Every so often a card’s backstory matters as much as the artwork on it. Yuu Nishida’s does: her very first Pokemon TCG credit came from a competition entry that won the Pokemon Card Game Illustration Grand Prix and was printed as a promo card carrying the contest’s own logo. That win produced her debut card, and the rest of her verified catalog since — from a Championship Series stadium card to a secret rare Professor’s Research — followed it.
One housekeeping note before anything else: Yuu Nishida (西田ユウ) is not Atsuko Nishida (にしだあつこ), the artist who originally designed Pikachu. They share a surname and nothing else that any source documents — separate people, separate Bulbapedia pages, separate card catalogs. If you’re researching the Pikachu design lineage, our Atsuko Nishida guide is the one you want; this article covers Yuu Nishida’s TCG illustration work only.
This guide walks through Nishida’s Illustration Grand Prix win, the contest-winning Gardevoir that became her debut card, her run of character-support illustrations for Trainers like Shauna and Dawn, and every Yuu Nishida card currently sitting in our PSA 10 vault — five in stock, one currently out.
Yuu Nishida is a freelance illustrator whose professional illustration career began in 2017 and took off after she won the Pokemon Card Game Illustration Grand Prix, with the winning artwork printed as her debut card, Gardevoir SM-P 408. Not to be confused with Atsuko Nishida, the original Pikachu character designer. We currently carry five Yuu Nishida PSA 10 cards in stock, led by Celebrate Fanfare M-P 033 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order), currently listed at ¥76,529.
Who Is Yuu Nishida?
Yuu Nishida is a freelance Pokemon TCG illustrator whose professional career began in 2017. She works part-time as an art teacher at her former high school, and her tools of choice are a touchscreen tablet and Clip Studio Paint. She came to Pokemon as a fan first, through Pokemon FireRed and the movie Jirachi: Wish Maker; her favorite generation is Gen V, and her favorite Pokemon is Yamask.
As noted above, Nishida is a different person from Atsuko Nishida, the illustrator who designed Pikachu’s original look. No source documents any relationship between the two — the shared surname is, as far as the record shows, coincidence. If you came here looking for the Pikachu design story, see our separate Atsuko Nishida guide instead.
On card databases, Nishida’s footprint reads as a steadily built catalog. Limitless’ English-language search returns 70 TCG cards under her name, with none from Pokemon Trading Card Game Pocket. The Japanese-language database, which counts individual reprints separately, returns 111 prints. Bulbapedia’s own tally credits her with 69 TCG cards and 28 TCG Pocket cards — a separate count that shouldn’t be added to the Limitless totals, since the two sources track different things in different ways.
What ties the catalog together isn’t a single visual signature so much as a role: Nishida’s verified list leans heavily toward Trainer character cards — Shauna, Dawn, Cheryl, Klara, Worker, Dancer — alongside a run of Eeveelution and Legendary illustrations. That pattern shows up again and again across the in-stock cards below.
From Contest Winner to Professional: The Gardevoir Debut
Nishida’s first Pokemon TCG card didn’t come from a publisher assignment. She won the Pokemon Card Game Illustration Grand Prix, and the winning piece of art became Gardevoir, printed as SM-P 408 — a promo card that carries the Illustration Grand Prix logo directly on its face as a mark of the win. The card was distributed starting October 4, 2019, given to customers who purchased five or more booster packs at participating Pokemon Centers.
That’s the full, verifiable shape of the story: she entered, she won, the winning Gardevoir became her debut card. We don’t have sourcing on contest placements, prize structure, or ceremony details beyond that, so we’re not going to speculate about them here — the win and the card it produced are the part of the story that’s documented and that matters for collectors.
Her regular, ongoing TCG illustration work began shortly after with Celebi, printed in Shining Fates as card 3 — the transition from one-off contest prize to working illustrator with a recurring credit line. From there her catalog builds outward into the Trainer and Eeveelution cards covered below.
Celebrate Fanfare: A Championship Series Stadium Card

Celebrate Fanfare, printed as M-P 033 in Japan’s Mega Promos line, is a Stadium card rather than a Pokemon illustration — and it’s the highest-value Nishida card we currently hold, listed at ¥76,529. The same artwork has appeared across several other promo codes, including S-P 254, SV-P 110 and 174, and the English-language Mega Promos 28.
Our own inventory records list this specific copy as Championship Series 2025 tournament merchandise, distributed to players who finished with 30–79 Championship Points. That distribution detail comes from our inventory data rather than an independently verified external source — Limitless confirms the card and the artist, but we haven’t re-verified the tournament-merchandise story against a second source, so we’re presenting it as inventory-sourced rather than as an independently confirmed fact.
Celebrate Fanfare M-P 033 is currently listed on the site (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) for anyone building out a Nishida run or a Championship Series promo collection specifically.
Character Cards in Stock: Altaria, Shauna, Dawn, Professor’s Research
Beyond the Stadium card, four more Nishida illustrations are currently in our PSA 10 vault, and three of them are Trainer character cards — a category she returns to often.

Altaria, a Character Holo Rare from Incandescent Arcana (S11a 074/068), is listed at ¥10,134. A different Altaria print — the S12a 194 Art Rare (EN: CRZ GG19) — belongs to Asako Ito, covered in our Asako Ito illustrator guide; the two artists’ Altaria cards are easy to confuse, so check the set code before you buy.
Shauna, a Secret Rare from Blue Sky Stream (S7R 077/067), is listed at ¥17,921 — the second-highest in-stock Nishida card we carry. Dawn, a Secret Rare from Inferno X (M2 106/080), is listed at ¥7,585. Worth flagging for anyone cross-referencing sets: Inferno X also contains a different Dawn Secret Art Rare at 115/080, but that print is credited to a different artist entirely, so the two shouldn’t be confused — the 106/080 print here is the one that’s Nishida’s work.

Professor’s Research, a Secret Rare from VMAX Climax (S8b 266/184), is listed at ¥8,240. There’s a nice bit of continuity on this one: Nishida also illustrated the booster pack artwork for VMAX Climax itself, so the same artist behind the pack art also drew the card inside.
Sylveon V SA: Currently Out of Stock
Sylveon V, a Secret Rare Special Art print from Eevee Heroes (S6a 083/069), was last listed at ¥47,585 and is currently out of stock. The same artwork was also printed in the English-language Evolving Skies set as an Ultra Rare (EVS 184). If Sylveon V SA is the card you’re after, the Quick Order page is the way to flag a restock request so we know to prioritize sourcing a fresh PSA 10 copy.
Beyond the Cards: Nishida’s Wider Work
Nishida’s Pokemon-related work extends past single-card illustration. She illustrated the booster pack artwork for VMAX Climax, the set that also contains her Professor’s Research secret rare in our vault. She also contributed bonus art to Pokemon feat. Hatsune Miku “Project VOLTAGE,” a crossover project pairing Pokemon with the virtual singer.
Away from Pokemon, she works part-time as an art teacher at her former high school — a detail that sits alongside her freelance illustration career rather than replacing it. Her stated influences and preferences give a sense of the fan-turned-professional arc: she became a Pokemon fan through Pokemon FireRed and the film Jirachi: Wish Maker, and to this day her favorite generation is Gen V and her favorite Pokemon is Yamask.
We don’t have verified details on her birth date, agency, location, or social media presence, so we’re leaving those out entirely rather than guessing. What’s documented and worth remembering is the shape of the career: a contest win that became a debut card, a growing run of Trainer and Eeveelution illustrations, and pack-art and crossover credits alongside the card catalog.
