Arven Full Art Cards: Every Japanese SR and SAR Print

Arven Full Art Cards: Every Japanese SR and SAR Print

Arven full art cards covered here include the SR and SAR prints from Violet ex and the SAR from Shiny Treasure ex. Arven — ペパー (Pepper) in Japanese — is a support card built around one job: search your deck for a Goods card and a Pokemon Tool card in a single use, then add both straight to hand. It first appeared in Violet ex back in January 2023 and has since picked up six distinct Japanese prints covered here across two sets and one promo release.

Not all six look alike. Three of them — the regular uncommon, the SR, and the Shiny Treasure ex reprint — share GIDORA’s original Violet ex artwork; the two SAR versions are separate illustrations by kantaro and aspara. We ship Japanese sealed product out of Tokyo and source Arven singles to order.

Key Takeaway

Six main Japanese Arven prints are covered here: a regular, SR, and SAR from Violet ex (SV1V), a reprint and second SAR from Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a), and one SVP promo. We source Arven singles to order — the direct route to any of them is sealed product. The SV1V Violet ex Booster Box includes the regular, SR, and SAR prints; the SV4a Shiny Treasure ex Booster Box (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) includes the reprint plus the second SAR. For a specific print, grade, or the SVP promo, our Quick Order page takes sourcing requests directly.

Arven Full Art Cards: Every Japanese SR and SAR Print

Collectors use “full art” for prints whose artwork fills the whole card face. Japanese sets do not print those words: the official card database prints only a rarity code, and the full-art treatments are the SR (full-art ex and Supporter cards), SAR (Special Art Rare), AR (Art Rare), CHR / CSR (Character Rare) and the gold UR and rainbow HR printings. The Arven full art cards covered here are SR and SAR prints:

Card Set mark · number Rarity Illustrator Our listing
Arven SV1V · 099/078 SR GIDORA not listed
Arven SV1V · 104/078 SAR kantaro not listed
Arven SV4a · 353/190 SAR aspara not listed

For how the treatments differ across sets, see our full art Pokemon cards guide.

Arven SVP 030 PROMO SV Promotion Cards —

Two things stand out. First, every mainline print traces back to Violet ex — the SV4a cards are a reprint and a fresh illustration of the same card, not a new card effect. Second, three separate illustrators worked on the six prints: GIDORA handled the regular Violet ex print, the SV4a reprint, and the SVP promo; kantaro drew the Violet ex SAR; and aspara drew the Shiny Treasure ex SAR. That’s the fastest way to sort what looks, at a glance, like a lot of near-identical cards.

This regular/SR/SAR spread within a single set release is a familiar pattern for support cards in the SV era — the same card effect gets issued at three rarity tiers in three different frame treatments, so the effect stays available at a low rarity while the higher tiers give collectors a chase version. Arven’s Violet ex trio follows that pattern exactly, and the Shiny Treasure ex set repeats the same regular-plus-SAR split a year later with new artwork.

The Violet ex Trio: Regular, SR, and SAR

All three of Arven’s original prints came out together in Violet ex (SV1V), the set that also introduced the card’s search effect: choose a Goods card and a Pokemon Tool card from your deck and add both to your hand.

Arven [SV1V 076/078] U (Violet ex)

Arven, SV1V 076/078, U

Arven [SV1V 099/078] SR (Violet ex)

Arven, SV1V 099/078, SR

Arven [SV1V 104/078] SAR (Violet ex)

Arven, SV1V 104/078, SAR

The 076/078 regular print is a standard uncommon, illustrated by GIDORA, and it’s the copy most people run into first — the search effect saw play in SV-era decks needing a Goods and a Tool in the same turn.

The 099/078 SR is a full-art secret rare, same GIDORA artwork line, just in the larger full-art frame. The 104/078 SAR is a different illustration entirely — kantaro’s special art rare version, which places Arven alongside Mabosstiff rather than reusing the regular print’s pose.

Check This First

The SR and the regular print share the same artwork, just scaled to a full-art frame. The SAR is the one with a different scene entirely — Arven pictured with Mabosstiff. If your copy has no white border and a different pose than the regular print, you’re holding the SAR.

Visually, the three prints separate cleanly once you know what to look for. The regular 076/078 sits in a standard frame with a white border. The 099/078 SR moves to a full-art frame using the same GIDORA artwork, so the tell is the missing border rather than a new scene. The 104/078 SAR is the one where the artwork itself changes — Arven with Mabosstiff, kantaro’s composition, no relation to the other two beyond the shared card effect printed at the bottom.

For the rest of what Violet ex opened, our Violet ex best cards guide covers the set’s other chase cards alongside Arven.

The Shiny Treasure ex Return: Reprint and Second SAR

Arven [SV4a 353/190] SAR (Shiny Treasure ex)
Arven, SV4a 353/190, SAR

Shiny Treasure ex (SV4a) brought Arven back at the end of 2023, and it’s easy to assume the SAR here is just a reissue of the Violet ex version. It isn’t. SV4a 353/190 is a new illustration credited to aspara, distinct from both the GIDORA regular print and kantaro’s Mabosstiff SAR from Violet ex. Its number sits directly next to two other Shiny Treasure ex trainer SARs from the same character wave — Nemona at 351/190 and Penny at 354/190 — which is a useful check if you’re trying to confirm you have the right card by number rather than by name alone. If you’re tracking those two as well, we cover them in our Nemona Pokemon cards guide and Penny Pokemon cards guide.

Shiny Treasure ex also reprinted the regular Arven at 180/190, back to GIDORA’s original Violet ex artwork. It’s the same card effect and the same illustration line as 076/078, just carrying the SV4a set code and number instead.

For everything else in the set, our Shiny Treasure ex best cards guide rounds up the rest of the SAR lineup that 353/190 sits alongside.

Arven, SVP 030, Promo

The sixth confirmed print is SVP 030, part of the ongoing SV Promotion Cards series and illustrated by GIDORA — the same artist behind both the Violet ex regular print and the Shiny Treasure ex reprint. Treat it as a promo-only print rather than something tied to a specific box or event.

Beyond these six, Arven also turns up as a reprint in several Japanese structure decks and build boxes — SVD, SVHK, SVHM, SVK, SVN, and MA — and at SVP number 238 and M-P number 53. Structure deck and build box reprints like these are typically bundled into a fixed-list product rather than sold as standalone boosters.

Choosing Which Arven Print to Source

Since Arven isn’t a stocked single here, a Quick Order request narrows down fast once you know which of the six prints you’re actually after:

  • Want the character’s card debut — the regular Violet ex print, SV1V 076/078, GIDORA artwork.
  • Want the same artwork in a full-art frame — the Violet ex SR, SV1V 099/078.
  • Want the most distinct artwork from the original set — the Violet ex SAR, SV1V 104/078, Arven with Mabosstiff by kantaro.
  • Want the newer, separate illustration — the Shiny Treasure ex SAR, SV4a 353/190, by aspara.
  • Don’t need a specific print, just a shot at any of them — either sealed box is the more direct route than requesting a single.

Naming the exact set code and number in a Quick Order request — rather than just “Arven” — is the fastest way to make sure the print you receive matches what you had in mind, since the name alone covers six different cards.

Sourcing Arven Through Sealed Boxes

Because Arven doesn’t circulate as a stocked single here, sealed product is the direct route to the regular, SR, and SAR prints. The SV1V Violet ex Booster Box Sealed option is currently listed at ¥11,401 (~$74), and the SV4a Shiny Treasure ex Booster Box (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) Sealed option at ¥20,057 (~$130). Both are from sets that include confirmed Arven prints.
