Aerodactyl has one of the odder origin stories in the Pokemon TCG — a fighting-type revived from a fossil in 1997, still getting new Japanese printings in current-era Scarlet & Violet sets. Its Aerodactyl full art cards covered here are the SR prints of Aerodactyl V in Lost Abyss and Aerodactyl GX in Miracle Twin, and the 151 set adds a Master Ball mirror finish shared only by the set’s commons, uncommons, and rares — never its top rarities.

Aerodactyl Full Art Cards: Lost Abyss and Miracle Twin SR Prints
Collectors use “full art” for prints whose artwork fills the whole card face. Japanese sets do not print those words: the official card database prints only a rarity code, and the full-art treatments are the SR (full-art ex and Supporter cards), SAR (Special Art Rare), AR (Art Rare), CHR / CSR (Character Rare) and the gold UR and rainbow HR printings. The Aerodactyl full art cards covered here are SR prints from Lost Abyss (S11) and Miracle Twin (SM11):
| Card | Set mark · number | Rarity | Illustrator | Our listing |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Aerodactyl V | S11 · 105/100 | SR | N-DESIGN Inc. | not listed |
| Aerodactyl V | S11 · 106/100 | SR (SA) | Nurikabe | not listed |
| Aerodactyl GX | SM11 · 100/094 | SR | ConceptLab | not listed |

Two things stand out across the run. First, among the sets covered here, Aerodactyl’s highest-profile modern treatments are GX and VSTAR, one generation apart. Second, the 151 print is the only one here with a confirmed mirror-foil parallel on the same card number.
The Modern Print: 151 Rare and Its Master Ball Mirror

Aerodactyl’s entry in the 151 set (SV2a 142/165) is a Colorless, 130 HP Stage 1 card illustrated by Shinji Kanda. Its attack かっくう (kakkuu) does 30 damage, and its second attack, たいかこうせん (taika kousen), does 100 damage and devolves the opponent’s Evolved Active Pokemon back to its previous stage.
Like the rest of the 151 set’s commons, uncommons, and rares in the Japanese, Korean, and traditional Chinese printings, Aerodactyl 142/165 was issued with two mirror-foil parallels on the same card number: a Poke Ball mirror and a rarer Master Ball mirror. Both versions turn up as real listed items across Japanese and international retailers, confirming the parallel exists for this specific card rather than just as a general set mechanic. Our guide to Japanese mirror card variants covers how the Poke Ball and Master Ball finishes work across the set more broadly, and our dedicated Master Ball mirror cards guide looks at the finish itself card by card.
A Master Ball mirror copy reads as the same artwork as the base print at a glance — the difference is in the foil pattern layered over the card face, not the illustration itself.

The Vintage Original: Mystery of the Fossils (1997)
Aerodactyl’s first Japanese printing predates card numbering as we know it today. It appeared in the third-generation Japanese expansion, released June 21, 1997 and known in English-language reference as Mystery of the Fossils — the same expansion that became the English-language Fossil set roughly two years later. Unlike the English Fossil release, which included both holo and non-holo versions of Aerodactyl, the Japanese printing came in holo finish only.
The card is a Fighting-type Stage 1 that evolves from the Mysterious Fossil (ひみつのコハク) rather than from a standard Basic Pokemon — a mechanic unique to the Fossil-era cards built around reviving ancient Pokemon from fossil items. It carries a Pokemon Power called げんしのちから (Prehistoric Power). VSTAR and V: The Lost Abyss Lineup
Lost Abyss (S11), released July 15, 2022, gave Aerodactyl its VSTAR and V treatment across five separate cards. The VSTAR prints (057/100 and 118/100) are both illustrated by 5ban Graphics; the V line splits between three artists.
Aerodactyl VSTAR (057/100, RRR) is a 260 HP Fighting card whose attack, ロストダイブ (Lost Dive), does 240 damage and mills the top three cards of its own deck to the Lost Zone. Its VSTAR Power ability, エンシェントスター (Ancient Star), removes every ability from the opponent’s Pokemon V while active — a disruptive, meta-relevant effect rather than a flavor-only text box. A second copy prints at the secret-numbered 118/100, which Limitless TCG’s database records as “Holo Rare”.
Aerodactyl V appears three times in the same set: the standard 056/100 (RR), an alternate 105/100 print (SR, illustrated by N-DESIGN Inc.), and the Special Art alternate at 106/100 (SR SA, illustrated by Nurikabe). All three share the same 210 HP stat line and attacks — かみつく (Bite) for 40 damage, and ロッククラッシュ (Rock Crush) for 120 damage, which discards one Energy card attached to the opponent’s Active Pokemon.
Aerodactyl GX: Miracle Twin

Miracle Twin (SM11), released May 31, 2019, is where Aerodactyl got its only GX treatment. The 210 HP Fighting Stage 1 card prints twice — a standard 045/094 (RR, illustrated by PLANETA Igarashi) and a special-art 100/094 (SR, illustrated by ConceptLab) — both sharing the same ability and attacks.
Its ability, げんしのかぜ, raises the Energy cost of attacks used by the opponent’s Basic Pokemon by one while Aerodactyl GX is in the Active spot. Its standard attack, ロックスマッシュ (Rock Smash), does 120 damage, and its GX attack, ワイルドダイブGX (Wild Dive GX), scales its effect off the amount of Energy attached to the opponent’s Active Pokemon — a once-per-game move, as with any GX attack.
Other Prints Worth Knowing

Tag Bolt (SM9), released December 7, 2018, carries a straightforward Colorless uncommon at 076/095, illustrated by hatachu. At 130 HP, its attack ちょうおんぱ (Supersonic) has a chance to confuse the Defending Pokemon, and かせきのキバ — a name that translates roughly to “Fossil Fang” — does 90 damage, plus an extra 90 if the opponent has no GX or EX Pokemon on their Bench.
Beyond these sets, Limitless TCG’s database also records a pair of promo-era Aerodactyl EX cards (XY-P #182 and #183) and a related “Aerodactyl Soul Link” promo (#187).

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Aerodactyl cards are full art?
The Aerodactyl full art cards in this guide are the Aerodactyl V SR 105/100 and SR (SA) 106/100 from Lost Abyss (S11), and the Aerodactyl GX SR 100/094 from Miracle Twin (SM11). The other Aerodactyl prints here carry no art rarity code. Collectors use “full art” for prints whose artwork fills the card face.
What is the rarest Aerodactyl Pokemon card?
Among current-era Japanese prints, the Master Ball mirror parallel of the 151 rare (SV2a 142/165) is the one with a confirmed rarer finish on the same card number as its Poke Ball counterpart. Aerodactyl’s oldest printing, from the 1997 Mystery of the Fossils expansion, is its vintage original and predates modern card numbering entirely.
What is a Master Ball Mirror Aerodactyl card?
It’s a mirror-foil parallel issued on the same card number as the base 151 print (SV2a 142/165). The 151 set’s commons, uncommons, and rares in the Japanese, Korean, and traditional Chinese printings were issued with both a Poke Ball mirror and a rarer Master Ball mirror finish, and both versions of the Aerodactyl card appear as real listed items on Japanese and international retailers.
Is there a vintage 1997 Aerodactyl Pokemon card?
Yes. The Japanese Mystery of the Fossils expansion, released June 21, 1997, included Aerodactyl in holo finish only (the English-language Fossil release, roughly two years later, included both holo and non-holo versions). It evolves from the Mysterious Fossil card rather than a standard Basic Pokemon.
Where can I buy Japanese Aerodactyl Pokemon cards?
We ship Japanese sealed product and singles out of Tokyo. The 151 Booster Box carries a chance at both the base Aerodactyl and its Master Ball mirror parallel; sourcing requests for other prints go through Quick Order.
