Seven MEGA series sets, eight box SKUs, and a MEGA series booster box lineup in which the most expensive box costs more than double the cheapest. If you’re trying to work out which Japanese MEGA booster box is worth your money, the price differences are bigger — and less predictable — than the release order suggests.
Since the MEGA era launched in August 2025, seven Japanese Pokemon sets have carried the “M” naming — M1 (released as two parallel boxes), M2, M2A, M3, M4, M5, and M6. The boxes are currently listed by us out of Tokyo.
Eight MEGA series boxes cover seven sets released between August 2025 and July 2026. The cheapest is M3 Munikis Zero (No Shrink option) and the most expensive is M2 Inferno X — more than double, top to bottom. Price alone doesn’t predict chase-card value: one of the cheaper boxes in the lineup sits behind one of its most expensive single cards.

Dates sourced from Bulbapedia’s list of Japanese Pokemon TCG expansions. From the August 2025 split launch through Storm Emeralda in July 2026, the MEGA series has kept to a roughly 7–10 week cadence — six mainline drops (M2 through M6) following the initial M1 split.
The M1 Split: Mega Brave vs Mega Symphonia
The MEGA series opened on August 1, 2025 with two boxes at once rather than one: M1L Mega Brave and M1S Mega Symphonia. Both launched the same day, and their Sealed options are among the lowest-priced entries in the ranking.
Today, Mega Symphonia is the lower-priced of the two against Mega Brave. That’s a current listing difference, not a launch-price fact, since both were released together. For a full side-by-side breakdown of the two, see our Mega Brave vs Mega Symphonia box guide.
M3 Munikis Zero and M4 Ninja Spinner
M3 Munikis Zero (Nihil Zero) and M4 Ninja Spinner followed in January and March 2026, and both sit below M2A and M2 in the price ranking — M4 is currently listed at ¥10,246 (~$67). Lower box price doesn’t mean lower-value chase cards, though: M3 has produced an individually-graded single worth several times the box price.
A PSA10 MEGA Zygarde ex MUR from M3 is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥53,439 (~$347) — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms. That is far above the M3 box price. Box price and single-card value don’t track each other in this series.
For a direct head-to-head on these two sets, see our M3 Munikis Zero vs M4 Ninja Spinner box guide.
M2A MEGA Dream ex and M6 Storm Emeralda
M2A MEGA Dream ex, at ¥13,723 (~$89), followed M2 by two months and sits well below it on price despite sharing the “M2” family name — the two are compared directly in our M2 vs M2A box guide. The most recent set in the lineup, M6 Storm Emeralda, released July 31, 2026 and sits below M4 and well below M2A in the ranking.

M6 and the previous set, M5 Abyss Eye, are compared in more detail in our M5 Abyss Eye vs M6 Storm Emeralda box guide; M4 and M5 are compared in our M4 Ninja Spinner vs M5 Abyss Eye box guide.
Which MEGA Box Should You Buy
There’s no single “best” box here — it depends on what you’re optimizing for. Two honest ways to look at the lineup:
- Lowest entry price: M3 Munikis Zero (No Shrink option) is the cheapest way into the series, followed by M1S Mega Symphonia, M1L Mega Brave and M5 Abyss Eye.
- Highest documented chase-card value: M2 Inferno X’s PSA10 MEGA Charizard X ex MUR is far above any other single referenced here, followed by M3’s MEGA Zygarde ex MUR and M2A’s PSA10 Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex SAR.
If you’re weighing box price against graded-card upside across the whole MEGA era rather than just these seven sets, our PSA10 MEGA Pokemon cards guide covers the graded side in more depth, and our budget MEGA ex cards guide is the place to start if price is your main constraint.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which MEGA series box is the cheapest?
M3 Munikis Zero (Nihil Zero), at its No Shrink option, is currently the cheapest of the eight, followed by M1S Mega Symphonia and M1L Mega Brave, with M5 Abyss Eye (Pitch Black) next.
Which MEGA series box is the most expensive?
M2 Inferno X — more than double the price of the cheapest box in the series.
Why did M1 release as two separate boxes?
M1 launched on August 1, 2025 as two parallel box releases, M1L Mega Brave and M1S Mega Symphonia, rather than a single box.
How often does a new MEGA series box release?
Roughly every 7 to 10 weeks. From the August 2025 M1 split through M6 Storm Emeralda in July 2026, the series has produced six mainline drops (M2 through M6) after the initial split release.
Does a higher box price mean a more valuable chase card?
Not consistently. M2 Inferno X is both the most expensive box and the source of the highest-value single referenced here, a PSA10 MEGA Charizard X ex MUR. But M3 Munikis Zero, one of the cheaper boxes, has its own PSA10 MEGA Zygarde ex MUR well above the box price.
