Pokemon 151 Booster Box Buying Guide: Japanese SV2a Box Prices 2026

Pokemon 151 Booster Box Buying Guide: Japanese SV2a Box Prices 2026

The Pokemon 151 booster box (SV2a, Japanese) belongs to a set released in Japan on June 16, 2023, and three years on the sealed box still carries a lowest ask of ¥42,500 (~$276) on SNKRDUNK as of October 2, 2026. The set brought the original 151 Kanto Pokemon back as full-art secret rares, and the Pokemon Card site published a notice on June 13, 2023 that the pack would be sold made-to-order through Pokemon Center Online.

The concept behind the set is simple and part of why it still moves: SV2a is built entirely around the original 151-Pokemon Kanto Pokedex (収録される初代151匹), with the secret-rarity run giving many first-generation Pokemon a modern full-art treatment alongside the base checklist. That single-generation focus — rather than a mixed regional lineup — is a big part of why the set reads as a complete, self-contained collecting project rather than one piece of a larger release.

Key Takeaways

Pokemon Card 151 (SV2a) is a 210-card set per the official card database — 165 numbered /165 plus a 45-card secret-rarity run (18 AR, 16 SR, 8 SAR, 3 UR). Each pack holds 7 cards at an official ¥290 (~$2); the official page prints no pack count per box and no box price. The Sealed option of the box is listed at ¥44,502 (~$289) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) as of October 1, 2026, and SNKRDUNK’s lowest ask for the sealed box was ¥42,500 (~$276) on October 2, 2026. The headline pulls are the starter-trio SAR cards (Venusaur ex, Charizard ex, Blastoise ex, #200–202), Mew ex — printed as RR, SR, SAR and one of the set’s three URs — and Erika’s Invitation SAR.

What’s Inside a Pokemon 151 Booster Box

Pokemon Card 151 is officially a 強化拡張パック (Enhanced Expansion Pack), released in Japan on June 16, 2023 and built entirely around the original 151-strong Kanto Pokedex. Each pack retails at ¥290 (~$2) tax included and holds 7 cards. The official product page prints neither the number of packs in a box nor a box price.

The official card database lists 210 cards for the set. Numbers #1–165 are the base checklist (66 Common, 62 Uncommon, 25 Rare and 12 Double Rare icons), with #165 (サイクリングロード, an Uncommon) the last standard-rarity card. From #166 onward the set moves into its secret-rarity run — 45 cards across four tiers, all the way to #210:

Rarity Card Numbers Count
AR #166–183 18
SR #184–199 16
SAR #200–207 8
UR #208–210 3

The 18-card AR tier (#166–183) runs in strict numerical order and is a full-art rework of early Kanto favorites, per the official card database as of October 1, 2026:

No. Pokemon No. Pokemon
166 Bulbasaur 175 Psyduck
167 Ivysaur 176 Poliwhirl
168 Charmander 177 Machoke
169 Charmeleon 178 Tangela
170 Squirtle 179 Mr. Mime
171 Wartortle 180 Omanyte
172 Caterpie 181 Snorlax
173 Pikachu 182 Dragonair
174 Nidoking 183 Mewtwo

The AR tier stops at Mewtwo (#183) — the three starter final evolutions (Venusaur, Charizard, Blastoise) get no AR printing at all. Instead they appear twice each further down the checklist, in the SR tier and again in the SAR tier.

The SR tier (#184–199) is where the ex cards and Trainer supporters start, and SAR (#200–207) reprints six of those twelve ex cards and two of the four Trainer cards in the premium alternate-art finish. The three URs (#208–210) top the checklist: Mew ex, the Switch Trainer card (ポケモンいれかえ in the database), and a Basic Psychic Energy (基本超エネルギー).

On top of the numbered secret rarities, SV2a’s regular Common, Uncommon and Rare cards also come with a Pokeball-pattern mirror finish. The official page describes a モンスターボール柄 mirror treatment; the rarer マスターボール柄 (Master Ball pattern) mirror is the name SNKRDUNK and our product titles use. The official database keeps one row per number, so a card such as 094/165 covers the standard print and both mirror finishes. Pull rates are not published by The Pokemon Company: the official page states only that cards are inserted at random.

The Pokemon Card site also lists two card file sets at ¥2,200 (~$14) each, tax included, released the same day as the main set: three promo cards (Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle), a card file, five 151 packs and a catalogue poster. They are separate products from the booster box.

Top 10 Pokemon 151 Cards by SNKRDUNK Ask

The ten SV2a numbers with the highest lowest asking price on SNKRDUNK as of October 2, 2026 are mostly Master Ball mirror prints of base-set cards, plus two SAR cards. SNKRDUNK’s own sealed-box listing showed a lowest ask of ¥42,500 (~$276), and its separate no-shrink box listing showed ¥43,999 (~$286) — the no-shrink ask sat above the shrink-sealed one that day.

1. Gengar 094/165 (R), Master Ball Mirror. The lowest raw ask was ¥75,000 (~$487) and the PSA 10 ask ¥164,000 (~$1,065). It is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥146,487 (~$951) — sourced to order; the product page shows the current terms. The Monster Ball mirror of the same number is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥56,610 (~$368). The number-level write-up is Gengar R Master Ball Mirror 094/165.

2. Pikachu 025/165 (C), Master Ball Mirror. A Common that ranks second on its finish alone: lowest raw ask ¥48,000 (~$312), PSA 10 ask ¥74,000 (~$481). The PSA 10 slab is listed at ¥77,826 (~$505), and the Monster Ball mirror is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥20,810 (~$135).

3. Charizard ex 201/165 (SAR). Illustrated by miki kudo per the official database, with a lowest raw ask of ¥43,000 (~$279) and a PSA 10 ask of ¥76,500 (~$497). The linked back order sits at ¥78,743 (~$511); the other SV2a Charizard ex prints are covered in Charizard 151 Japanese PSA 10 Pokemon Guide.

Chase Cards Worth Pulling

The cards collectors chase out of a Pokemon 151 box sit in the SR, SAR and UR tiers — and six of the set’s twelve SR-tier ex cards, plus two of its four SR-tier Trainer cards, are printed a second time in the SAR tier. The same Pokemon can land in your box twice, at two different rarities:

Card SR No. SAR No. SAR illustrator Other
Venusaur ex 184 200 Yoriyuki Ikegami —
Charizard ex 185 201 miki kudo —
Blastoise ex 186 202 Mitsuhiro Arita —

Mew ex 195 205 Natsumi Yoshida UR #208 (aky CG Works)
Erika’s Invitation 196 206 Cona Nitanda —
Giovanni’s Charisma 197 207 Hideki Ishikawa —

Mew ex appears at four rarities in the official card database: RR (#151), SR (#195), SAR (#205) and UR (#208). The six SR-tier cards without an SAR reprint — Arbok ex (#187), Ninetales ex (#188), Wigglytuff ex (#189), Golem ex (#191), Kangaskhan ex (#192) and Jynx ex (#193) — along with Trainer cards Daisy’s Help (#198) and Bill’s Teleport (#199), stay as single SR-only pulls.

The starter-trio SAR run — Venusaur ex (#200), Charizard ex (#201) and Blastoise ex (#202) — is the headline of the set. PSA 10 back orders are offered for the trio at these prices: Venusaur ex ¥23,041 (~$150), Charizard ex ¥78,743 (~$511) and Blastoise ex ¥28,722 (~$187).

The Mew ex SR (#195) is the Super Rare printing of Mew ex, illustrated by aky CG Works, alongside its SAR (#205) and UR (#208) counterparts. Its SAR is offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥57,282 (~$372) and its UR at ¥16,830 (~$109). Bill’s Teleport (#199), illustrated by GIDORA, is one of the set’s four Trainer-card Super Rares and, along with Daisy’s Help, is one of the two that never got promoted to SAR.

Two Trainer SARs complete the premium list: Erika’s Invitation SAR (#206), offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥21,823 (~$142), and Giovanni’s Charisma SAR (#207), at ¥14,279 (~$93). The three URs that top the checklist are Mew ex (#208), the Switch Trainer card (#209) and a Basic Psychic Energy (#210). Singles by number and restock requests for a specific card go through Quick Order; the back-order terms are explained in Back Order a PSA 10 Card from Japan: How It Works.

Current Box Pricing

A sealed box lets you open packs yourself and chase the SR, SAR and UR run directly. If your goal is a specific number rather than the box-opening experience, a PSA 10 back order for that number is the other route, and the ¥2,200 (~$14) card file sets are the lowest-cost official way in if you only want the three starter promos. Still in Demand: The Made-to-Order Reprint

The Pokemon Card site published a notice titled 「強化拡張パック「ポケモンカード151」受注生産の決定につきまして」, listed with the date June 13, 2023, announcing that the Enhanced Expansion Pack “Pokemon Card 151” would be sold 受注生産 (made-to-order) through Pokemon Center Online — production built to order rather than a standard pre-built print run. The notice itself gives no order window, quantity or ship date.

The official news lists for 2023 through 2026 show no later reprint or restock notice for SV2a as of October 2, 2026, so the made-to-order notice is the only official statement on the pack’s supply. Official reprint notices across current sets are collected in Pokemon Card Restock Tracker: Official Japan Reprint Notices.

Pokemon 151 vs Other Japanese Boxes

Pokemon 151 isn’t the only Japanese box worth chasing. Direct comparisons set it against a newer or cheaper option (the Chinese-language 151 release is separated from SV2a in Chinese 151 vs Japanese Pokemon 151): Pokemon 151 vs Terastal Festival box guide, Eevee Heroes vs Pokemon 151 box guide, Pokemon 151 vs Shiny Treasure ex box guide and Pokemon 151 vs VSTAR Universe box guide. Each walks through box economics and chase-card lineups side by side.

The two other Japanese box guides in the same series carry their own official numbers and dated asks: Eevee Heroes Booster Box Guide (S6a) and VSTAR Universe Booster Box Guide (S12a). Card-by-card breakdowns of what comes out of a box are in SV2a Pokemon 151 best cards and Pokemon Card 151 best cards. What’s inside a Pokemon 151 booster box?

Each pack holds 7 cards at an official ¥290 (~$2) retail price. The official product page prints neither a pack count per box nor a box price. The official card database lists 210 cards: 165 numbered /165 plus a 45-card secret run (18 AR, 16 SR, 8 SAR, 3 UR).

How much does a Pokemon 151 Japanese booster box cost?

Samurai Sword Tokyo lists the Sealed option at ¥44,502 (~$289) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) as of October 1, 2026. The Damaged Box at ¥44,041 (~$286) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) is a separate product, not an option of the Sealed listing. Are Pokemon 151 pull rates published?

No. The Pokemon Company does not publish pull rates for Pokemon Card 151; the official product page states only that cards are inserted at random. Any per-box figure for Master Ball mirrors or secret rares that circulates in the community is unofficial, so treat it as an estimate.

How does Pokemon 151 compare to other Japanese boxes?

It depends on budget and which chase cards you want. Direct comparisons against Terastal Festival, Eevee Heroes, Shiny Treasure ex and VSTAR Universe set the box economics and chase-card lineups side by side, and the Eevee Heroes and VSTAR Universe box guides carry their own official numbers and dated asks.
