Turtwig Pokemon Cards Guide: Japanese Prints, Rarities and the 30th CELEBRATION Promo

Turtwig Pokemon Cards Guide: Japanese Prints, Rarities and the 30th CELEBRATION Promo

Turtwig is a small line in the Japanese TCG, but it is not a thin one. The Grass-type Sinnoh starter has appeared across more than a decade of Japanese sets — from Black & White-era boosters through the Sun & Moon years and into the current Scarlet & Violet block — and its highest-rarity chase print, the Art Rare from VSTAR Universe, is one we currently list as a graded PSA 10.

Its newest print is a foil full-art promo, numbered 110/M-P, in 30th CELEBRATION Card Set 4 — the Sinnoh trio pairing of Turtwig, Chimchar and Piplup. We sell that card only inside the all-nine-types pre-order bundle, which opens on September 8, 2026 at 18:00 JST, ships on or after October 17, 2026, and is sold as a separate order from the rest of your cart.

This guide runs through every Japanese Turtwig print we have independently verified, set by set, then covers the 2026 promo in detail and lists what we currently have listed for sale, including our graded PSA 10 copy of the AR chase print.

Key Takeaways

Our graded PSA10 Turtwig AR (VSTAR Universe 206/172) is currently listed at ¥9,335 (~$59). Turtwig’s newest print is the foil full-art promo 110/M-P in 30th CELEBRATION Card Set 4, available through the all-9-types pre-order bundle, currently listed at ¥25,000 (~$157). For the full trio breakdown, see our Card Set 4: Turtwig, Chimchar & Piplup article.

Every Verified Turtwig Card, Set by Set

The prints we have verified span more than a decade of Japanese sets, from Black & White through Sun & Moon and into VSTAR Universe, Star Birth and Scarlet & Violet. Set-by-set detail is below; the highest rarity tier we’ve confirmed for Turtwig is Art Rare, from VSTAR Universe.

Turtwig AR 206/172 — VSTAR Universe (S12a), illustrated by Kouki Saitou, released 2 December 2022

Card 206/172 in VSTAR Universe is the highest-rarity Turtwig print we have verified: an Art Rare, illustrated by Kouki Saitou. This is the print we currently list graded as a PSA 10 — see the listing further down this guide.

The same set also carries a separate Common-tier Turtwig at 6/172, illustrated by Narumi Sato — a different illustration from the Art Rare above. That same Narumi Sato artwork appeared earlier as a Common in Star Birth (S9) at 6/100, released 14 January 2022, before VSTAR Universe’s 2 December 2022 release.

Telling Them Apart

The Art Rare (206/172, illustrated by Kouki Saitou) is a separate illustration from the two Commons (S12a 6/172 and S9 6/100, both illustrated by Narumi Sato), which do share the same artwork as each other. Check the set code printed at the bottom of the card — S12a or S9 — and the number fraction to tell the two Commons apart.

The Sun & Moon Era

SM5S 5/66 & 6/66 — Ultra Sun commons

Ultra Sun (SM5S), released 8 December 2017, carries two separate Turtwig commons: 5/66, illustrated by Ken Sugimori, and 6/66, illustrated by OOYAMA.

The same era also produced a Turtwig print in the Ultra Force (SM5p) subset, card 1, illustrated by OOYAMA and released 19 January 2018, and one in the SMH GX Starter Decks subset, card 4, also illustrated by OOYAMA. Neither subset page displays a rarity symbol or a confirmed total card count, so we list the card number only.

Black & White, Scarlet & Violet and Starter Decks

BW7 1/70 & SV5K 3/71 — a decade apart

The earliest print among those with a confirmed release date is Plasma Gale (BW7) 1/70, a Common illustrated by Kouki Saitou and released 14 September 2012. Turtwig then reappears more than a decade later in Wild Force (SV5K) 3/71, a Common illustrated by OKACHEKE and released 26 January 2024. A further print sits in the Starter Decks 100 Battle Collection subset (MC), card 34, illustrated by OKACHEKE; that subset page does not display a rarity symbol or a confirmed total card count.

Chase Prints and What Makes Them Collectible

Among the prints we have verified, Art Rare is the highest rarity tier confirmed for Turtwig, held by 206/172 in VSTAR Universe, illustrated by Kouki Saitou. The same set also carries a separate Common-tier print at 6/172, illustrated by Narumi Sato, with the same Narumi Sato artwork appearing again as a Common in Star Birth (6/100) — a different illustration from the Art Rare, sharing only the same era.

Outside VSTAR Universe and Star Birth, every other print we’ve confirmed — across Black & White, the Sun & Moon subsets, and Scarlet & Violet’s Wild Force — sits at Common tier or shows no rarity symbol on its own card page. The 30th CELEBRATION promo sits in its own category: a foil full-art promo card. We list it only inside the Card Set 4 all-nine-types bundle rather than as a standalone item.
