Pokemon Pitch Black Booster Bundle vs the Japanese Abyss Eye (M5) Box

Pokemon Pitch Black Booster Bundle vs the Japanese Abyss Eye (M5) Box

The Pokemon Pitch Black Booster Bundle holds six booster packs from the Mega Evolution—Pitch Black expansion, according to the official pokemon.com product page, which gives its launch as July 17, 2026.

Per Bulbapedia (October 2, 2026), Pitch Black includes cards that were released first in the Japanese Abyss Eye (M5) expansion. The bundle page itself prints no price, no promo card and no card list, so the practical comparison with a Japanese M5 box rests on one headline card, Mega Darkrai ex, whose English and Japanese prints can be set side by side with their numbers and illustrator credits.

Our store ships Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. Prices quoted for it are listings as of October 2, 2026, with USD converted at ¥154/USD, approximate.

Key Takeaways

The official page lists six booster packs for the bundle and prints no price, promo or code card. The English set carries four Mega Darkrai ex prints (PBL 48, 101, 116, 120) and the official Japanese database lists four in Abyss Eye (046/081, 099/081, 114/081, 118/081), each pair with the same illustrator credit. The Japanese M5 box is offered as a Damaged Box at ¥7,796 (~$51).

What Is Inside the Pitch Black Booster Bundle

The official page is titled Pokemon TCG: Mega Evolution—Pitch Black Booster Bundle and gives the launch as July 17, 2026. Its product text says the bundle contains six booster packs from the Pitch Black expansion, and that bundles are sold at the Pokemon Center and where Pokemon TCG products are sold. The expansion page for the same set describes it as part of the Mega Evolution Series, with a release date of July 17, 2026 and a card count of over 115.

Contents Six booster packs from the Pitch Black expansion

Price No price on the page

The expansion overview names the set’s lead Pokemon: Mega Darkrai ex arrives with mystery and malice, Mega Zeraora ex fights back, and Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Excadrill ex join the fray. The expansion page also bullets over 115 cards, more new Mega Evolution Pokemon ex, more than 20 Trainer cards and more than 35 Pokemon and Trainer cards with special illustrations. Bulbapedia’s merchandise page (October 1, 2026) agrees on the bundle: it released together with the expansion on July 17, 2026 and each box included six Pitch Black booster packs, with no promotional cards line.

For the individual cards of that lineup, see our guides to Mega Chandelure ex and Mega Excadrill ex, and the wider product comparison in Pitch Black ETB, Booster Box and Bundle vs Japanese Abyss Eye.

The Bundle Next to the Japanese Abyss Eye Box

A bundle and a booster box are different kinds of product. The bundle is a fixed pack of six English booster packs; a Japanese booster box is a sealed box of Japanese packs from one expansion. These are the fields that each official page actually prints.

The Japanese official page says cards are inserted at random, so no pack or box page tells you which cards a particular pack holds. The two products share a set lineage, not a packaging format: six English packs on one side, a box of Japanese packs on the other.

What the Japanese Abyss Eye (M5) Box Is

The official Japanese page describes Abyss Eye as a MEGA expansion pack: five cards per pack, ¥200 per pack with tax, released on Friday, May 22, 2026. The page text singles out the headline card’s attack, which knocks out an opposing Pokemon that has a Special Condition regardless of its remaining HP. Limitless’s Japanese set header reads Abyss Eye (M5), 22nd May 2026, 118 cards.

As of September 30, 2026, the official card database returns 118 cards for the set and prints a set size of 081. Its rarity split by number range is as follows.

Number range Cards Rarity breakdown (official database icons)
001–081 81 C 38, U 27, R 8, RR 8
082–118 37 AR 12, SR 18, SAR 6, MUR 1
Whole set 118 Matches the Limitless count of 118

The set’s full numbering is on our Abyss Eye (M5) card list, and the older set-level write-ups are the Abyss Eye complete guide and the Abyss Eye booster box buying guide.

How the English and Japanese Set Sizes Compare

The English Pitch Black set and the Japanese Abyss Eye set are not the same length, and the sources count them differently.

Source English Pitch Black (PBL) Japanese Abyss Eye (M5)
Official page Over 115 cards (pokemon.com expansion page) 118 cards in the card database
Limitless TCG 120 cards, 17th July 2026 118 cards, 22nd May 2026
Bulbapedia 120 cards (84 + 36 secret), released July 17, 2026 Not compared by count
Printed denominator /084 (Bulbapedia) /081 (official database)

Bulbapedia’s set page (October 2, 2026) states that Pitch Black includes cards released in the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion, and that it released worldwide on July 17, 2026. The count difference means the English set is not a one-to-one copy of the Japanese list; only the card-by-card pairings that the sources list should be treated as pairings.

Mega Darkrai ex: English Prints Against Japanese Prints

Mega Darkrai ex is the first Pokemon named in the English expansion overview and the first booster-pack caption on Bulbapedia, and it is the card the official Japanese Abyss Eye page describes. Limitless lists four English prints and the official database lists four Japanese ones.

As of October 2, 2026, the official database lists four cards named メガダークライex, all in M5. Limitless TCG (October 2, 2026) lists the English prints PBL 48 Double Rare, PBL 101 Ultra Rare, PBL 116 Special Art Rare and PBL 120 Secret Rare; its rarity names are its own, and on the Japanese side Limitless labels 099 as Secret Rare and 118 as Ultra Rare while the official icons read SR and MUR. Limitless lists these as prints of the same card, and each pair shares an illustrator credit.

English print (Limitless) Illustrator Japanese print (official database) Illustrator Credit match
PBL 48, Double Rare 5ban Graphics M5 046/081, RR 5ban Graphics Same illustrator credit
PBL 101, Ultra Rare 5ban Graphics M5 099/081, SR 5ban Graphics Same illustrator credit
PBL 116, Special Art Rare AKIRA EGAWA M5 114/081, SAR AKIRA EGAWA Same illustrator credit
PBL 120, Secret Rare 5ban Graphics M5 118/081, MUR 5ban Graphics Same illustrator credit
MEP 90 (promo) 5ban Graphics No Japanese print of that art Not applicable Bulbapedia: alternate artwork

Bulbapedia’s card page (October 2, 2026) lists four Pitch Black versions of the card — Regular, Full Art ultra rare, special illustration rare and gold-etched Mega hyper rare — and says the card was first released in the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion. It adds that the Regular, Full Art ultra rare and Mega hyper rare prints feature artwork by 5ban Graphics, while the special illustration rare print features AKIRA EGAWA. A shared credit is all the sources establish; none of them states that an English print and its Japanese partner show the same image.

Mega Darkrai ex RR 046/081

Mega Darkrai ex 046/081 RR M5 Abyss Eye
Mega Darkrai ex 046/081 RR, M5 Abyss Eye

The RR is the regular print, numbered inside the 81-card main range. The database shows a Basic Pokemon with 280 HP, Weakness Grass ×2, no Resistance and a retreat cost of 2. Limitless lists the English PBL 48 with the same 280 HP, Darkness type, Weakness Grass, no Resistance and a retreat of 2.

Mega Darkrai ex SR 099/081

Mega Darkrai ex 099/081 SR M5 Abyss Eye
Mega Darkrai ex 099/081 SR, M5 Abyss Eye

The SR is numbered beyond the printed set size and is credited to 5ban Graphics, the credit Limitless gives for PBL 101. The card text is identical across all four Japanese pages in the database.

Mega Darkrai ex SAR 114/081

Mega Darkrai ex 114/081 SAR M5 Abyss Eye
Mega Darkrai ex 114/081 SAR, M5 Abyss Eye

The SAR is the only one of the four with a different illustrator, AKIRA EGAWA, matching the credit Limitless gives for PBL 116 and the special illustration rare print on Bulbapedia.

Mega Darkrai ex MUR 118/081

Mega Darkrai ex 118/081 MUR M5 Abyss Eye
Mega Darkrai ex 118/081 MUR, M5 Abyss Eye

The MUR is the last number in the set, 118, and is credited to 5ban Graphics. Limitless lists PBL 120 as its English partner, with the same credit.

What the Japanese card text says

The four Japanese pages carry one text. The attack ナイトレイド (rendering: Night Raid) costs two Darkness Energy and does 110+ damage; if any of your Benched Pokemon have damage counters on them, it does 110 more. The attack アビスアイ (rendering: Abyss Eye) costs three Darkness Energy, prints no damage figure, and Knocks Out the opponent’s Active Pokemon if it is affected by a Special Condition. The special rule says that when a Mega Evolution ex is Knocked Out, the opponent takes 3 Prize cards.

The MEP 90 Promo Is Not a Bundle Card

Limitless lists a Mega Darkrai ex in its Mega Promos set as MEP 90, credited to 5ban Graphics, with the same type, HP and text as the set card. It is easy to read that as a bundle bonus, because another Pitch Black product, the Elite Trainer Box, does carry a promo according to Bulbapedia. The official bundle page lists none, and Bulbapedia’s merchandise entry has no promotional cards line for the bundle.

Bulbapedia’s Mega Darkrai ex card page (October 2, 2026) says a print of the Regular card with alternate artwork by 5ban Graphics was available as one of the MEP Black Star Promos in the Mega Forces Tins from August 28, 2026, citing the pokemon.com Mega Forces Tin page. So the promo belongs to a tin, and it has no Japanese print: it is the one English print in the pairing table without a Japanese partner.

Bulbapedia’s merchandise page (October 1, 2026) attaches a different promo to a different Pitch Black product: the Elite Trainer Box carries a full-art foil Zarude promo, MEP Promo 088, which it says was previously released in the Abyss Eye expansion in Japan. That detail belongs to the Elite Trainer Box and not to the bundle.

Japanese Box Prices: Dated Asks and Our Listings

The bundle has no official price, and no English market figure is quoted for it. On the Japanese side there are two kinds of number: SNKRDUNK asking prices and our own listing prices. Asks are the prices sellers request, not sale prices.

Abyss Eye box (standard, sealed) ¥7,799 (~$51)
Abyss Eye box (No Shrink) ¥6,700 (~$44)

These are lowest asking prices on SNKRDUNK as of October 2, 2026, taken from each product page’s per-condition grid. SNKRDUNK shows ¥1,000 as its display floor, so a ¥1,000 entry is that floor and not a quoted ask. Asks are not sale prices.

The SAR and MUR are the two Japanese prints with asks well apart from the floor. The credit pairings carry no price information: PBL 116 and M5 114/081 share AKIRA EGAWA as illustrator, and that fact says nothing about how either card is priced.

PSA 10 Listings for the Japanese Mega Darkrai ex

PSA 10 designates Gem Mint condition per PSA’s published grading standards. The Mega Darkrai ex SAR and MUR are offered as PSA 10 back orders — sourced to order, and the product page shows the current terms. How that route works is covered in our PSA 10 back orders guide.

Buying Checklist: Bundle or Japanese Box

The two products suit different jobs, and the checklist follows from what the official pages print.

  • Confirm the product type. The bundle is six English booster packs; a Japanese M5 box is a box of Japanese packs. Neither page lists the other’s contents.
  • Read the print number, not the name. English Mega Darkrai ex prints are numbered PBL 48, 101, 116 and 120; the Japanese prints are 046, 099, 114 and 118 over 081. The printed set sizes differ, /084 against /081.
  • Compare illustrator credits. 5ban Graphics is credited on three of the four pairs and AKIRA EGAWA on the SAR pair. Do not treat a credit match as an artwork match.
  • Check the promo source. MEP 90 is a Mega Forces Tin promo according to Bulbapedia; it is not listed for the bundle.
  • Look for the price on the right product. For Japanese boxes, compare a Damaged Box, a No Shrink Damaged Box and the standard box as separate products, never as the same item.
  • Use dated asks for singles. SNKRDUNK asks are asking prices with a date, and a ¥1,000 figure is a display floor.
  • For graded cards, check that the product title names the grade and the card number before ordering.

Where to Buy the Japanese Abyss Eye Box from Japan

We ship Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. The Pitch Black Booster Bundle itself is an English product sold at the Pokemon Center and where Pokemon TCG products are sold, per the official page. The Japanese counterparts are these:

  • Abyss Eye box, Damaged Box: currently listed at ¥7,796 (~$51), and the No Shrink Damaged Box is a separate product currently listed at ¥7,308 (~$47).
  • Abyss Eye box, standard product: the No Shrink option is currently listed at ¥8,603 (~$56).
  • Graded singles: the PSA 10 Mega Darkrai ex SAR is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥30,736 (~$200), and the MUR at ¥59,874 (~$389).

More Mega series boxes sit in the Pokemon card box collection, and the graded range is on the PSA 10 collection. The M5 numbering is on the M5 card list. For chase-card context see Pokemon Pitch Black chase cards, the Pitch Black release date comparison and the Japanese sets behind Pitch Black. Sourcing requests for a specific card go through Quick Order.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the Pokemon Pitch Black Booster Bundle contain?

The official pokemon.com product page lists six booster packs from the Mega Evolution—Pitch Black expansion and nothing else. It prints no promo card, no code card, no price and no per-pack card count, so those details are not confirmed for the bundle.

When did the Pitch Black Booster Bundle and the Japanese Abyss Eye box release?

The official pokemon.com page gives July 17, 2026 as the launch of the Pitch Black Booster Bundle. The Japanese Abyss Eye (M5) expansion has a release date of May 22, 2026 on the official pokemon-card.com page, so the Japanese packs came first by about two months.

How much does the Pitch Black Booster Bundle cost?

The official pokemon.com page prints no price for the bundle. The Japanese side does print one: the official Abyss Eye page gives ¥200 per 5-card pack, tax included. Our Japanese M5 Damaged Box is currently listed at ¥7,796 (~$51), a separate product with its own terms.

Is the Pitch Black Booster Bundle the same as a Japanese Abyss Eye box?

No official source says so. Bulbapedia states that Pitch Black includes cards released in the Japanese Abyss Eye expansion, but the bundle is six English packs and an Abyss Eye box is a Japanese product with Japanese text. Compare print numbers and illustrator credits, not product names.

Which Japanese cards match Mega Darkrai ex from Pitch Black?

Limitless lists four English prints of Mega Darkrai ex: PBL 48, 101, 116 and 120. The official Japanese database lists four in Abyss Eye: RR 046/081, SR 099/081, SAR 114/081 and MUR 118/081. Each pair carries the same illustrator credit, which is a credit match, not an artwork match.

Does the Pitch Black Booster Bundle include a Mega Darkrai ex promo?

The official page lists no promo card, and Bulbapedia lists none for the bundle. Bulbapedia places the Mega Darkrai ex promo, MEP 90, in the Mega Forces Tins from August 28, 2026. That is a different product, so do not expect the promo inside a bundle.

How many cards are in the Japanese Abyss Eye (M5) set?

The official Pokemon Card Game database returns 118 cards for Abyss Eye, with a printed set size of 081. The first 81 are C, U, R and RR cards, and the 37 numbered 082 to 118 are AR, SR, SAR and MUR. Limitless also shows 118 cards for M5.

Can I buy a Japanese Abyss Eye box from outside Japan?

We ship Japanese sealed product from Tokyo, and the Abyss Eye boxes are listed as separate products: Damaged Box, No Shrink Damaged Box and the standard box with a No Shrink option. Sourcing requests for a specific card or box go through Quick Order.
