What a PSA 10 Label Tells You

PSA’s own grading standards page describes the top grade this way: “A PSA Gem Mint 10 card is a virtually perfect card. Attributes include four perfectly sharp corners, sharp focus and full original gloss.” It adds that the card must be free of staining of any kind, with an allowance for a slight printing imperfection that does not impair the overall appeal, and that centering must be within a tolerance not to exceed approximately 55/45 percent on the front and 75/25 percent on the reverse.

That is a description of one slabbed card in hand, not a forecast about a raw card. Buying an already graded copy means the grade is printed on the label, together with a certification number, in a tamper-evident case. Our PSA 10 meaning guide covers the scale in more detail, and the PSA 9 vs PSA 10 article sets the two top grades side by side.

How to Read the Listing Names

A listing title such as “PSA10 Genesect ex SR [SV11B 164/086]” carries four facts: the grade (PSA10), the card name (Genesect ex), the rarity code (SR) and the set code with card number (SV11B 164/086). The text in quotation marks after the bracket is the English rendering of the pack name.

Some titles, such as Melony 274/184 SR, give the number and rarity but not a set code. In those rows the product page and the slab label are the reference. Our guide to reading Japanese Pokemon cards explains card numbers, and the textured cards article covers which rarities carry surface texture.

The Random PSA 10 listing at ¥6,000 (~$39) (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) is a one-card bulk listing; no card is named, so it is not a substitute for choosing a specific print. For the label itself, see PSA Japan: label and service explained.
