The most overlooked slot in a Pokémon booster pack just became a design statement.
The Japanese 30th CELEBRATION expansion (M6a) released worldwide on September 16, 2026, and every pack contains one guaranteed Basic Energy card — all eight 30th Celebration Basic Energy cards carry artwork by YOSHIROTTEN, the Tokyo graphic artist behind the set’s FUR (Futuristic Rare) chase cards. The official product page puts it plainly: each pack includes one Basic Energy, and these too are a special design by YOSHIROTTEN.
These are Basic Energy cards with a special design — the official page does not call them Special Energy, which is a different card category in the game’s mechanics.
All 8 Basic Energy types — Grass, Fire, Water, Lightning, Psychic, Fighting, Darkness and Metal — carry YOSHIROTTEN artwork in 30th CELEBRATION, with one guaranteed per pack. The 8 are listed in the official card database (no collection number, illustrator YOSHIROTTEN), published September 9, 2026. Our M6a 30th CELEBRATION Booster Box holds these energies. For anniversary sealed product, the Japanese S8a 25th Anniversary Collection booster box is the closest anniversary precedent.

One Foil Energy Per Pack: What Is Officially Confirmed
As printed on the official M6a product page (August 30, 2026):
- One Basic Energy card is guaranteed in every pack, and the energies are a special design by YOSHIROTTEN. The official Japanese wording is unambiguous: «各パックにつき1枚、基本エネルギーが確定で封入!これらもYOSHIROTTEN氏による特別デザインだ!»
- All eight Basic Energy types are pictured on the product page: Grass, Fire, Water, Lightning, Psychic, Fighting, Darkness and Metal.
- Every pack contains 6 foil cards (キラカード6枚入り) at ¥360 tax-in; a box is 20 packs at ¥7,200 (~$47).
- Released 16 September 2026, simultaneous worldwide. Pokémon Center Online handled Japanese pre-release allocation by lottery — the application window printed on the official page ran from 28 August 12:00 to 31 August 16:59 JST.
As of September 9, 2026, all eight Basic Energy are listed in the official pokemon-card.com card database alongside the rest of the M6a main set. The database entries confirm YOSHIROTTEN as illustrator for each and carry no collection number — Basic Energy sit outside the xxx/103 numbering used by the rest of the set.
Bulbapedia, the community wiki, adds that every card in the set — Basic Energy included — is holofoil and carries the Pokémon 30th anniversary logo. For the full set structure, see our complete 30th CELEBRATION worldwide-release guide.
All 8 30th Celebration Basic Energy Cards by YOSHIROTTEN
The official product page shows all eight energies. Four of the eight designs from the official reveal — each card treats the energy symbol as a light source rather than a flat icon, consistent with the set’s futuristic key visual direction:

The remaining four — Grass, Fighting, Darkness and Metal — follow the same treatment, each pictured on the official page.
Because a box holds 20 packs, a sealed box yields 20 of these energies at random across the eight types. No official statement exists about the distribution of types per box, so treat any «X of each type per box» claim you see elsewhere as unverified.
Who Is YOSHIROTTEN?
Per the official 30th anniversary artist page, YOSHIROTTEN was born in 1983 and works as an artist whose worldview merges light and matter, spirituality and evidence, the ancient and the future, drawing on an intuitive sensitivity to both nature and technology. His recent work explores an S.F.-inflected visual language built on research into elemental subjects such as colour, the Earth and the Sun.
His exhibition record, as listed on the official page, includes FUTURE NATURE (2018), SUN (2023, staged at Japan’s National Stadium), Radial Graphics Bio (2024, Ginza Graphic Gallery) and FUTURE NATURE II in Kagoshima (2024, Kirishima Open-Air Museum). His own studio site adds that he works across fine art and commercial art in Tokyo, London and Berlin, and that his SUN series alone spans 365 digital images realised as installations, aluminium prints, vinyl and a book.
Within the 30th anniversary line, his officially credited Pokémon work covers:
| Item | Product | Credit basis |
|---|---|---|
| Mewtwo ex FUR 134/103 | 30th CELEBRATION (M6a) | Official product page |
| Mew ex FUR 135/103 | 30th CELEBRATION (M6a) | Official product page |
| Basic Energy ×8 types | 30th CELEBRATION (M6a) | Official product page |

PokeBeach also reported in August 2026 that The Pokémon Company published a short interview with YOSHIROTTEN on how light influenced his illustrations for the Futuristic Rares and the Basic Energy cards — light being the connective thread across everything he touched in this set. The YOSHIROTTEN-designed FUTURISTIC BOX, which pairs his two Pikachu ex promos with his supply designs, is covered in our separate FUTURISTIC BOX guide.
The FUR Connection: One Visual Language Across the Set
The energies are not a side project — they are the same design system as the set’s headline rarity. FUR (Futuristic Rare) debuted in this expansion with two cards, Mewtwo ex 134/103 and Mew ex 135/103, both drawn by YOSHIROTTEN. The official description calls them cards with vivid visuals that evoke hope for an unknown future; Bulbapedia describes the style as vivid colours, 3D graphical elements of Energy and Poké Balls, and special lighting effects, and notes that the Basic Energy cards share the same artistic style.
That makes the energies a non-random way to collect YOSHIROTTEN artwork. The FUR pull rate is officially unpublished — Japanese aggregator snkrdunk states outright that the insert rate is unknown — but the energy rate is printed on the product page itself: one per pack, every pack. Whatever a pack does or does not deliver, it hands you one YOSHIROTTEN foil.

The Worlds 2026 Energy Giveaway
The energies got a public preview before the set itself. Per PokeBeach (18 August 2026), the 30th Celebration booth at PokemonXP — the Worlds event held 28–30 August 2026 — gave away foil Basic Energy cards identical to the ones in the packs, before the set’s release.
Do Anniversary Energy Cards Matter to Collectors?
The 25th anniversary is the working precedent. The Japanese S8a 25th Anniversary Collection box — the direct ancestor of M6a — is currently listed at ¥65,874 (~$428) in our store, roughly five years after release. Its deluxe sibling, the 25th Anniversary Golden Box, sits at ¥191,835 (~$1,246). Neither price is driven by energy cards, but both show what happens to Japanese anniversary sealed product once the print window closes.

Structurally, a named-artist design, foil treatment on every copy, and a guaranteed slot in a heavily allocated anniversary set are the ingredients that made 25th-era extras collectable. Our S8a pull-rate retrospective and Golden Box guide cover how that played out last time.
