Bulbasaur 151 Illustration Rare: Japanese SV2a AR 166/165 (Pokemon)

Bulbasaur 151 Illustration Rare: Japanese SV2a AR 166/165 (Pokemon)

The Bulbasaur 151 Illustration Rare is card 166/165 of Japan’s SV2a set: a Grass-type Basic Pokémon with 70 HP, credited to Yoriyuki Ikegami in the official Pokémon Card Game database. The database page for 166/165 on pokemon-card.com, as of October 2, 2026, lists the card in the enhanced expansion pack 強化拡張パック「ポケモンカード151(イチゴーイチ)」, which the official product page dates to June 16, 2023.

The tier is where the naming gets tangled. The Japanese database marks 166/165 with an AR icon and prints no tier words, pokemon.com names the English 166/165 card Illustration Rare, and the third-party database Limitless TCG calls it Art Rare. Those are three labels for one slot, and they sit on two different cards printed in two languages.

We sell Japanese sealed product and graded singles from Tokyo. USD figures convert at ¥154/USD, approximate.

Key Takeaways
  • Bulbasaur AR is SV2a 166/165, illustrated by Yoriyuki Ikegami. The database shows the AR icon only; Illustration Rare is the English name on pokemon.com.
  • Its game text matches the base Bulbasaur 001/165 (Leech Seed, 20 damage, heal 20). The base card is credited to Yuu Nishida.
  • The official SV2a page prints no pull rates, no packs-per-box count and no set size. The database lists 210 rows, 18 of them AR.
  • For opening the set, the Sealed option of the SV2a booster box is currently listed at ¥44,502 (~$289).

Bulbasaur SV2a 166/165: The Printed Card

The official database entry for フシギダネ 166/165 is short, which makes it easy to state in full. Every field in the table is as printed in the database as of October 2, 2026.

Attack やどりぎのタネ (Leech Seed): Grass + Colorless, 20 damage
Attack text 「このポケモンのHPを「20」回復する。」 (heals 20 damage from this Pokémon, rendering)
Weakness / Resistance / Retreat Fire ×2 / none / two Colorless
Pokédex block No.001, たねポケモン, 0.7 m, 6.9 kg
Illustrator Yoriyuki Ikegami
Source product 強化拡張パック「ポケモンカード151(イチゴーイチ)」

The Pokédex block reads 「生まれて しばらくの あいだ 背中の タネに つまった 栄養を とって 育つ。」, which renders roughly as: for some time after birth, it grows on the nutrition packed into the seed on its back. The 「たねポケモン」 on that line is the Pokédex species line (Seed Pokémon). The stage field prints たね separately.

The attack is the whole card. Leech Seed does 20 damage and heals 20 from Bulbasaur itself, and the database lists no Ability, no rule box and no second attack. The printed Weakness is Fire ×2. Those are the numbers on this card, and nothing more should be read into them.

Illustration Rare, Art Rare and AR: Three Labels

Illustration Rare is the label pokemon.com uses for the English 151 card, while the Japanese card is labelled differently; the three sources differ only in wording, not in the slot they describe.

Source Label for 166/165 What it is
pokemon-card.com database (Japanese) AR icon Official; the database prints an icon, not words
pokemon.com card database (English) Illustration Rare Official English card page, set name printed as “151”
Limitless TCG Art Rare Third-party database

So the accurate label for the Japanese card is its AR icon, with Illustration Rare as the English name on pokemon.com. The Japanese database does not print the words “Illustration Rare”. For how the Japanese rarity icons map to tiers across eras, see the Japanese Pokémon card rarities explained article.

166/165 vs 001/165 and the Mirror Print

Bulbasaur appears once in the main SV2a number range and once in the AR range, and mirror-finish versions of the base card circulate under marketplace names. They are easy to confuse in search results and marketplace titles.

フシギダネ 001/165 C from SV2a Pokémon Card 151, Bulbasaur illustrated by Yuu Nishida
フシギダネ (Bulbasaur) SV2a 001/165 C
Print Number Rarity in the database Illustrator Attack
Base Bulbasaur 001/165 C Yuu Nishida Leech Seed 20, heal 20
Bulbasaur AR 166/165 AR Yoriyuki Ikegami Leech Seed 20, heal 20
Master Ball Mirror (our and SNKRDUNK naming) 001/165 Not a separate database row Yuu Nishida (the 001/165 credit) Leech Seed 20, heal 20

The game text on 001/165 and 166/165 is identical in the database: same HP, same attack, same Fire ×2 weakness and the same retreat cost. What separates them is the number, the rarity icon, the illustrator credit and the finish. A buyer who wants the Ikegami card needs 166/165, not 001/165 in any finish.

The mirror print needs its own sentence. The official SV2a page says that, in addition to the regular cards, the set includes premium mirror-finish cards processed with a Monster Ball pattern (「モンスターボール柄の特殊な加工がされた、豪華ミラー仕様のカード」), and it does not use the word Master Ball. SNKRDUNK lists two mirror versions of 001/165, labelled Master Ball Mirror and Monster Ball Mirror, and our listings use the Master Ball Mirror name; the database holds one row per number rather than a separate mirror row.

Ikegami’s Cards and the 18 AR Slots

Yoriyuki Ikegami is credited on three Bulbasaur-line cards in SV2a, and all three are high-rarity prints.

Number Card Rarity icon Illustrator
166/165 フシギダネ (Bulbasaur) AR Yoriyuki Ikegami

フシギバナex 200/165 SAR from SV2a Pokémon Card 151, Venusaur ex illustrated by Yoriyuki Ikegami
フシギバナex (Venusaur ex) SV2a 200/165 SAR

The three share the same illustrator credit. The database lists no Venusaur AR: Venusaur ex appears in SV2a only as 003/165 (RR), 184/165 (SR, credited to PLANETA Yamashita) and 200/165 (SAR). The line therefore has two AR cards, Bulbasaur and Ivysaur, and one SAR.

Bulbasaur is the first of 18 AR rows in the database, which run from 166/165 to 183/165. The table lists the illustrator credit for each. Sibling cards from the same range are covered in our Charmander, Pikachu 173/165 and Mewtwo 183/165 card guides.

The English 151 Counterpart

The English set is called 151, and its Bulbasaur 166/165 carries the same number as the Japanese AR. The pokemon.com card page for it, as of October 2, 2026, gives the details in the table.

Limitless TCG, a third-party database, also lists the card’s other prints. For the English side it names Pokémon 151 #1, Pokémon 151 #166 and Stellar Crown #143. For the Japanese side it names Pokémon Card 151 #1 and #166, plus two entries in the Special Deck Set ex Venusaur & Charizard & Blastoise (#1 and #50). Limitless also lists the Stellar Crown #143 Bulbasaur as an Art Rare credited to Orca, so the Ikegami credit on 166/165 does not carry over to that card.

The English release date is the open item. pokemon.com does not print it on the card page, so no official English date is confirmed as of October 2, 2026. For the general differences between the two languages, our Japanese vs English Pokémon cards article is the reference, and the Special Deck Set ex Venusaur, Charizard and Blastoise article covers the product that Limitless lists as the other Japanese source of Bulbasaur prints.

SNKRDUNK Lowest Asks, October 2, 2026

These are lowest asking prices on SNKRDUNK, October 2, 2026, taken from each card’s product page. They are asks, not sales. The grade columns are SNKRDUNK’s own condition and grading labels, and 出品待ち means no ask was listed for that row.

Card Headline ask PSA 10 ask Other rows
フシギダネ AR 166/165 ¥2,000 ¥9,380 A ¥2,950 · B ¥3,000 · C ¥2,000 · PSA 9 ¥6,000

フシギダネ C: モンスターボールミラー 001/165 ¥1,000 (SNKRDUNK display floor) 出品待ち A ¥1,000 · B ¥1,000 · D ¥1,100 (thin row)

Read the table by row. The 166/165 AR has a lowest headline ask of ¥2,000 on October 2, 2026, and its PSA 10 row reads ¥9,380. The 167/165 Ivysaur AR shows ¥1,900 and ¥8,999 on the same date. The 001/165 Master Ball Mirror carries the highest PSA 10 ask of the five rows, at ¥14,200. The ¥1,000 figure on the Monster Ball Mirror row is SNKRDUNK’s display floor, not a verified ask, and the base 001/165 row has no PSA 10 ask at all.

No figure here is a sale price, and the table makes no claim about where any ask will move.

The Master Ball Mirror 001/165 is also offered as a PSA 10 back order at ¥13,386 (~$87). It is a different card from the AR, with a different number and illustrator credit.

PSA 10 back orders are also offered for these SV2a numbers: Ivysaur AR 167/165 at ¥9,006 (~$58), Venusaur SR 184/165 at ¥8,153 (~$53), Venusaur ex SAR 200/165 at ¥23,041 (~$150) and Mewtwo AR 183/165 at ¥10,335 (~$67). Each is a separate product with its own page.

PSA 10 designates Gem Mint condition per PSA’s published grading standards; our PSA 10 meaning article covers the scale. A physical PSA 10 slab of the 166/165 is sold out at the time of this update — sourcing requests go through Quick Order.

What the Official SV2a Page Says

The Bulbasaur AR lives inside a set whose official page is short. The table separates what The Pokémon Company prints from what it does not.

Item Status Detail
Product name Official 強化拡張パック「ポケモンカード151(イチゴーイチ)」
Release date Official June 16, 2023 (2023年6月16日(金))

Pull rates Not published The official page prints no insertion rate for any card
Database rows Official database 210 rows, numbered 001 to 210, every row printed /165

The 210 rows break down in the database as 165 numbered cards (66 C, 62 U, 25 R and 12 RR) plus 45 above the printed 165: 18 AR (166–183), 16 SR (184–199), 8 SAR (200–207) and 3 UR (208–210). That is the database composition, not a claim the product page makes.

The Pokémon Company also published a notice dated June 13, 2023, titled 「強化拡張パック「ポケモンカード151」受注生産の決定につきまして」, saying the pack would be sold made-to-order at Pokémon Center Online. The notice prints no order window, quantity or ship date.

Opening 151: The Box Route

The official page prints no pull rate for the Bulbasaur AR, so there is no number to quote for how many packs it takes. What the page does print is the format: 7 cards per pack, inserted at random. A booster box is therefore the route for a buyer who wants to open the set rather than buy a single.

Buyer Checklist

Run through these checks before you pay for any Bulbasaur described as a 151 AR.

  1. Check the number. The Ikegami AR is 166/165. A 001/165 is the base card, in any finish.
  2. Check the language. The Japanese database shows the AR icon and no tier words for 166/165. Illustration Rare is the label pokemon.com uses for the English 151 print.
  3. Check the illustrator. The Japanese database credits 166/165 to Yoriyuki Ikegami and 001/165 to Yuu Nishida. Stellar Crown #143 is a different Bulbasaur credited to Orca, per Limitless TCG.
  4. Check the finish name. SNKRDUNK labels 001/165 mirror versions Master Ball Mirror and Monster Ball Mirror, and our listings use Master Ball Mirror; the official page mentions only mirror cards with a Monster Ball pattern.
  5. Check the grade label. SNKRDUNK’s A, B and C rows are condition labels for raw cards, and the PSA 10 row is a separate row with its own ask.
  6. Check the status words. Anything about pull rates, packs per box or the English release date that is not on an official page should be read as not confirmed.

For identification help beyond this card, the guide to spotting fake Japanese Pokémon cards covers the print and card-back checks.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many AR cards are in Pokemon Card 151 (SV2a)?

The official database lists 18 AR rows in SV2a, numbered 166/165 to 183/165, starting with Bulbasaur at 166/165 and ending with Mewtwo at 183/165. The product page itself does not print a set size, so the 18 is a database count, not a product-page claim.

What is the Bulbasaur 151 Illustration Rare card number?

It is 166/165. The Japanese SV2a print is フシギダネ 166/165, a Grass-type Basic Pokémon with 70 HP, credited to Yoriyuki Ikegami. The English 151 card page on pokemon.com lists Bulbasaur 166/165 as Illustration Rare with the same illustrator credit, Yoriyuki Ikegami, as the Japanese card.

Is the Japanese Bulbasaur AR called Illustration Rare?

Illustration Rare is the English name printed on pokemon.com for Bulbasaur 166/165. The Japanese database shows only an AR icon and prints no tier words, and Limitless TCG calls the same tier Art Rare. For the Japanese print, the database’s AR icon is the label to use when searching.

When did Pokemon Card 151 release in Japan and in English?

The official Japanese product page gives June 16, 2023 for Pokémon Card 151 (SV2a). The English 151 release date is not printed on the pokemon.com card page; Limitless TCG, a third-party database, lists September 22, 2023, so no official English date is confirmed as of October 2, 2026.

What are the pull rates for Bulbasaur 166/165?

No pull rate is published. The official product page says only that cards are inserted at random, and it prints no insertion rate for any AR. Per-box or per-pack odds quoted elsewhere are not official, and no figure exists to cite for Bulbasaur 166/165.

What is the difference between Bulbasaur 166/165 and the 001/165 Master Ball Mirror?

They are different cards. 166/165 is the AR print credited to Yoriyuki Ikegami; 001/165 is the base Bulbasaur credited to Yuu Nishida. SNKRDUNK lists 001/165 mirror versions labelled Master Ball Mirror and Monster Ball Mirror; neither is a separate database row, and the official page mentions only Monster Ball pattern mirror cards.

Can I buy a PSA 10 Bulbasaur 166/165 from Japan?

A PSA 10 Bulbasaur AR 166/165 is offered as a back order that is sourced on request, with the terms on its product page. PSA 10 designates Gem Mint condition per PSA’s published grading standards. Sourcing requests for other grades or cards go through Quick Order.
