Cute Pokemon Cards: 12 Adorable Japanese Prints Worth Collecting

Cute Pokemon Cards: 12 Adorable Japanese Prints Worth Collecting

Not every card worth chasing is a secret rare gold foil. Some of the most requested pulls in our Tokyo inventory are the small, round, big-eyed ones — Mimikyu peeking out of a cape, a Yu Nagaba Eevee drawn like a pop-art poster, a chibi Flaaffy tangled in its own wool.

This is a curated list, not a ranking. We’ve pulled twelve Japanese prints from illustrators and rarity tiers that consistently lean into character-driven, rounded, “cute” art direction — Character Rare (CHR) chibi treatments, Art Rare (AR) close-ups, and a couple of Special Art Rares (SAR) that fit the same mood. Every card below is a Japanese print, and every price is what we currently have listed, not a market estimate.

Key Takeaways

Twelve picks across eight Japanese sets from 2019 to 2025. Prices for our PSA 10 copies run from ¥5,148 (~$32) for Wigglytuff AR (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) up to ¥116,160 (~$731) for the Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX special art (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). Character Rare (CHR) is the rarity tier most associated with this chibi-mascot style.

What Counts as “Cute” in Our Picks

“Cute” isn’t an official Pokemon TCG rarity, so this list is editorial — our picks, based on what we see customers ask for and what consistently sells well in the chibi and mascot-art space. A few patterns recur across the cards below:

  • Character Rare (CHR). Introduced in the Sword & Shield era, CHR cards use a rounded, mascot-style illustration of the Pokemon rather than a battle pose — Mimikyu, Dedenne and Flaaffy on this list are all CHR.
  • Art Rare (AR) close-ups. The more recent MEGA-era sets (M2 Inferno X, M2a MEGA Dream ex) use AR for full-illustration, close-cropped Pokemon art — Piplup, Psyduck, Wigglytuff and Team Rocket’s Mimikyu fall here.
  • Baby and evolution-line Pokemon. Togepi, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Flaaffy and Psyduck are pre-evolutions or early-stage forms, which tends to push the art style softer and rounder regardless of rarity.
  • Illustrator-led promos. The Yu Nagaba Eevee is a design collaboration rather than a rarity-driven chase card — it’s on this list purely for the art.

If you’re after the character-focused side of the hobby rather than Pokemon specifically, our female Pokemon Trainer cards guide covers the Trainer/Supporter side of the same aesthetic. And if you want the rarity-tier explainer behind SAR, AR and full-art framing in general, see our full-art Pokemon cards guide.

Our 12 Picks

1. Mimikyu — SM11b Dream League, CHR 058/049

Mimikyu 058/049 CHR, SM11b Dream League
Mimikyu 058/049 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) CHR — SM11b Dream League

Illustrated by You Iribi and released 2 August 2019, this is the chibi Character Rare that most people picture when they hear “cute Pokemon card” — Mimikyu’s cape and stitched Pikachu-head disguise drawn full-body in soft colours. Our PSA 10 copy is currently listed at ¥27,346 (~$172) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). For more on this line, see our Mimikyu cards guide.

2. Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX — SM12a Tag Team GX Tag All Stars, SR 186/173 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order)

Togepi and Cleffa and Igglybuff GX 186/173 SR special full art, SM12a Tag Team GX Tag All Stars
Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX 186/173 SR (special full art) — SM12a Tag Team GX Tag All Stars

Three baby Pokemon sharing one Tag Team GX card, released 4 October 2019. This particular print (186/173) is the special full-art treatment by illustrator 0313, printed rarity SR — collectors often shorthand it as the “SA” copy, but the printed mark is SR. It’s the priciest pick on this list: our PSA 10 is currently listed at ¥116,160 (~$731) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). Our Togepi cards guide covers this Tag Team card and its other prints.

3. Eevee — Yu Nagaba Promo, SVP 062/SV-P (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order)

Eevee 062/SV-P promo, Yu Nagaba illustration, SVP Scarlet and Violet Promotional Cards
Eevee 062/SV-P — SVP Scarlet & Violet Promotional Cards (Yu Nagaba illustration)

Streetwear artist Yu Nagaba’s flat, graphic take on Eevee is one of the most distinctive promo designs Japan has released — it wasn’t distributed outside Japan. Our PSA 10 copy is currently listed at ¥42,240 (~$266) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). See our best Eevee cards guide for the full Eevee-line lineup.

4. Eevee ex — SV8a Terastal Festival ex, SAR 223/187

Eevee ex 223/187 SAR, SV8a Terastal Festival ex
Eevee ex 223/187 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) SAR — SV8a Terastal Festival ex

Illustrator tono’s Special Art Rare Eevee ex from Terastal Festival ex (released 6 December 2024) puts a whole field of Eevee evolutions around a soft, storybook-style Eevee. Our PSA 10 of 223/187 is currently listed at ¥17,771 (~$112) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order); a second Eevee ex SAR from the same set, 224/187, is listed at ¥15,444 (~$97) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order).

5. Sylveon ex — SV8a Terastal Festival ex, SAR 212/187 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order)

Sylveon ex 212/187 SAR, SV8a Terastal Festival ex
Sylveon ex 212/187 SAR — SV8a Terastal Festival ex

From the same 6 December 2024 set, illustrator Cona Nitanda’s Sylveon ex leans into pastel ribbons and a soft-focus background — it’s the pick we get asked about most from this set. Our PSA 10 is currently listed at ¥30,778 (~$194) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). More Sylveon prints are in our Sylveon cards guide, and the full set is covered in our Terastal Festival ex (SV8a) card list.

6. Piplup — M2 Inferno X, AR 085/080

Piplup 085/080 AR, M2 Inferno X
Piplup 085/080 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) AR — M2 Inferno X

Illustrator Jiro Sasumo’s Art Rare Piplup, from the 26 September 2025 M2 Inferno X set, is one of the more affordable entries here — a close, waist-deep-in-water illustration with no battle framing at all. Our PSA 10 is currently listed at ¥6,270 (~$39) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). See our Piplup cards guide for the rest of the line.

7. Psyduck — M2a MEGA Dream ex, AR 199/193

Psyduck 199/193 AR, M2a MEGA Dream ex
Psyduck 199/193 AR — M2a MEGA Dream ex

Illustrator REND’s Art Rare Psyduck, from the 28 November 2025 M2a MEGA Dream ex set, captures the classic confused expression in full illustration. Our PSA 10 is currently listed at ¥10,780 (~$68). Our Psyduck cards guide covers earlier printings too.

8. Wigglytuff — M2 Inferno X, AR 091/080 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order)

Wigglytuff 091/080 AR, M2 Inferno X
Wigglytuff 091/080 AR — M2 Inferno X

Also illustrated by REND and from the same 26 September 2025 set as Piplup, this Art Rare Wigglytuff is the most affordable card on this whole list. Our PSA 10 is currently listed at ¥5,148 (~$32) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) — a genuine entry point into grading and collecting. See our Jigglypuff line cards guide for the family.

Dedenne 200/184 CHR, S8b VMAX Climax
Dedenne 200/184 CHR — S8b VMAX Climax

Illustrator kurumitsu’s Character Rare Dedenne, from the 3 December 2021 VMAX Climax set, is a full-body chibi illustration in the same CHR style as Mimikyu, though from a different Japanese set — VMAX Climax is one of the sets most collectors point to for CHR chibi art. Our PSA 10 is currently listed at ¥15,730 (~$99) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). The full CHR line-up is in our VMAX Climax card list.

10. Flaaffy — S8b VMAX Climax, CHR 194/184 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order)

Flaaffy 194/184 CHR, S8b VMAX Climax
Flaaffy 194/184 CHR — S8b VMAX Climax

Illustrator saino misaki’s Flaaffy CHR, from the same VMAX Climax set, is one of the more overlooked chibi cards on this list — a mid-evolution Pokemon rather than a well-known mascot, drawn tangled in its own wool. Our PSA 10 is currently listed at ¥8,789 (~$55) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order).

11. Lillie’s Clefairy ex — SV9 Battle Partners, SR 115/100

Lillie's Clefairy ex 115/100 SR, SV9 Battle Partners
Lillie’s Clefairy ex 115/100 SR — SV9 Battle Partners

Illustrated by 5ban Graphics and released 24 January 2025, this Trainer’s-Pokemon SR pairs Lillie with Clefairy in a soft, moonlit illustration. Our PSA 10 is currently listed at ¥12,859 (~$81). Our Clefairy cards guide has more on this print.

Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX 186/173 SM12a Tag Team GX SR ¥116,160 (~$731) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order)

Character Rare and Art Rare cards dominate the affordable end of this list, while the special full-art SR and the promo-exclusive Yu Nagaba Eevee sit well above the rest — scarcity of the print run, not “cuteness,” is what separates them.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is “cute Pokemon card” an official rarity or category?

No. It’s an editorial grouping we use for cards with rounded, mascot-style, or character-driven art — most often Character Rare (CHR) and Art Rare (AR) prints, plus a few Special Art Rares and one illustrator promo. It isn’t a set-defined tier.

What is a Character Rare (CHR) card?

CHR (Character Rare) is a Japanese rarity that uses a full-body, chibi-style illustration of a Pokemon rather than a battle pose. It first appeared in the Sun & Moon era — Mimikyu on this list is CHR from Dream League (SM11b, August 2019) — and continued into Sword & Shield sets; Dedenne and Flaaffy on this list are both CHR from VMAX Climax (S8b, December 2021).

Are these Japanese cards different from their English releases?

Card numbers, set names and release dates differ between the Japanese originals listed here and their eventual English printings, and the Japanese versions release first. We list the Japanese set code and number for each card so you can match it to whichever English set it later appeared in.

Which cute Pokemon card on this list is the most affordable?

Our PSA 10 Wigglytuff (091/080 AR, M2 Inferno X) is currently the lowest-priced pick at ¥5,148 (~$32), followed by Team Rocket’s Mimikyu (205/193 AR) at ¥5,962 (~$38).

Why is the Togepi & Cleffa & Igglybuff GX card so much more expensive than the others?

That copy (186/173) is the special full-art print of the Tag Team GX card, printed rarity SR, illustrated by 0313. It’s a scarcer, more sought-after print than a standard-rarity chibi card, which is reflected in the listed price.

How do I buy these Japanese cards from outside Japan?

We ship graded singles and sealed Japanese product worldwide from Tokyo with tracked delivery. Use the product links on this page for specific cards, or our Quick Order page to combine several items into one order.
