Metagross δ 146/103: 30th Celebration Classic Collection Reprint Guide

Metagross δ 146/103: 30th Celebration Classic Collection Reprint Guide

Metagross δ 146/103 brings back one of the strangest mechanics the Pokemon TCG ever tried: Delta Species, the 2005 gimmick that gave Pokemon an off-type dual typing printed right on the card. This is the original Lightning/Metal Metagross, card text and all, reissued as part of the 30th CELEBRATION Classic Collection.

This guide covers what card number 146/103 is, the 2005 Delta Species original it reprints, how the Japanese Holon Research Tower PSA10 (a resale printing) matches that original, and how to buy into the set that contains it. We ship Japanese sealed product and singles out of Tokyo, so every current price below is one of our own live listings or a dated marketplace figure.

Key Takeaways

Metagross δ 146/103 reprints the 2005 EX Delta Species Holo Rare (#11/113) illustrated by Masakazu Fukuda — Delta Control and Crush and Burn, unchanged, on a Lightning/Metal dual-type Metagross. It carries a Classic Collection “C” mark and is not Standard-legal. A PSA10 of the Japanese Holon Research Tower Metagross δ (resale printing) is sold out at the time of this update. The M6a 30th CELEBRATION booster box containing the reprint, now released, is listed at ¥26,654 (~$173) (Sealed); the No Shrink option is listed at ¥26,431 (~$172).

What Is the Metagross δ 146/103 Reprint?

Pokemon published the official card list for M6a 30th CELEBRATION on 9 September 2026, and it covers the main set (001–103), the Classic Collection (136–165) and the eight Basic Energy in full. Metagross δ sits inside that confirmed Classic Collection block, at card number 146/103, JP name メタグロス, illustrator Masakazu Fukuda — both the card number and the illustrator credit are in the official pokemon-card.com database.

Like the other 29 cards in the 136–165 run, Metagross δ carries the set’s Classic Collection “C” mark next to the M6a set code and is explicitly not usable under current Standard rules — it’s a display and collecting card, playable only in whichever legacy format the 2005 original is legal in. Two independent English-language checklist trackers (Bill’s Archive and thornberrymedia), compiling the equivalent English “30th Celebration” Ultra-Premium Collection, both list this same card as slot 11 of 30 in their reprint run, matching our Japanese numbering. Pokemon itself has not published a formal slot-by-slot checklist for the block — only Charizard and Pikachu & Zekrom-GX carry a Pokemon-confirmed pick; Metagross δ, like the rest, is “reported.”

The Original Print: EX Delta Species Metagross δ #11/113

The card being reprinted is Metagross δ, EX Delta Species (DS), #11/113, 2005 — a Holo Rare printed with the “δ” delta-species marking, illustrated by Masakazu Fukuda. It’s not to be confused with the Gold Star “Metagross ★” printed at DS #113 in the same set — a different, much rarer card. The #11 non-Star print by Fukuda is the one matching the 30th reprint’s illustrator credit. On the Japanese side, Bulbapedia’s printings data places the original release in the “Holon Research Tower” set at #040/086 — that specific Japanese card number comes from a single source and should be treated as unverified beyond it, though a PSA10 of the Japanese Holon Research Tower Metagross δ (resale printing) is sold out at the time of this update (see below).

Attribute Detail
Original set / number EX Delta Species (DS), #11/113
Year 2005
Rarity Holo Rare (Delta Species marking)
Illustrator Masakazu Fukuda
Type / HP / Stage Lightning/Metal (Delta Species dual-type) / 100 / Stage 2 (evolves from Metang)
Ability — Delta Control Once per turn before attacking, look at the top 4 cards of your deck, take 1 into your hand, and put the other 3 on the bottom in any order
Attack — Crush and Burn (Lightning + Metal) Discard any number of Energy attached to your Pokemon in play; 30 damage plus 20 more for each Energy discarded
Weakness / Resistance / Retreat Fire / Grass / 3

Delta Species was the defining mechanic of its expansion: Pokemon printed with an off-type “δ” typing, so a naturally Psychic/Steel Metagross became Lightning/Metal instead — a novelty that changed which Weaknesses and Resistances applied without touching the Pokemon itself. Bulbapedia notes that Crush and Burn’s discard-for-damage structure had already debuted on an earlier delta card, Electrode ex, making Metagross δ part of a small family of attacks built around trading board resources for a damage spike.

Why Metagross δ Made the Classic Collection Cut

Pokemon hasn’t published an official rationale for any individual Classic Collection pick, Metagross δ included, so anything beyond the confirmed facts above is our own read rather than a sourced claim. What we can say with confidence: the block as a whole spans Base Set through the Scarlet & Violet era, and Metagross δ is the run’s Holo Rare Delta Species entry, sitting beside Scizor ex (145/103), the era’s Rare Holo ex — both from 2005, and both illustrated by artists whose credit carries straight through to the 30th reprint. Metagross δ is also the only Classic Collection card built around the Delta Species gimmick specifically, giving the block a representative of a mechanic tied to that expansion block.

If you’re working through the wider Classic Collection block, our companion guides cover three more reprints from the same run: Delcatty 143/103, Scizor ex 145/103, and Palkia LV.X 147/103. For Metagross’s wider Japanese printing history outside this reprint, see our Metagross cards guide. Our 30th anniversary reprints list rounds up the full Classic Collection as each entry is confirmed.

A Graded Japanese Print of This Card — and Other Graded Metagross

A PSA10 of the Japanese Holon Research Tower Metagross δ (resale printing) is sold out at the time of this update — restock requests go through Quick Order.

That PSA10 is a graded copy of the Japanese Holon Research Tower Metagross δ — a resale printing of the same card behind 146/103, and a later resale printing rather than the original run.

Beyond that specific card, we also list a spread of other Metagross-species PSA10 prints, none the same card as 146/103 but useful context for where the wider Metagross graded market sits:

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Metagross δ 146/103 card in 30th Celebration?

It’s a Classic Collection reprint of the 2005 EX Delta Species Metagross δ (#11/113, Holo Rare, illustrated by Masakazu Fukuda), carrying the same Delta Control ability and Crush and Burn attack on a Lightning/Metal dual-type card. It has a “C” Classic Collection mark and is not Standard-legal.

What was the Delta Species mechanic?

Delta Species Pokemon, marked with a “δ” symbol, were printed with an off-type dual typing not found on the normal Pokemon — Metagross δ is Lightning/Metal instead of its natural Psychic/Steel, which changes its Weakness and Resistance.

Can I buy the original Metagross δ print from Samurai Sword Tokyo?

Not the original run. The PSA10 of the Japanese resale printing (PCG6 040/086), Metagross Delta Species from Holon Research Tower, is sold out at the time of this update. The 30th CELEBRATION reprint itself (146/103) isn’t listed as a single yet, even though M6a has now released.

Is there a different Metagross in the same original set?

Yes. EX Delta Species also has a Gold Star “Metagross ★” at DS #113, a separate and much rarer card. The 30th reprint matches the non-Star Metagross δ at DS #11, illustrated by Masakazu Fukuda.

Is Metagross δ 146/103 tournament legal?

No. Classic Collection cards carry a “C” mark and cannot be used under current Standard rules; they remain legal only in whichever legacy format the original 2005 printing is legal in.

When did M6a 30th CELEBRATION release?

It released Wednesday, 16 September 2026, worldwide, at ¥360 per pack with 20 packs to a box for ¥7,200.
