The XY-era MフシギバナEX (M Venusaur EX) ends your turn the moment it Mega Evolves and has no Ability. The 2025 メガフシギバナex (Mega Venusaur ex) drops that restriction, adds an Ability, and when it’s Knocked Out, your opponent takes three Prize cards. Same Pokemon, same “Mega” idea, completely different card on the table.

Every Mega Venusaur Printing in Japanese
As of writing, these seven Japanese printings are documented across the two eras — four from the XY era and three from 2025’s M1L. No other Japanese printing of Mega Venusaur is documented at this time.

The English “Generations” M Venusaur-EX exists overseas but sits outside the scope of this Japanese-market catalog. The sections below cover each era and show which of these seven we currently carry.
The XY-Era Originals: MフシギバナEX
MフシギバナEX runs on the original M進化 (Mega Evolution) rule: Mega Evolving ends your turn immediately, and the card has no Ability to compensate — the payoff is entirely in the attack. Four Japanese printings exist from this era.
The XY1 002/060 printing debuted the card in 拡張パック「コレクションX」 (RR) — its exact release date is not publicly documented, so we won’t print one. No verified Japanese card-image source covers this set, so it isn’t pictured here.
The 20th 002/072 printing came in the official スターターパック, released 2016-02-27 at ¥1,300+tax — a randomized 60-card deck plus coin and damage counters built to recreate the original 1996 first product. This printing carries no rarity mark. On the card itself: HP230, Grass-type, attack ブルームバスター (BLOOM BUSTER) 130 with a coin-flip Bench-damage effect, illustrated by 5ban Graphics. We currently hold a PSA10 graded copy at ¥33,990 (update: currently sold out — restock requests via Quick Order) — one-of-one stock.
The CP6 002/087 RR printing came from the same 20th Anniversary concept pack as the SR below (see next section), released 2016-09-16 at ¥300+tax for 10 cards per pack.
No rarity mark on your card and it says “20th” or “STARTER” on the pack it came from? You’re holding the 002/072 Starter Pack printing, not the CP6 concept-pack RR. They share the same artwork family but come from different products two months apart.
The Grail: CP6 SR 1st Edition
The secret-slot SR 089/087 from the same CP6「20th Anniversary」concept pack (released 2016-09-16) is the premium XY-era Mega Venusaur. Official copy for CP6 describes it as a 20-years-later recreation of the original packaging, pairing フシギバナ・リザードン・カメックス EX cards with their Mega counterparts in anniversary styling.
Read off the verified card image: HP230, attack クライシスバイン (CRISIS VINE) 120 that poisons and paralyzes the opponent’s Active, illustrated by 5ban Graphics. Our copy carries a visible 1st Edition mark — CP6 had 1st Edition print runs, and that mark is what separates this from a standard-run SR.
We currently hold the only PSA10 copy in our inventory: CP6 089/087 SR, PSA10, 1st Edition, at ¥91,464. It’s a one-of-one listing — once it’s sold, we don’t have a second one waiting behind it.

The 2025 Return: メガフシギバナex in M1L “Mega Brave”
メガフシギバナex debuted 2025-08-01 in M1L「メガブレイブ」, one of the two sets (alongside M1S) that launched the MEGA era. It runs on the new メガシンカex rule — no forced end-of-turn on evolving, and when it’s Knocked Out, your opponent takes three Prize cards. Three rarities were printed.
The chase copy is the SAR 087/063. Read off the verified image: HP 380, Grass-type, Ability ソーラートランス (move a Basic Grass Energy between your own Pokemon, usable every turn), attack ジャングルダンプ [G][G][G][G] for 240 plus heal 30, illustrated by mashu. As a Mega ex card, when it’s Knocked Out, your opponent takes three Prize cards.
As of writing, no other Japanese printing of メガフシギバナex outside M1L is documented, so we describe these as “introduced in M1L” rather than “exclusive to M1L” — a set as large as M2a hasn’t been fully checked for this specific card.

M進化 vs メガシンカex: How the Mechanic Changed
This is the part a general Bulbasaur-to-Venusaur evolution-line writeup won’t get into, because it’s specific to the Mega form: the rulebook underneath these cards changed completely between 2016 and 2025.
- MフシギバナEX (XY-era, through 2016, M進化): Mega Evolving ends your turn on the spot, and the card carries no Ability — all of its value sits in a single attack. This was the original Mega mechanic’s tradeoff: a big attack, but you lose your turn to use it.
- メガフシギバナex (2025, メガシンカex): No forced turn-ending. The card gets a full Ability — ソーラートランス on the SAR — on top of its attack, and when it’s Knocked Out, your opponent takes three Prize cards. It’s a strictly more flexible design built for the modern ex format.

The Modern Venusaur-Line Sealed Product
One more Venusaur item worth flagging for starter-trio collectors: the Special Deck Set ex Venusaur & Charizard & Blastoise, released 2023-11-10 at MSRP ¥5,500. Three pre-built 60-card decks — フシギバナex, リザードンex, カメックスex — plus a Pokemon coin, damage counters, playmat, beginner guides, and storage, playable straight out of the box.
Important distinction: this is a Venusaur ex (SV) sealed product, not a Mega Venusaur product. It doesn’t contain either MフシギバナEX or メガフシギバナex — it’s the modern non-Mega Venusaur-line item, and we’re listing it here as a related pickup for anyone building out the full three-starter collection alongside the Mega prints above, not as a Mega card source.
