The Charizard ex Special Collection is a June 27, 2025 product, and the official Charizard box of 2026 is a different item: the Mega Charizard Tin, launched February 20, 2026.
Pokemon.com’s product gallery lists the Special Collection with five booster packs, an etched foil Charizard ex promo, two foil cards featuring Charmander and Charmeleon, and an oversize lenticular card. No official page links this English box to any Japanese product, so the two sides are set next to each other without merging them: the English contents first, then the Japanese Charizard ex and Mega Charizard ex prints that carry the same Pokemon.
We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. USD figures use ¥154/USD, verified September 29, 2026.
- The Charizard ex Special Collection launched June 27, 2025, according to Pokemon.com. As of September 29, 2026, the official gallery lists no 2026-dated product with that name.
- The official 2026 Charizard product is the Mega Charizard Tin (launch February 20, 2026): 4 booster packs and 1 foil promo of Mega Charizard X ex or Mega Charizard Y ex.
- PokeBeach reported in January 2025 that the Darkness Charizard ex promo has a Japanese source in the Charizard ex and Chien-Pao ex Battle Master Decks; Pokemon.com does not say so.
- Japanese Charizard ex cards we list include the SV3 Ruler of the Black Flame SAR 134/108, offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥62,342 (~$405).
As of September 29, 2026, Pokemon.com’s product gallery shows "Launch: June 27, 2025" for the Charizard ex Special Collection and "Launch: February 20, 2026" for the Mega Charizard Tin.
What Pokemon.com States About the Special Collection
The official product page is titled Charizard ex Special Collection, and its contents line reads "The Pokémon TCG: Charizard ex Special Collection". The table below separates what the page prints from what it leaves out.

Dates, Prices and the "2026 Reprint" Claim
Several dates and prices circulate for this box. Only the manufacturer’s page is official: June 27, 2025.
| Source | Claim | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Pokemon.com product page | Launch June 27, 2025 | Official |
| PokeBeach, January 2025 | Reported an April 11 release | Reported; differs from the official page |
| ICv2, May 27, 2025 | Reported a retail price | Reported; the official page prints no price |
| Marketplace listing | Describes the box as a "2026 reprint" | Not supported by the official gallery |
| Pokemon.com product gallery | Lists 2026 items; none is named Charizard ex Special Collection | Official |
The April 11 date came from PokeBeach’s January 2025 announcement of the lenticular Charizard ex box; the official page later carried June 27, 2025, and the official date is the one to quote. ICv2 reported a retail price on May 27, 2025; Pokemon.com prints none.
The "2026 reprint" wording appears on a marketplace listing, and the official gallery does not support it. Anyone searching for a 2026 Charizard box from The Pokémon Company is looking at the Mega Charizard Tin, covered next.
The 2026 Product: Mega Charizard Tin
The Mega Charizard Tin is the Charizard product with a 2026 date on Pokemon.com. Its page shows "Launch: February 20, 2026" and lists one foil promo card featuring Mega Charizard X ex or Mega Charizard Y ex, four booster packs, and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live.

| Spec | Charizard ex Special Collection | Mega Charizard Tin |
|---|---|---|
| Launch (official) | June 27, 2025 | February 20, 2026 |
| Booster packs | 5 | 4 |
| Foil promo | 1 etched foil Charizard ex | 1 foil Mega Charizard X ex or Mega Charizard Y ex |
| Other cards | 2 foil cards (Charmander, Charmeleon); 1 oversize lenticular card | None listed |
| Code card | Pokémon TCG Live | Pokémon TCG Live |
| Promo number | Not printed | Not printed |
The two products answer different collector questions. The Special Collection is built around a Darkness-type Charizard ex, two cards from the same evolution line, and an oversize card. The tin trades the extras for a Mega Charizard promo and one fewer booster pack, and its promo is either the X or the Y version, which the page describes as a single either-or card.
Pokemon.com’s Paldean Fates Tin, launched February 9, 2024, is a third Charizard ex container worth naming so the three are not confused: it holds 5 packs and one foil promo that is Shiny Great Tusk ex, Shiny Iron Treads ex or Shiny Charizard ex. Its Charizard is a Shiny Charizard ex promo, not the Darkness-type card from the Special Collection.
Is There a Japanese Counterpart?
Neither Pokemon.com page names a Japanese product. The claims that do exist are labelled by source.
| Claim | Source | Status |
|---|---|---|
| The Special Collection has a named Japanese counterpart | No official source | Not stated officially |
| The Darkness Charizard ex promo comes from Japan’s Charizard ex and Chien-Pao ex Battle Master Decks | PokeBeach, January 2025 | Reported; Pokemon.com does not confirm it |
| The Mega Charizard Tin has a named Japanese counterpart | No official source | Not stated officially |
| Mega Charizard X ex exists in Japanese M2 Inferno X | Official Japanese card database | Official |
| Mega Charizard Y ex exists in Japanese Start Deck 100 Battle Collection | Official Japanese card database | Official |
The practical reading is simple. The English tin’s promo shows the same Pokemon as cards you can buy in Japanese packs, and the Japanese database lists those cards by number. It does not say the tin promo is any particular one of them, because the tin page prints no promo number.
The nearest Japanese sealed product to the Mega Charizard X ex is the M2 Inferno X booster box. The comparison below puts the English tin beside it.

The English side is Mega Evolution—Phantasmal Flames, which Bulbapedia (accessed September 2, 2026) says includes cards released in the Japanese Inferno X expansion; Limitless (September 2, 2026) lists English Phantasmal Flames numbers for three of the Japanese cards with the same artwork.

Japanese Mega Charizard Y ex Prints

| Japanese card + number | Set | Our listing |

The sealed product behind these prints is the MEGA Start Deck 100 Battle Collection, currently listed at ¥1,218 (~$8), with a White Box version currently listed at ¥44,660 (~$290). The Mega Charizard Tin’s Y option shows the same Pokemon as these cards; no official page connects the tin promo to either number. Our Mega Charizard Y ex card guide goes through the Japanese prints one by one.
Japanese Scarlet & Violet Charizard ex Prints
Before the Mega cards, Japan’s Scarlet & Violet sets carried lowercase-ex Charizard cards. The set-level pairings below are the closest English equivalents listed by Bulbapedia’s list of Japanese expansions (accessed September 15, 2026); they are not official statements that the sets are the same.

All rows are PSA 10 back orders. For the SV3 SAR, a physical PSA 10 copy is also currently listed at ¥63,565 (~$413) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order).
Charizard ex SAR 134/108, SV3

The English Obsidian Flames set launched August 11, 2023, per Pokemon.com, two weeks after the Japanese SV3 release. Its Elite Trainer Box carries a Charmander promo rather than a Charizard. The Japanese SV3 Ruler of the Black Flame booster box (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) is sold out at the time of this update — restock requests go through Quick Order.
Charizard ex SAR 201/165, SV2a

The English 151 set launched September 22, 2023, and its official product list includes an Elite Trainer Box built around Snorlax, not Charizard. The Japanese 151 box is currently listed at ¥44,502 for the Sealed option (~$289), and our Charizard 151 PSA 10 guide covers the Charizard ex prints of that set.
Charizard ex UR 139/108 and Charizard ex SAR 349/190

The SV4a SAR is a Japanese Charizard ex from Shiny Treasure ex. The English Paldean Fates Tin, launched February 9, 2024, offers a Shiny Charizard ex among its three possible promos; Pokemon.com does not tie that promo to card 349/190.
Older Japanese Charizard EX Listings

Buyer Checklist: Telling the Products Apart
Four checks separate these products quickly, and none of them needs a price.
- Check the launch date on Pokemon.com. June 27, 2025 is the Special Collection; February 20, 2026 is the Mega Charizard Tin. A listing that gives the Special Collection a 2026 date is contradicting the official gallery.
- Count the packs. The Special Collection holds 5 packs and the tin holds 4. The Paldean Fates Tin holds 5, so pack count alone does not separate the Special Collection from that tin; the promo does.
- Read the promo. An etched Charizard ex promo plus an oversize lenticular card means the Special Collection. Mega Charizard X ex or Y ex means the Mega Charizard Tin. Shiny Charizard ex means the Paldean Fates Tin.
- Read the Japanese card number. Japanese numbers print as card/set total, for example 134/108 or 116/080. The denominator alone does not identify a set, so read the set code together with the collector number.
For how to read the rest of a Japanese card, see Japanese vs English Pokemon cards.

Frequently Asked Questions
When did the Charizard ex Special Collection release?
Pokemon.com lists the launch as June 27, 2025. PokeBeach reported an April 11 date in January 2025, but the official product page carries June 27, 2025, so that is the date to use. As of September 29, 2026, no 2026-dated product with this name appears in the gallery.
What is in the Charizard ex Special Collection?
The official page lists one etched foil promo card featuring Charizard ex, two foil cards featuring Charmander and Charmeleon, five Pokémon TCG booster packs, one oversize lenticular card, and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. The Charizard ex is described as a Darkness-type Pokémon.
How much does the Charizard ex Special Collection cost?
Pokemon.com does not state a price for the Charizard ex Special Collection. ICv2 reported a retail price on May 27, 2025, which is a media report and not an official MSRP. Marketplace prices vary by seller and are not comparable to any launch price, so check each listing carefully.
Is there a 2026 Charizard ex Special Collection?
Not on Pokemon.com as of September 29, 2026. The gallery lists 2026 products and none carries this name; a marketplace listing calling it a "2026 reprint" is not supported by the official page. The official 2026 Charizard product is the Mega Charizard Tin, launched February 20, 2026.
What is in the Mega Charizard Tin?
The tin holds four Pokémon TCG booster packs, one foil promo card featuring Mega Charizard X ex or Mega Charizard Y ex, and a code card for Pokémon TCG Live. Pokemon.com shows a launch of February 20, 2026 and does not print the promo number.
Is there a Japanese version of the Charizard ex Special Collection?
No official source names one. PokeBeach reported in January 2025 that the Darkness Charizard ex promo has a Japanese source in the Charizard ex and Chien-Pao ex Battle Master Decks, but Pokemon.com does not confirm it. Japanese Charizard ex cards exist in SV2a, SV3 and SV4a as separate cards.
How many Japanese Mega Charizard X ex cards are there?
The official Japanese database lists four in M2 Inferno X: 013/080, 094/080, 110/080 and 116/080, plus one in M2a MEGA Dream ex, 223/193 MA. That makes five prints, with rarities RR, SR, SAR, MUR and MA. Mega Charizard Y ex adds two more in the Battle Collection.
