Gardevoir has been a chase card in Japanese Pokemon TCG for eleven straight years, and it never left. It was there in 2014 when the first Mega Evolution mechanic launched. It was there in 2019 as a Tag Team GX. And in August 2025, it came back as the literal cover card of the franchise’s newest mechanic — Mega Evolution ex — with its own dedicated set built around it.
That kind of continuity is rare. Most Pokemon can point to one good era. Gardevoir has three: the XY vintage secret rares from 2014–2017, the Tag Team GX era in 2019, and the current Mega era that started in 2025. The two threads worth following are the XY-vintage secret rares (the highest raw asking prices on the secondary market) and the new Mega Evolution ex line, which reintroduced Mega Gardevoir as a headline card after an eight-year gap. The sections below take each printing in order.
The XY Vintage Ladder: Tidal Storm & Cruel Traitor
Gardevoir’s first Mega Evolution printing came in Tidal Storm (タイダルストーム, XY5), a Japan-only set released December 13, 2014 with 70 cards. Its English equivalent is Primal Clash, but the Japanese secret rares are numbered and priced on their own track:
- M Gardevoir-EX SR 076/070 — the Mega Evolution secret rare, English equivalent Primal Clash 106/160 and 156/160 (Full Art).
- Gardevoir-EX SR 075/070 — the base-form secret rare, English equivalent Primal Clash 105/160 and 155/160.
Eighteen months later, Cruel Traitor (冷酷の反逆者, XY11) released June 17, 2016 with 54 cards, paired at retail with Fever-Burst Fighter. It carried the same Gardevoir pairing at a new number:
- M Gardevoir-EX SR 057/054 — English equivalent Steam Siege 79/114 and 112/114 (Full Art).
- Gardevoir-EX SR 056/054, with a third Ultra Rare print at 059/054 — English equivalent Steam Siege 78/114.
On the secondary market, SNKRDUNK asking prices from August 6, 2026 show the vintage secret rares carrying real weight: a single Gardevoir EX SR (XY5 075/070) listing asked ¥180,000 raw, with a 1st Edition copy at ¥85,000. On the M Gardevoir-EX side, 1st Edition raws asked ¥45,000–47,500 across both sets. Our own graded stock sits above those raw numbers, which is the normal PSA10 premium: PSA10 M Gardevoir-EX SR 1ED [XY11-1 057/054] is ¥102,999, and PSA10 M Gardevoir-EX SR [XY5 076/070] is ¥103,000.
Two secret rares that landed roughly two years apart, both priced in the same six-figure band today. That is the definition of a vintage card that held its ground.
What “1st Edition” Actually Means
Japanese Pokemon cards carried a “1st Edition” print-run stamp from the earliest Pokémon VS/Pokémon Web sets in 2001 through Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary (the Japanese counterpart to English Evolutions), released December 2016. Both Tidal Storm (December 2014) and Cruel Traitor (June 2016) fall inside that window, so first-print copies of the Gardevoir cards above were struck with the stamp, with later restocks arriving as unstamped “unlimited” copies.
The 1st Edition mark is a general era-wide rule, not a guarantee stamped on every single card by name — treat any specific listing’s 1st Edition claim as something to verify against the physical stamp, not the set date alone. On the secondary market, 1st Edition copies of the same Gardevoir print consistently asked less than the newest unstamped raws in the August 2026 SNKRDUNK data (¥85,000 vs ¥180,000 for XY5 075/070), which reflects how thin that specific market segment is rather than a rule about which stamp is worth more.
The Grail: M Gardevoir-EX RR [020/032]
Not every valuable Gardevoir came out of a numbered XY main set. PokéKyun Collection (コンセプトパック ポケキュンコレクション), released January 29, 2016, was a 32-card Japan-only concept pack — the first subset of the XY BREAK era. Its English content later resurfaced inside the Radiant Collection subset of Generations, but the Japanese pack itself was never a mainline set.
Inside that pack: Gardevoir-EX RR at 019/032, and M Gardevoir-EX RR at 020/032 — the card that anchors this guide. Concept-pack prints run in far smaller numbers than a standard XY expansion, and that scarcity shows directly in price: our PSA10 copy is priced at ¥204,311 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), roughly double the vintage secret rares above despite carrying the “lower” RR rarity tier rather than SR. Rarity letter and market price don’t always move together — print run size is the variable that actually decides this one.
Budget Vintage: The Best of XY Reprint
The Best of XY, a Japan-only High Class Pack released April 21, 2017, closed out the XY BREAK era with a 188-card retrospective pack (numbered through at least 171 in the main run). It reprinted M Gardevoir-EX as a plain Rare Holo at 092/171, alongside base Gardevoir-EX at 091/171 — no English-language release of this product exists.
Because it’s a Rare Holo reprint rather than a secret rare or concept-pack RR, it’s the most affordable way into the vintage Mega Gardevoir look: our PSA10 copy is ¥23,690, roughly a quarter the price of the Tidal Storm or Cruel Traitor secret rares, while sharing the same “vintage Mega Gardevoir” era. For collectors building the ladder in order of budget, this is where the vintage side of the collection realistically starts.
Tag Team Era: Gardevoir & Sylveon-GX
The Sun & Moon era gave Gardevoir a Tag Team partner. Night Unison (SM9a), released January 11, 2019 with 70 cards, featured Gardevoir & Sylveon-GX RR at 031/055 — English equivalent Unbroken Bonds 130/214, with Full Art, Special Full Art, and Secret Rainbow Rare variants of the same card appearing later in the same Japanese print block (060/055, 061/055, 067/055).

The Mega Era Returns: M1S Mega Symphonia
Mega Gardevoir sat out for eight years after The Best of XY. It came back on August 1, 2025, as the cover Pokemon of Mega Symphonia (M1S), the companion set to Mega Brave (M1L) in the official launch of Pokemon’s new Mega Evolution ex mechanic — a return of the “further evolution beyond the limits of evolution” idea, this time built into the card’s own text box rather than a rule-book mechanic. Mega ex cards give up three Prize cards on knockout, the same premium-for-power tradeoff the original Mega-EX line used.

The MUR (Mega Ultra Rare) is the gold-etched top card of the set — the same treatment tier that topped Storm Emeralda’s Mega Rayquaza a week earlier in the same MEGA series rollout. English-language equivalents land in the Mega Evolution set at Double Rare, Ultra Rare, Special Illustration Rare, and Mega Hyper Rare tiers respectively. SNKRDUNK asking prices from August 6, 2026 put the SR (078/063) at a modest ¥1,000 raw — early-market pricing for a card that’s still fresh off release, and community ranking articles list the MUR as the set’s #1 chase card. The Budget Mega: M2a MEGA Dream ex
Three months after Mega Symphonia, MEGA Dream ex (M2a) released November 28, 2025 as a 250-card set that reprinted Mega Gardevoir ex at two more rarities: RR at 071/193, and a full-art pop-art style MA (Mega Attack Rare) at 226/193, which prints the card’s headline attack in large foreground text.
The MA reprint is the most accessible current-era Gardevoir in the shop — our PSA10 copy is ¥6,159 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), well under half the price of the vintage Best of XY reprint and a fraction of the vintage secret rares.
