The August 2026 Situation
Here is the state of play as of August 24, in plain terms.
OP-16 The Time of Battle released in Japan on May 30, 2026. Nearly three months later, the set is fully mapped: the card list is public, the chase hierarchy is established, and the Japanese singles market has had time to find its levels. Our Japanese booster box is currently listed at ¥12,540 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) (~$79), in stock.
OP-17 released in Japan on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with the English version following unusually fast — pre-release August 21 and full release August 28, a six-day JP/EN gap. The Japanese pack is ¥240 tax included for 6 cards, the set is confirmed at 131+4 card types, and a box is 24 packs — which makes the box MSRP math simple: 24 × ¥240 = ¥5,760. Our Japanese OP-17 box is currently listed at ¥18,000 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) (~$113), in stock — well above MSRP, in line with the rest of the launch-weekend secondary market.
On the secondary market, sealed box asks on snkrdunk are running ¥15,699–¥16,000 (about $99–$101) this launch weekend — roughly 2.7–2.8× the ¥5,760 MSRP. These are asking/listing prices, not a record of completed sales, and as with any new set they can move once more boxes are opened and supply becomes clearer. That is the real comparison this month: a fully-known, settled OP-16 box versus a fully-known but freshly-priced OP-17 box, both in stock, at very different price points.
What an OP-16 Box Offers
OP-16 is the Summit War set: Impel Down into Marineford, the arc that defined One Piece for a generation of readers. That theme gave it an unusually broad collector base at launch, and the structure backs it up.

The case for OP-16 in August comes down to three things:
- Everything is known. The chase hierarchy — Admiral Super Parallels at the top, Ace and Blackbeard SECs, a Treasure Rare, Leader parallels — is fully mapped. You are not buying into reveal-cycle uncertainty; you know exactly what pool your packs draw from.
- Both audiences showed up. OP-16 launched with collector demand (Marineford nostalgia, Ace, the Admirals) and player relevance (six new Leaders spanning aggressive red Ace to defensive Blackbeard control). Sets holding both tend to keep attention longer than sets with only one.
- The entry price is well below OP-17’s. At ¥12,540, an OP-16 box currently costs ¥5,460 less than an OP-17 box, and it carries no launch-weekend premium — its pricing has had two-plus months to settle.

OP-17 — searched in Japan under its set name 「世界最強の戦士」 — is built around the strongest warriors in the One Piece world, and it released in Japan on August 22, 2026. The card list is now confirmed at 131+4 types, and the reveals lean hard into the Emperors and the Rocks Pirates.

Community pull-rate estimates (unofficial, and conflicting across sources) put the Pirate Crew Super Parallel around 1 in 338 boxes, the Manga tier at roughly 1 in 65–100 boxes depending on the source, and the Leader parallel around 1 in 6 boxes. Bandai does not publish official pull rates for any set — treat these as community estimates, not guarantees.
The English version pre-released August 21 and fully releases August 28, 2026, at $4.99/pack MSRP — a six-day gap between the Japanese and English releases. As of August 24, Bandai has not announced an official reprint; retailer restock lotteries are running instead (JUMP SHOP August 24–27, GEO August 31–September 3), which is a secondary, non-guaranteed restock path rather than a confirmed reprint.

Profile 1: The player who wants cards now
Answer: either — both are in stock. This is no longer the arithmetic problem it was before release. OP-16 gives six known Leaders across the color spectrum — from Ace’s aggressive red pressure to Blackbeard’s defensive redirection — a mapped card pool, and a box currently listed at ¥12,540. OP-17 gives six known Leaders too — Newgate, Shanks, Rocks D. Xebec, Kaido, Luffy, and Linlin — a fully confirmed 131+4 card list, and a box currently listed at ¥18,000. A player buying either box today is buying cards, not a wait. The remaining question is budget and which Leader lineup you want to build around, not availability.
Profile 2: The chase hunter aiming at the new top-end
Answer: OP-17 — and expect to pay a real launch-weekend premium for it, not a hypothetical one. OP-16’s chase pool is over two months old; its discovery phase is closed. OP-17’s just opened, and the confirmed top end is already on the board: two Secret Rares (Rocks D. Xebec, Loki), a Pirate Crew Super Parallel pairing already asking seven figures for the Luffy card, four Manga finals asking ¥80,000–184,000, a Treasure Rare, and a Super Leader Parallel Luffy. None of that is projection — it is what the secondary market is asking three days into release. The trade-off is price: our box is currently listed at ¥18,000, and secondary box asks are running 2.7–2.8× MSRP. Older, high-demand sets — OP-01, OP-05, OP-11 — sit at ¥36,000–67,000 (Aug 3 pricing). The most recent sets sit lower, but the launch-window entry has now moved from OP-16 (¥12,540 today) to OP-17 (¥18,000, released Aug 22) — priced above OP-16’s current level, consistent with OP-17’s confirmed, chase-heavy card pool and real secondary-market pull this early. Launch-window boxes have historically sat toward the cheaper end of this curve, but OP-17 shows that isn’t guaranteed for every set — nothing about future pricing is promised here.
Read as a collector, the ladder now says something slightly different than it did on August 3. The entry cost of a sealed position is not automatically lowest during a launch window: OP-17 launched above OP-16’s current price, driven by a confirmed, chase-heavy card pool commanding real asks from day one. OP-16 still offers the cheaper entry and a Marineford anchor; OP-17 offers a confirmed Emperors-heavy top-end at a real, current premium. A sealed collector’s honest play is still about entry price and theme conviction — but “launch window means cheap” is no longer a safe assumption for every set. What’s Still Unresolved About OP-17
OP-17 is live, and most of what was unknown three weeks ago is now settled: the card list, the Leader lineup, the confirmed chase tier, and real secondary-market asks. A few things are still genuinely open as of August 24:
- No official reprint. Bandai has not announced a reprint as of August 24. Retailer restock lotteries are running instead (JUMP SHOP Aug 24–27, GEO Aug 31–Sep 3) — a secondary, non-guaranteed path to more stock, not a confirmed reprint.
- Pull rates remain unofficial and conflicting. Bandai does not publish pull rates. Community estimates for the Manga tier range from roughly 1 in 65 to 1 in 100 boxes depending on the source, and estimates for the Pirate Crew Super Parallel (~1 in 338) and Leader parallel (~1 in 6) come from single-site tracking. Treat all of these as directional, not guaranteed.
- Whether launch-weekend asks hold. The 2.7–2.8× MSRP range on the box, and the chase-card asks above, are what the secondary market is asking for right now, on launch weekend — not a settled price. Asking prices for new sets can move once more boxes are opened and supply becomes clearer; we are not forecasting where this settles.
- The exact scope of the “third secret-rarity slot.” Secondary sources describe the Pirate Crew Super Parallel as effectively the set’s third SEC-tier slot. Bandai’s own official wording for how this is counted has not been independently verified by us, so we describe it in that hedged way rather than as an official classification. Likewise, a “177 types including parallels” figure circulates in secondary aggregations but is not an official Bandai count.
The practical translation: decide what a chase card is worth to you before you buy or open boxes chasing it. Use the asks in this guide as your reference point — Aug 24 launch-weekend prices, not fixed targets — rather than letting release-weekend energy set your ceiling. One reading of that table deserves emphasis: these boxes are not really competing for the same yen anymore. OP-16 is a resolved product at a settled, lower price; OP-17 is a resolved product at a real launch-weekend premium. The buyers who should think hardest are those with a single-box budget and no strong buyer-type identity — and for them, the tiebreaker is now price and chase appetite, not uncertainty, since both boxes’ facts are on the table.

- Sealed condition travels with the box. Japanese boxes ship shrink-wrapped, and a crushed corner affects a sealed box’s collectibility even though the cards inside are fine. We pack for international transit accordingly.
