30th CELEBRATION (M6a) released worldwide on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, and its Special Art Rare block gives Gengar ex its own slot at 131/103 — one of ten Pokémon ex printed with the set’s special-art treatment. Since the set is out, the two most useful questions to answer with sources are what PSA is actually checking when it grades a copy, and what a comparable PSA 10 Gengar currently costs on our site.
This guide sticks to sourced material: PSA’s own published grading language, the card’s official text, dated SNKRDUNK asking prices since release, and the PSA 10 Gengar prints currently listed on samuraiswordtokyo.com. It does not predict a grade for any individual card.
Gengar ex 131/103 is a Special Art Rare Darkness-type Stage 2 Pokémon with 280 HP. Its illustrator is not published (AR/SAR illustrators are unpublished for this set). The lowest SNKRDUNK ask for the ungraded card moved from ¥5,400 on September 16 to ¥7,000 on September 18, 2026. What Is Gengar ex SAR 131/103?
Gengar ex 131/103 is the Special Art Rare printing of Gengar ex in 30th CELEBRATION (M6a). The SAR block runs 124–133, one card for each of the set’s ten Pokémon ex, and 131 is Gengar’s slot. The regular, non-special-art printing of the same card sits at 076/103, credited to 5ban Graphics in the official card database. Neither the AR nor the SAR illustrators are published for this set, so we cannot name who painted 131/103 — the only named exceptions in the secret-rare block are the two FUR cards, 134 Mewtwo ex and 135 Mew ex, both credited to YOSHIROTTEN. Gengar has no FUR print in this set.
Per PokeBeach’s September 9, 2026 translation, the card reads: Gengar ex, Darkness type, HP 280, Stage 2 (Evolves from Haunter). Ability — Fainting Spell: if this Pokémon is Knocked Out by damage from an attack from your opponent’s Pokémon, flip a coin; if heads, the Attacking Pokémon is Knocked Out. Attack — [D][D] Chaotic Pain: place 13 damage counters on 1 of your opponent’s Pokémon. Weakness Fighting (×2), no listed Resistance, Retreat 2. As with every Pokémon ex in this set, if it’s Knocked Out, the opponent takes two Prize cards instead of one. Gengar ex appears in this set as the regular print at 076/103 and this SAR at 131/103; a separate Gengar (Prime) Classic Collection reprint sits at 150/103. This guide covers only the SAR.
What PSA Actually Checks for a Gem Mint 10
PSA’s Grading Standards page defines its top grade this way:
“A PSA Gem Mint 10 card is a virtually perfect card. Attributes include four perfectly sharp corners, sharp focus and full original gloss. A PSA Gem Mint 10 card must be free of staining of any kind, but an allowance may be made for a slight printing imperfection, if it doesn’t impair the overall appeal of the card. The image must be centered on the card within a tolerance not to exceed approximately 55/45 percent on the front, and 75/25 percent on the reverse.”
The same page adds a footnote on how strictly that centering line is applied: “Centering Note: At the grader’s sole discretion, a small variance may be permitted on occasion based on the card’s overall eye appeal.”
PSA also describes grading as partly objective and partly judgment-based: “While it’s true that a large part of grading is objective (locating print defects, staining, surface wrinkles, measuring centering, etc.), the other component of grading is somewhat subjective. The best way to define the subjective element is to do so by posing a question: What will the market accept for this particular issue?” And: “the graders reserve the right, based on the strength or weakness of the eye appeal, to make a judgment call on the grade of a particular card.”
Before a card is graded at all, PSA authenticates it: “Authentication is the process of verifying the originality or genuineness of a trading card. Grading is assessing the quality and condition of a trading card using PSA’s 10-point grading scale. Grading can only take place after a trading card has been deemed authentic.” The three steps: “Step 1 Authentication — A series of PSA graders review your cards for authenticity. If genuine, PSA looks for evidence of doctoring, such as re-coloring or trimming.” “Step 2 Grading — If your cards pass authentication, PSA grades the condition of each card on a scale of 1-10, with 10 being best.” “Step 3 Encapsulation — PSA encapsulates each card in its own sonically sealed, tamper-evident case. The card’s grade and certification number are displayed on the PSA LightHouse™ label.”
Our own condition guide breaks the same four attributes down for readers new to grading: centering (“how evenly the printed image sits within the card’s border, front and back”), corners (“sharpness of all four corners — a Gem Mint 10 requires all four to be perfectly sharp”), edges (“condition of the card’s cut edges, checked for whitening, chipping, or roughness”) and surface (“gloss, print quality, and freedom from staining, scratches, or print defects”). PSA publishes definitions for each grade on its Grading Standards page; this guide quotes only the Gem Mint 10 definition. None of this is specific to Gengar ex 131/103 — it’s the same standard applied to every card PSA grades, and we cannot tell you in advance how a specific copy will grade.
Is the SAR Finish Textured? What’s Known and What Isn’t
Collectors sometimes ask whether a Special Art Rare card’s surface is textured or embossed, since that could matter for how a copy grades on surface and gloss. We could not find an official statement that the M6a SAR block, specifically, has a raised or textured finish.
The closest official language we found describes a different rarity from an earlier era: a Sun & Moon–period page about Super Rare (SR) cards says the card has “特別な加工” (“a special finish”) applied to it. Two illustrator interviews about the AR/SAR block in a different set, VSTAR Universe, describe using “gold-foil texture” and glass-like effects in the artwork — but those are comments about the illustration style, not an official statement that the printed card itself is physically textured. Neither source confirms a texture claim for 30th CELEBRATION’s SAR cards specifically, so we are not printing one for Gengar ex 131/103.
What that means for grading: the corners, focus, gloss, staining and centering checks PSA applies — grouped above as centering, corners, edges and surface — apply to whatever finish the card actually has, whether or not that finish is textured.

30th CELEBRATION’s official card database covers the main set 001–103, the Classic Collection 136–165 and the eight Basic Energy — 140 entries in total. The AR/SAR/FUR block, 104–135, is compiled from official images and marketplace listings and is still not in the official database as of September 18, 2026. Within that block, SAR 124–133 covers all ten Pokémon ex, and Gengar ex sits at 131.

PokeBeach reported, from an official box opening shown before release, that one 20-pack box contained 20 of the set’s 30 Pikachu cards, 2 Classic Collection cards, 4 Illustration Rares, 1 Special Illustration Rare and 1 Futuristic Rare (Mew or Mewtwo ex). The Pokémon Company has not published pull rates for any tier, and one reported opening does not establish a rate.
