Mega Darkrai ex Pitch Black comes as a Special Illustration Rare and a Mega Hyper Rare, two of seven top-tier cards.
The English Mega Evolution—Pitch Black expansion released on July 17, 2026, and its official page describes “over 35 cards with special illustrations”. Limitless numbers the top of the set as six Special Illustration Rares (SIR), 114 to 119, and one Mega Hyper Rare, 120. Japan received the cards first: the expansion pack Abyss Eye (アビスアイ), M5, went on sale on May 22, 2026, per pokemon-card.com.
No official source says the two sets are equal, so each English card below is paired with a Japanese card only where the two lists match card by card. We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. Prices use ¥154/USD.
Pitch Black has six SIR and one Mega Hyper Rare; Abyss Eye has six SAR (112–117) and one MUR (118), and they pair one for one. We list the Japanese Mega Darkrai ex SAR as a PSA 10 back order at ¥32,538 (~$211) and the MUR at ¥59,160 (~$384).
Official images and illustrators come from the official Japanese card database as of September 29, 2026. Asking prices are lowest asks on SNKRDUNK, September 30, 2026 (JST); an ask is not a sold price.
The Seven Top-Tier Cards, Side by Side
The table pairs each English top-tier card with the Japanese card in the same position of the Abyss Eye list. English numbers come from Limitless; Japanese numbers, rarity icons and illustrators come from the official Japanese card database.
| English card (PBL) | Rarity | Japanese card (M5) | Illustrator (JP database) | Same art |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Zeraora ex 114 | SIR | 112/081 SAR | GIDORA | Not verified |
| Mega Chandelure ex 115 | SIR | 113/081 SAR | REND | Not verified |
| Mega Darkrai ex 116 | SIR | 114/081 SAR | AKIRA EGAWA | Yes |
| Morpeko ex 117 | SIR | 115/081 SAR | NC Empire | Not verified |
| Gladion’s Final Battle 118 | SIR | 116/081 SAR | DOM | Not verified |
| Gwynn 119 | SIR | 117/081 SAR | Naoki Saito | Not verified |
| Mega Darkrai ex 120/084 | Mega Hyper Rare | 118/081 MUR | 5ban Graphics | No |
The English rarity names follow Limitless. The official English pages call these “cards with special illustrations” and do not print a rarity list.
How the Two Sets Are Numbered
Limitless records the English set as 84 printed cards plus 36 secret cards, 120 in all. The official database records Abyss Eye as 81 printed cards with secret cards numbered 082 to 118, 118 entries in all. The six SIR sit at 114–119 in English and the six SAR at 112–117 in Japanese. The top card is 120 in English and 118 in Japanese.
English cards print their number over /084 and Japanese cards over /081, so a secret card reads 116/084 in one language and 114/081 in the other. The Japanese card ムク is Gwynn in English, and the Japanese card グラジオの決戦 is Gladion’s Final Battle. For the full Japanese list, see the Abyss Eye card list and the Pitch Black card list.
If you are choosing between a Pitch Black box and the Japanese box, the product side is covered in our Pitch Black ETB, booster box and bundle comparison.

| Japanese card | Rarity | English match (Limitless) | Illustrator | Our listing |

| Mega Darkrai ex 099/081 | SR | Ultra Rare 101 | 5ban Graphics | Not listed |
| Mega Darkrai ex 046/081 | RR | Not verified | 5ban Graphics | Not listed |

Lowest asks on SNKRDUNK, September 30, 2026, for the two lower cards: 099 is ¥1,000 in any condition (the display floor) and ¥5,900 for a PSA 10; 046 is ¥1,000 in any condition and has no PSA 10 ask. Asking Prices on SNKRDUNK, Card by Card
The table collects the asks from the card blocks above. Each figure is the lowest ask listed on SNKRDUNK on September 30, 2026 (JST) for the grade named in the column; none is a sold price.
| Japanese card | Lowest ask, any condition | Lowest ask, A-grade | Lowest ask, PSA 10 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Mega Darkrai ex MUR 118 | ¥23,500 | ¥32,500 | ¥57,000 |
| Mega Darkrai ex SAR 114 | ¥15,555 | ¥16,200 | ¥31,500 |
| Morpeko ex SAR 115 | ¥3,300 | ¥3,300 | ¥10,200 |
| Gwynn SAR 117 | ¥2,900 | ¥3,200 | ¥12,500 |
| Mega Zeraora ex SAR 112 | ¥2,000 | ¥2,468 | ¥11,500 |
| Mega Chandelure ex SAR 113 | ¥1,000 (display floor) | ¥1,500 | ¥8,400 |
| Gladion’s Final Battle SAR 116 | ¥1,000 (display floor) | ¥1,000 | ¥8,500 |
On SNKRDUNK, the MUR 118 and SAR 114 show 15 or more PSA 10 asks; the PSA 10 asks for the other five cards are indicative. The “any condition” figure is the card-level lowest ask and is often a lower-grade copy, which is why the A-grade column is shown next to it.
The Tier Below: Ultra Rare and SR Pairs
Below the SIR tier, Limitless lists English Ultra Rare cards that match Japanese SR cards of the same Pokémon. These are the same Pokémon in the same position of the list, not verified same-art pairs.
| English Ultra Rare (PBL) | Japanese SR (M5) | Same art |
|---|---|---|
| Mega Darkrai ex 101 | 099/081 | Not verified |
| Mega Zeraora ex 98 | 096/081 | Not verified |
| Mega Chandelure ex 99 | 097/081 | Not verified |
| Gladion’s Final Battle 108 | 109/081 | Not verified |
| Gwynn 109 | 111/081 | Not verified |
The Japanese set also has a Zarude AR at 090 with no Pitch Black Illustration Rare counterpart in the Limitless list. The English Illustration Rare run is 85 to 95, 11 cards, against 12 Japanese AR.
Reported Pull Rates for the English Packs
The official Pokémon pages publish no pull rates for Pitch Black. The only named-outlet report is TCGplayer’s “Pokémon TCG: Pitch Black Pull Rates” by Peter Day, published July 21, 2026, based on more than 4,000 English booster packs opened at the TCGplayer Authentication Center. These are English packs; they say nothing about Japanese packs, which hold 5 cards and are built differently.
| Reported category | Reported rate per pack | Reported as |
|---|---|---|
| Special Illustration Rare (any) | 1.25% ± 0.33% | 1 in 80 |
| One named SIR, for example Mega Darkrai ex | 0.21% ± 0.14% | 1 in 480 |
| Mega Hyper Rare (Mega Darkrai ex) | 0.09% ± 0.09% | 1 in 1081 |
TCGplayer states that the rates “appear to be identical” to those of Phantasmal Flames, Perfect Order and Chaos Rising, and gives 95% confidence intervals. For the Japanese side, see M5 Abyss Eye pull rates and best cards; no named outlet report of Japanese Abyss Eye pull rates was found as of September 29, 2026.
