actually looking for. The other five span Palkia’s Japanese TCG history covered here: a 2015 release alongside Dialga, a 2017 GX secret rare, a 2019 three-Pokemon TAG TEAM, a 2021 anniversary reprint, and a 2024 card still legal in the current Standard format.
Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR: UR and HR Side by Side
Both cards are the same Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR — HP280 Water, VSTAR Power “Star Portal”, which attaches up to three Water Energy from the discard pile to your Pokemon in any way you like, and an attack named あくうのうねり that does 60 damage plus 20 more for each Pokemon on both benches. What separates the two is the set and the art treatment: the s12a 259/172 UR, from VSTAR Universe (December 2, 2022), illustrated by AKIRA EGAWA, and the S10P 081/067 HR, from Space Juggler (April 8, 2022), illustrated by aky CG Works.
If you want the full breakdown of how these two prints compare card-for-card, our Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR guide goes deeper than we do here; the set-by-set breakdowns are in our VSTAR Universe set guide and our Space Juggler set guide.
Both prints show the same Origin Forme artwork style at a glance. The set code printed at the bottom of the card — s12a versus S10P — is the fastest way to tell a UR from an HR without comparing prices first.
2015: The Legendary Shine Collection Print
![Palkia [CP2 005/027] R (Legendary Shine Collection)](https://samuraiswordtokyo.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/img_palkia_cp2_5_r_jp_c40f7024dec2-1.webp)
Palkia’s earliest print in this guide comes from the Legendary Shine Collection premium champion pack (CP2), released July 18, 2015 — a holo rare at HP120 Water. Its attacks are “Splash” for 30 damage and “Cross Slicer” for 80 damage, which also stops the opponent from attaching an Energy card by hand on their next turn. The illustration is credited to Naoki Saito.
CP2 005/027 shares its set with Dialga’s CP2 017/027, from the same Legendary Shine Collection release. If you’re building out the full Dialga side of the timeline, our Dialga cards guide covers that print alongside Dialga’s own Origin Forme VSTAR chase cards.
2017: Palkia GX and the Ultra Moon Secret Rare
![Palkia GX [SM5M 069/066] SR (Ultra Moon)](https://samuraiswordtokyo.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/img_palkia_sm5m_69_r_jp_6968b6c8f95a-1.webp)
Two years later, Palkia got its GX treatment in Ultra Moon (SM5M), landing at card number 069/066 — a slot beyond the set’s printed count. HP180 Dragon, with an Ability named くうかんせいぎょ that moves Energy from the Bench onto this Pokemon, an attack called “Hydro Pressure” that deals 60 damage plus 20 more for each attached Water Energy, and a GX attack, “Zero Vanish GX,” that returns all Energy from the opponent’s Active Pokemon to their deck. Illustrated by 5ban Graphics.
This print sits alongside a Dialga GX SR from the sister set Ultra Sun (SM5S) — the two Legendary GX secret rares released within the Ultra Sun/Ultra Moon split.
2019: Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX
![Arceus & Dialga & Palkia GX [SM12 065] RR (Alter Genesis)](https://samuraiswordtokyo.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/img_palkia_sm12_65_r_jp_d9e24fcf8e94-1.webp)
Palkia’s biggest team-up print groups it with Arceus and Dialga in a single TAG TEAM card from Alter Genesis (SM12), card number 065. HP280 Dragon across three Legendary Pokemon on one card — the attack “Ultimate Ray” deals 150 damage and accelerates three basic Energy from the deck onto your Pokemon, while the GX attack “Alter Genesis GX” adds 30 damage to your attacks for the rest of the game, and with an extra Energy attached, lets you take one more Prize card. Illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita.
This card was widely used as a core piece in top-performing three-Legendary decks during its competitive era — a role that reflects how much damage output and Energy acceleration a single TAG TEAM slot could offer in that format.
2021: The 25th Anniversary Collection Print
![Palkia [S8a 009/028] (25th Anniversary Collection)](https://samuraiswordtokyo.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/img_palkia_s8a_9_r_jp_2c1ed551e906-1.webp)
Palkia returned for Pokemon’s 25th anniversary in the 25th Anniversary Collection (S8a), released October 21, 2021. HP130 Water, with an Ability named ぜったいくうかん that stops the opponent from playing Stadium cards, and an attack, “Over Smash,” that deals 80 damage and adds 80 more on this Pokemon’s next attack. Illustrated by 5ban Graphics — the same illustrator behind the Dialga 25th Anniversary print released in the same set.
2024: Palkia Returns in Paradise Dragona
![Palkia [SV7a 043] R (Paradise Dragona)](https://samuraiswordtokyo.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/img_palkia_sv7a_43_r_jp_adab4e64b912-1.webp)
The most recent print in this guide comes from Paradise Dragona (SV7a), a holo rare at HP130 Dragon. Its attack, “Space Crush,” deals 40 damage for every basic Energy attached to this Pokemon. Illustrated by danciao. This is a card still legal in the current Standard format, and it shares its English-language counterpart, Surging Sparks #136, with the international release of the set.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Palkia cards are full art?
The Japanese full art Palkia prints covered here are the Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR UR (s12a 259/172, illustrated by AKIRA EGAWA) and HR (S10P 081/067, illustrated by aky CG Works), and the Palkia GX SR (SM5M 069/066, illustrated by 5ban Graphics). Japanese sets print only the rarity code.
What’s the difference between the two Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR prints?
They’re the same card — identical attacks and VSTAR Power — pulled from two different sets: the UR is from VSTAR Universe (s12a 259/172, December 2022) and the HR is from Space Juggler (S10P 081/067, April 2022). The set code printed on the card is the fastest way to tell them apart.
Is this the same as your Origin Forme Palkia VSTAR guide?
