The Card: Luigi Pikachu 295/XY-P & 296/XY-P
Luigi Pikachu (ルイージピカチュウ) is a Basic, Lightning-type Pokemon card with 80 HP. Its two attacks are direct references to Super Mario gameplay rather than standard Pokemon move names: Coin Gather, a coin-flip-based attack, and Super Dash, which does 60 damage but costs the user 20 damage in recoil. Both prints were illustrated by Kouki Saitou, who also illustrated the sibling Mario Pikachu pair released the same day.

Both Luigi Pikachu prints came out of the same box on the same day, so there is no earlier-or-later story here — 295/XY-P and 296/XY-P are two parallel treatments of one card, not an original and a reprint.

The Luigi Pikachu Special BOX and Its 2016 Release
Both Luigi Pikachu prints came exclusively from the Luigi Pikachu Special BOX, sold nationwide at Japanese Pokemon Center stores on 29 October 2016 for ¥1,500 before tax. It was a plain retail purchase while supplies lasted — no lottery, no application process. Each box contained one 295/XY-P premium kira, one 296/XY-P full art, a deck case, sleeves, and a card storage box.
The Luigi box released alongside a separate SKU, the Mario Pikachu Special BOX, containing 293/XY-P and 294/XY-P — same illustrator, same release day, same box format, different Mario Bros. costume. Both boxes were part of a wider 20th Anniversary Festa Mario/Pokemon crossover merchandise wave that also included plush toys, a Nintendo 3DS LL case, and playing cards.
