1999–2001: The Old Back Era and the Premium File 3 One-of-One
Celebi’s first Japanese card appearances came in the Neo era, the same period that gave the TCG its “Old Back” card stock. Celebi (card number neo3-036, HP 50, Psychic-type, Holo Rare) was printed in expansion pack 3, Awakening Legends, released November 23, 2000. A second Neo-era print followed as Shining Celebi, card 106/105, a Shining Holo Grass-type card in Neo4.
The third Old Back Celebi — and the one we carry — is a standalone promo: Celebi: Old Back, catalogued as PRMF-3 No.251 and issued through Neo Premium File 3. It’s Lv.14, HP 50, Grass-type, in a swirl-holo finish, released in November 2000 (sources we checked list either November 22 or November 23 — we haven’t been able to confirm which is correct). Sources also disagree on the illustrator credit, so we’re not naming one here rather than guessing.
Don’t confuse this card with the regular Awakening Legends Celebi (neo3-036). The Old Back promo is catalogued separately as PRMF-3 No.251 and sold as a standalone item — the “No.251” matches Celebi’s National Dex number, though whether that’s an official print serial or a database convention isn’t confirmed in the sources we checked.
In online collector discussion, this promo has been described as the release’s single holo card — an informal, community-sourced account rather than a documented production detail, so we’re passing it along as context rather than fact. What we can confirm directly is our own stock: it’s the single graded copy we carry.

2003: The Players Club EX Promo
Celebi’s next notable Japanese appearance is Celebi ex, card 006/PLAY, distributed in November 2003 as a reward card for Pokemon Card Players Club members who reached 10,000 EXP, illustrated by Ryo Ueda. We couldn’t confirm the card’s HP, type, or attack text against a clean primary source without risking a mix-up with a different Celebi EX printed later in the same style, so we’re keeping this entry to the distribution details rather than guessing at the rest of the card.
The Lv.X and HGSS Gap
Between the 2003 Players Club promo and the 2012 Cold Flare single, we looked for two things that didn’t turn up. First, a Celebi Lv.X from the Diamond & Pearl-to-Platinum era — Serebii’s TCG Cardex for Celebi (#0251) tags several other-era cards with an internal “Lv.X Rare” label, but that appears to be a site-side rarity bucket rather than evidence of an actual Lv.X-mechanic Celebi card. Second, a Heartgold & Soulsilver-era Celebi single of its own — nothing distinct for that period turned up in the sources we checked.
Neither gap is a confirmed statement that these cards don’t exist anywhere; it means we didn’t find them in this pass.
2012: Celebi EX in Cold Flare
Celebi EX, card 004/059, HP 110, Grass-type, Rare, was released July 13, 2012 in the Black & White-era expansion Cold Flare (BW6c), the Japanese pairing that corresponds to the English Boundaries Crossed. Its Ability, Time Recall, lets all of your evolved Pokemon use any of their pre-evolution’s attacks as long as this Celebi is in play; its attack, かぜわたり (Kaze Watari), does 60 damage and lets you switch it with a Benched Pokemon.
We also checked the later XY-era set, Phantom Forces (its Japanese counterpart is known as Phantom Gate), and found no Celebi entry in either the English or Japanese card lists — nothing turned up in the sources we checked, so Cold Flare stands as the BW era’s confirmed Celebi single.
2016: CP5 and the Celebi First Edition
Celebi returned as part of the mythical roster in CP5, the Mythical & Legendary Dream Shine Collection, released July 16, 2016 — a concept pack built entirely around Mythical and Legendary Pokemon rather than a numbered main-series set. Celebi appears as card 002/036, HP 70, Grass-type, illustrated by Mitsuhiro Arita. Multiple marketplaces we checked confirm a 1st Edition (“1ED”) stamp variant exists alongside the regular print — the copy we carry is the 1ED version.

2018: Celebi & Venusaur GX in Tag Bolt
Celebi’s Sun & Moon-era printing arrived as a Tag Team card rather than a solo GX: Celebi & Venusaur GX, released December 7, 2018 in Tag Bolt (SM9). It’s card 001/095 in the regular double-rare slot and 097/095 as the set’s secret rare, HP 270, Grass-type. Attacks include Pollen Hazard (50 damage plus a chance to poison, burn, or confuse), Solar Beam (150 damage), and the GX attack Evergreen GX (180 damage and a full heal). We checked specifically for a standalone Celebi GX and found none — this tag-team pairing is the only GX-mechanic Celebi card that turned up in our sourcing.
2021: Celebi V and the 2-Box Campaign Promo
The Sword & Shield era’s Celebi V appears in Jet-Black Spirit (S6K) at two numbers: 003/070 as the regular double-rare and 071/070 as the alternate-art secret rare. Both are HP 190, Grass-type; its first attack (わかばのまい) lets you attach any number of Grass Energy from your hand to your Pokemon in any way you like; a second attack, Slash Back (60 damage), switches Celebi with a Benched Pokemon.
A separate Celebi V exists as Celebi V PROMO, S-P 175, distributed through the “Silver Lance / Jet-Black Spirit 2-box purchase campaign” — a store incentive tied to buying two boxes across that pair of sets. It shares the HP 190, Grass-type stat line and carries Regulation Mark E. 2023–2026: The Scarlet & Violet Gap
Celebi’s current-era English printing is confirmed as Stellar Crown, #004/142, an Uncommon. Its Japanese counterpart set, Stellar Miracle (SV7), released July 19, 2024, but we couldn’t confirm the matching Japanese card number — checking SV7/4 directly on the card database we use turned up a different Pokemon entirely, so we’re not stating a JP number here rather than guessing at one.
We also checked specifically for an SV-mechanics Celebi ex (the “ex” suffix single-card format used throughout the Scarlet & Violet era) and found none in the sources available to us. As with the earlier gaps in this guide, that’s a statement about what we found, not a confirmed claim that no such card exists.
