CP2 is the Japanese-language abbreviation used for Concept Pack: Legendary Shine Collection (コンセプトパック 传説キラコレクション), released in Japan on July 18, 2015. It’s part of a run of standalone “concept pack” products that Japanese Pokemon TCG issued alongside the main expansion schedule — smaller sets built around a single idea rather than a full 100-plus card block.
CP2’s idea was legendary and mythical Pokemon, timed to the theatrical release of Pokemon the Movie XY: The Archdjinni of the Rings — Hoopa, that summer’s 18th Pokemon film. The two RR-rarity Hoopa-EX and Pikachu-EX slots sit at the top of the rarity ladder, but the legendary lineup at R rarity — Reshiram, Palkia, Zekrom, Dialga, Latias, Latios, both Kyurem forms, Regigigas, and Arceus — is where most collectors focus, since the shine treatment makes even a common-rarity CP2 card look closer to a modern holo than a base-set filler.
The All-Holo Shine Treatment and the Four-Card Pack
CP2’s defining feature isn’t any single card — it’s that every card in the set carries a gloss coating and special holo foil treatment, regardless of printed rarity. A 001/027 common gets the same shine finish as the 008/027 Pikachu-EX. That’s unusual for a Japanese set of this era, where holo treatment is normally reserved for R-and-above slots.
The other structural quirk is pack size. CP2 packs contain four cards, not the five found in standard Japanese boosters — a trade-off that comes with the all-holo format, since every card in every pack is a foil card rather than a mix of foil and non-foil.

Black Kyurem 020/027 and the 1st Edition Question
Black Kyurem is 020/027, a Dragon-type Rare, sitting alongside its counterpart White Kyurem at 021/027 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). Our currently listed copy carries a 1st Edition stamp.
The 1st Edition question on CP2 is worth being precise about. 1st Edition–marked CP2 boxes and singles — Black Kyurem included — do turn up in secondary-market listings from specialty dealers and marketplaces. What we haven’t found is a Pokemon Company announcement or a Bulbapedia reference formally defining a 1st Edition print run for CP2 the way that term is used for early English-language sets. So the short version: 1st Edition CP2 cards are something you can confirm exist in the secondary market, but the official print-run distinction behind that stamp isn’t something we can point to a primary source for.
