Between the big numbered expansions of Japan’s XY era, Pokémon ran a second, smaller product line on the side — six of them, released roughly every few months from January 2015 through September 2016. They’re called Concept Packs, shortened to “CP” and numbered CP1 through CP6, and they’re where some of the era’s most expensive singles actually live, including the single highest-priced card in our current Japanese 1st Edition inventory.
This guide is the hub for the whole CP line: what a Concept Pack is, the six releases in order, how each one differs in size and theme, where the 1st Edition (1ED) stamp does and doesn’t apply, and our current in-stock ladder across the CP2–CP6 sets we carry singles from. Six CP-numbered Concept Packs exist — CP1 through CP6, spanning January 2015 to September 2016. Our current CP singles ladder tops out with a Flareon EX RR 1ED from Pokékyun Collection (CP3), currently listed at ¥804,388 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), and includes CP2’s Zekrom, currently listed at ¥92,700 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order). What Is a Concept Pack?
Alongside its mainline numbered expansions, Japan’s Pokémon TCG has periodically released smaller, standalone side sets under the label “コンセプトパック” (Concept Pack). Between January 2015 and September 2016, six of these were released in sequence — CP1 through CP6 — each built around its own theme rather than slotting into the regular expansion numbering.
They vary a lot in size and format. Some run under 30 cards; CP4 runs past 130. Several use non-standard pack configurations — a 4-card pack instead of 5, or a 10-card pack with a guaranteed hit — instead of the usual mainline booster structure. What ties them together is the “CP” label and the fact that they sat outside the main set-by-set collecting path, which is part of why several of them carry outsized prices relative to their card count today.
The CP1–CP6 Timeline

Three packs land roughly six months apart across 2015–early 2016 (CP1–CP3), then the pace tightens to every two to three months from spring through September 2016 (CP4–CP6), closing out with the 20th Anniversary set. Based on the sources we used to build this guide, the line stops at CP6 — we found no confirmed CP7 or later release.
CP1: Double Crisis
The line opened on January 30, 2015 with Double Crisis, a 34-card set. We don’t currently carry singles from this pack, so there’s no in-stock ladder entry for CP1 in this guide — it’s included here for the timeline and to keep the CP1–CP6 picture complete.
CP2: Legendary Shine Collection
Released July 18, 2015 to coincide with the Japanese theatrical release of The Archdjinni of the Rings: Hoopa, Legendary Shine Collection is a 27-card set built around Legendary and Mythical Pokémon tied to that film. Every card in the set carries a gloss-coated, specialty holofoil treatment, and packs come 4 cards instead of the usual 5.

CP3: Pokékyun Collection
Released January 29, 2016, Pokékyun Collection is a compact 32-card set, and it’s also the deepest CP represented in our current inventory — our ladder includes everything from the Flareon EX RR 1ED, currently listed at ¥804,388 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), the top entry across the entire CP line, down to more affordable singles like Jirachi U 1ED, currently listed at ¥36,874 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order).

CP4: Premium Champion Pack
Premium Champion Pack, released April 16, 2016, is the biggest set in the line by far — 131 numbered cards plus unnumbered Energy cards. It’s a retrospective set for the XY BREAK era’s three headline card types — Pokémon-EX, Mega Pokémon-EX, and Pokémon-BREAK — combining reprints with some new cards. Every card uses a reverse mirror holofoil finish with no printed rarity symbol, and packs run 10 cards instead of 5, with one EX, BREAK, or Mega-EX guaranteed per pack.

CP5: Mythical & Legendary Dream Shine Collection
Released July 16, 2016 alongside the Japanese theatrical release of Volcanion and the Mechanical Marvel, this 38-card set (36 base numbers plus two secret-rare additions) continues the Legendary Shine Collection’s all-gloss, specialty holofoil treatment — this time with no printed rarity symbols. It centers on the Mythical Pokémon from the 20th-anniversary “Mythical Collection” campaign, plus Volcanion and a full-art Magearna.

CP6: Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary
The line closed on September 16, 2016 with Expansion Pack 20th Anniversary — a tribute to 1996’s original Base Set, rebuilt with current-era rules and new artwork for Charizard, Venusaur, Blastoise, Mewtwo, and the rest of the original cast, several of them recast as Mega Evolution cards. The main numbering runs to 87, and secret rares push the highest confirmed card number to 103.
A separate, non-CP product called the 20th Anniversary Starter Pack came out seven months earlier, on February 27, 2016, with its own 72-card numbering. Some retailers label it “XY-20th” — that’s a retail shorthand, not an official CP set code, and it’s a different product from CP6. Our M Charizard EX [XY-20th 011/072], currently listed at ¥142,408, comes from that separate Starter Pack, not from CP6.

The CP Line and 1st Edition
Japanese 1st Edition (1ED) stamps and the CP line overlap for most of the series’ run. CP6 is the confirmed final Japanese set to carry a 1st Edition print — its secret-rare cards, including the M Venusaur EX SR above, are documented in 1ED form. CP3’s ladder is built almost entirely from 1ED singles, and both CP2 and CP5 have confirmed 1ED cards in our current stock, including the Black Kyurem and Celebi shown above.
Not every CP has confirmed 1ED coverage in our records — our current CP4 listing, for instance, isn’t a 1ED copy. CP3 makes up more than half this list, which lines up with it being both a compact set and one of the last to carry the 1ED stamp before it retired with CP6 — a natural focal point for a CP-specific collection. CP1 has no entry here since we don’t currently carry singles from that pack.
