Gardevoir ex Delta Species Promo 015/025 Card Guide

Gardevoir ex Delta Species Promo 015/025 Card Guide

A Fire-type Gardevoir. That single detail is the whole story behind this card — Gardevoir is a Psychic-type Pokemon in every mainline game and in almost every other printing, but the Delta Species mechanic lets it carry an off-type instead, and this promo is one of the clearest examples of what that mechanic actually does on a card.

The print we’re covering is Gardevoir ex δ (Delta Species), card 015/025 from the Japanese Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition (set code S8a-P). This guide walks through the card’s stats and Poke-Power, traces its print history back to its 2006 origin, explains how the S8a-P promo pack fits into the wider 25th Anniversary program, and compares the Japanese print to its English counterparts. We currently list a PSA 10 copy of this exact print, graded and shipped from Tokyo.

The Card: Gardevoir ex δ 015/025 Promo

Gardevoir ex δ is a Stage 2 Pokemon, evolving from Kirlia. In Japanese it’s printed as サーナイトex δ(デルタ種). The card carries 150 HP and is typed as Fire rather than Gardevoir’s usual Psychic typing — that swap is the entire point of the Delta Species (δ) mechanic, which lets a Pokemon carry an off-type from its normal game typing. For more on how the mechanic works across other cards, see our Delta Species Pokemon cards guide.

Its Poke-Power, Imprison, reads: once during your turn, before your attack, if Gardevoir ex is your Active Pokemon, you may put an Imprison marker on one of your opponent’s Pokemon, which stops that Pokemon from using its own Poke-Powers or Poke-Bodies. Its attack, Flame Ball, costs 1 Fire energy plus 2 Colorless, deals 80 damage, and lets you move a Fire Energy card already attached to Gardevoir ex onto a benched Pokemon instead. The card is illustrated by Masahiko Ishii.

The Set: Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition (S8a-P)

Our anchor print comes from the Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition, Japanese set code S8a-P, part of the broader 25th Anniversary program that also produced the numbered S8a 25th Anniversary Collection expansion and the S8a-G Golden Box. Cards in the S8a-P promo pack share a common /025 denominator — ours is 015/025.

That same S8a-P promo pack is where several of our other single-card guides come from. We’ve separately covered the Shining Magikarp 010/025, Xerneas EX 023/025, Venusaur 002/025, and Umbreon 012/025 prints from this same pack — five different Pokemon, one shared promo release.

The numbered S8a Collection booster box is currently listed at ¥79,800 (~$502) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). None of these three products are the promo pack itself and none contain the 015/025 promo card, but they’re the sealed side of the same 25th Anniversary release program that produced it.

Japanese vs English Print

Gardevoir ex δ has been printed in both languages, but the two print histories don’t run on parallel tracks. The original English print, EX Dragon Frontiers 93/101, was a standard Rare Holo ex slot inside a regular expansion — something a player could pull from a booster pack in 2006. The original Japanese release never worked that way: it came exclusively from a constructed deck and a tour-event jumbo promo, both closed distribution channels rather than randomized packs.

The 2021 reprints follow the same split. English collectors got the card back through Celebrations’ Classic Collection, a set insert with wide print distribution. Japanese collectors got it through the Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition (S8a-P), a dedicated promo pack rather than a mainline expansion. Our anchor listing is that Japanese S8a-P 015/025 promo print.

One mechanic worth separating clearly here: Delta Species (δ) is not the same thing as Mega Evolution. Gardevoir has also appeared as a Mega Evolution card under a completely different name and mechanic in more recent sets — that’s covered in our Mega Gardevoir cards guide. The Fire-type Gardevoir ex on this page gets its off-type from the 2006-era Delta Species mechanic, not from Mega Evolution, and the two card families shouldn’t be treated as reprints of one another.

Where This Promo Sits Among Japanese Rarity Tiers

Promo cards like this one don’t sit on the same common-to-secret-rare ladder that mainline Japanese expansions use. There’s no booster pack this card can be pulled from — it was distributed directly, first through a constructed deck and tour event, then through the dedicated S8a-P promo pack. Its rarity classification is simply “Promo,” a separate distribution channel rather than a rung on a randomized pull-rate structure.

Within our own PSA 10 catalogue, the 015/025 Gardevoir ex sits alongside other graded singles from the same broader 25th Anniversary era. Our PSA 10 Pikachu: Mirror [s8a 001/028] comes from the numbered S8a Collection set rather than the promo pack, and our PSA 10 Poke Ball [S8a-G 002/015] comes from the Golden Box line — different products within the same 2021 anniversary program, each with its own numbering.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Gardevoir ex Delta Species Promo 015/025?

It’s the Japanese promo print of Gardevoir ex δ (Delta Species), card 015/025 from the Promo Card Pack 25th Anniversary Edition (set code S8a-P), issued in 2021. We carry a PSA 10 copy of this print, currently listed at ¥10,537 (~$66).

What does the Delta Species (δ) mechanic do to Gardevoir ex?

It lets Gardevoir ex carry a Fire type instead of its usual Psychic type. The card’s Poke-Power, Imprison, can lock down an opposing Pokemon’s Poke-Power or Poke-Body, and its attack, Flame Ball, deals 80 damage for 1 Fire plus 2 Colorless energy.

Is this the same card as the 2006 Dragon Frontiers Gardevoir ex?

It’s the same card design carried forward, not a fresh printing. The original English release was EX Dragon Frontiers 93/101 (2006), Rare Holo ex. In Japan, the original 005/024 print came from the “Imprison! Gardevoir ex” Constructed Standard Deck, with a separate unnumbered Pokemon Jungle Tours jumbo promo in 2006. The 015/025 print we list is the 2021 Japanese 25th Anniversary reissue.

Does Gardevoir ex Delta Species have an English print?

Yes. Besides the 2006 Dragon Frontiers original, it was reprinted in English in 2021 through Celebrations’ Classic Collection with a Confetti Holofoil treatment and 25th Anniversary logo — the same reprint wave that produced our Japanese S8a-P 015/025 promo.

Is Delta Species Gardevoir ex the same as Mega Gardevoir ex?

No. Delta Species is a 2006-era mechanic that lets a Pokemon carry an off-type, which is why this Gardevoir is Fire instead of Psychic. Mega Gardevoir ex is a separate, more recent card family built on the unrelated Mega Evolution mechanic. See our Mega Gardevoir cards guide for that side of the catalogue.

Where can I buy a PSA 10 Gardevoir ex Delta Species Promo from Tokyo?

Our graded 015/025 copy is currently listed at ¥10,537 (~$66) with tracked shipping from Tokyo. Sealed product from the same 25th Anniversary program — the S8A Booster Box, Collection Special Set, and Golden Box — is also available if you’d rather build a wider order.
