Search for a Penny Pokemon card and you’ll find her name attached to six different Japanese prints across two sets — a promo, a plain uncommon, a super rare, two special art rares in different colourways, and a straight mirror reprint. Penny full art cards covered here include the super rare and the two special art rares. No print changes what she does — every card number changes only how she looks.
Her January 2023 debut in Scarlet ex (SV1S) and her December 2023 return in Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a) account for five of the six prints; the sixth is a promo. We ship Japanese sealed product and singles out of Tokyo; USD figures convert at ¥154/USD, approximate.
Six Japanese Penny prints are confirmed across Scarlet ex (SV1S, January 2023), Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a, December 2023) and one promo. Three carry an art rarity: the SV1S SR and SAR and the SV4a SAR. The Shiny Treasure ex Booster Box (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) is where the SV4a SAR is pulled from.

Penny Full Art Cards: Japanese SR and SAR Prints
Collectors use “full art” for prints whose artwork fills the whole card face. Japanese sets do not print those words: the official card database prints only a rarity code, and the full-art treatments are the SR (full-art ex and Supporter cards), SAR (Special Art Rare), AR (Art Rare), CHR / CSR (Character Rare) and the gold UR and rainbow HR printings. The Penny full art cards covered here are SR and SAR prints:
| Card | Set mark · number | Rarity | Illustrator | Our listing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Penny | SV1S · 100/078 | SR | yuu | not listed |
| Penny | SV1S · 105/078 | SAR | OKACHEKE | not listed |
| Penny | SV4a · 354/190 | SAR | aspara | sold out at the time of this update |
For how the treatments differ across sets, see our full art Pokemon cards guide.
Every Penny Print and What to Look For
Six Japanese Penny prints have been confirmed so far, spanning a promo card and two mainline sets:
| Number | Rarity | Set | Year | Illustrator | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Penny | SVP 057 | Promo | SVP | — | yuu |
| Penny | SV1S 077/078 | U | Scarlet ex | 2023 | yuu |
| Penny | SV1S 100/078 | SR | Scarlet ex | 2023 | yuu |
| Penny | SV1S 105/078 | SAR | Scarlet ex | 2023 | OKACHEKE |
| Penny | SV4a 182/190 | Regular print | Shiny Treasure ex | 2023 | yuu |
| Penny | SV4a 354/190 | SAR | Shiny Treasure ex | 2023 | aspara |
Every print carries the same “Return” effect, and what changes from row to row is the artwork and the finish — not the card text. The SV1S 077/078 uncommon is the base version most players open first; the two SAR prints, one per set, are the alternate-art chase versions built around a full illustration rather than the standard frame.
Three illustrators worked on Penny across these six prints — yuu (promo, SV1S 077/078, SV1S 100/078, SV4a 182/190), OKACHEKE (SV1S 105/078), and aspara (SV4a 354/190). That split matters for identification: the two SAR-tier prints don’t share an artist, so a card credited to yuu is never the special art rare version, regardless of which set it’s from.
The Debut: Scarlet ex (SV1S)
Penny’s Japanese TCG debut came in Scarlet ex (SV1S), released January 20, 2023, where she was printed three times in the same set.
The 077/078 uncommon and the 100/078 super rare are both credited to yuu — the uncommon in the standard frame, the SR in the set’s full-art SR slot. The 105/078 special art rare is a separate illustration entirely: artist OKACHEKE places Penny at a classroom desk in the last light of sunset, chin resting on her hand — a distinct scene from the regular print rather than a foil variant of it.
Don’t assume “SAR” and “SR” are close in value or rarity. On this card, the SAR (105/078, OKACHEKE) is a completely different illustration from the SR (100/078, yuu), not a foil upgrade of the same art.
There’s also a promo print, Penny SVP 057, illustrated by yuu.
The Reprint: Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a)
![Penny [SV4a 354/190] SAR (Shiny Treasure ex)](https://samuraiswordtokyo.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/08/img_penny_sv4a_354_r_jp_2e159326c12d-1.webp)
Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a), released December 1, 2023, brought Penny back with a new illustration by aspara at 354/190, special art rare.
The same set also carries a plain reprint at 182/190, a regular-art mirror using yuu’s original illustration rather than a new one. If you’re comparing listings, the number is the fastest way to tell the two SV4a prints apart — 182 for the regular reprint, 354 for the SAR.
SV4a is a large set (/190 total), and its secret-rare range — where 354/190 sits — carries a higher print number than the set’s total. That’s normal for Japanese SAR and secret-rare slots, not a sign the card is mislabeled.
What Penny’s Trainer Card Actually Does
Every Penny print shares the same effect: choose 1 of your Basic Pokemon in play, then return that Pokemon and all cards attached to it to your hand. It’s a reset button — useful for pulling back a Basic that’s carrying a full Energy load before it gets knocked out, or for re-triggering an Ability that only fires when a Pokemon enters play.
Because the card text is identical across the promo, the uncommon, the SR, both SAR prints, and the regular SV4a mirror, none of the six prints plays any differently at the table — the differences are entirely in artwork, rarity, and set. Internationally, the same card was released as Penny in the English-language Scarlet & Violet set (#183, #239 full art, #252) and reprinted in Paldean Fates (#239), for collectors cross-referencing between languages.
That naming consistency is worth flagging on its own: the Japanese card’s effect, once translated, lines up exactly with the English “Penny” text printed on the Scarlet & Violet and Paldean Fates cards, so a Japanese listing and its English counterpart can be matched on card text alone if the set and number aren’t available.
Chasing the SAR Through Shiny Treasure ex Boxes
The SV4a 354/190 SAR comes out of Shiny Treasure ex booster boxes alongside the rest of the set’s special art rare lineup, including our sibling Nemona Pokemon cards guide — Nemona’s own SAR (351/190) sits just three numbers before Penny’s in the same set. The Shiny Treasure ex Booster Box (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) Sealed option is currently listed at ¥20,057 (~$130).
