Mega Gengar ex (メガゲンガーex) debuted in September 2025 and has appeared in exactly two Japanese products since. No print exists in M1L, M1S, M2, M3, M4, M5, or M6 — as of this writing, the catalog below is complete.

One thing worth flagging: unlike Mega Gardevoir ex, which has a regular-numbered RR print (071/193) inside M2a’s main sheet, Mega Gengar ex has no regular-numbered print. Its only M2a appearances are the two high-rarity slots — MA and SAR.
The Entry Point: MEGA Starter Set 003/021
スターターセットMEGA「メガゲンガーex」was the first construction-deck product in the MEGA series, released 2025-09-05 — a 60-card, ready-to-play Darkness-type deck built entirely around this card, with a matching playmat, coin, and damage markers included at a ¥1,800 MSRP.
The card itself carries no printed rarity symbol (retailers describe it as “RR仕様” — RR-equivalent presentation — despite Bulbapedia listing it as Double Rare). Illustrated by 5ban Graphics, it’s the plainest of the three prints visually, but it’s also the only way to own Mega Gengar ex as a deck-native card rather than a pulled pack card.

The Middle Tier: M2a MA 230/193
MEGAドリームex (M2a) released 2025-11-28 as a 250-card set, and it debuted an entirely new rarity tier in the process: MA, Mega Attack Rare, a comic/manga-styled illustration that shows the card’s attack name worked directly into the art. Illustrated by Taiga Kasai, 230/193 is one of ten MA cards in the set (slots 223–232).
Every M2a pack is guaranteed at least one Pokemon ex or Mega ex per official Pokemon Center listing, though no official pull rate exists for MA specifically — treat any “1 in X boxes” figure you see elsewhere as community estimate, not official data.

The Chase Card: M2a SAR 240/193
Also from M2a, illustrated by danciao at the Special Illustration Rare (SAR) tier — one of 17 SAR slots (233–249) in the set, sitting well above the MA tier both in rarity and in demand. A JP ranking blog names it the set’s signature chase card, and among the three Mega Gengar prints, it’s the one collectors are most likely to be hunting for specifically.
Stage 2 Darkness type, 350 HP. Ability かげかくし (Shadowy Concealment): reduces prize payout by 1 when a Darkness Pokemon on your side is KO’d by an opponent’s ex attack. Attack Void Gale (ボイドゲイル): 2 Darkness Energy for 230 damage, plus an Energy move to a Benched Pokemon. Same stat line across all three prints — only the art and rarity change.

Not Mega, But Related: The XY-Era Gengar Cards
Before “Mega Gengar ex” existed as a card name, the XY era (2014–16) had its own Mega Evolution mechanic, and its own Gengar Mega card: M Gengar EX (MゲンガーEX). It’s a completely different card — Psychic type, 220 HP, attack “Phantom Gate” that copies an opponent’s attack — and it has four Japanese prints of its own, headlined by ファントムゲート (Phantom Gate, XY4) in 2014 and revisited in プレミアムチャンピオンパック「EX×M×BREAK」(CP4) in 2016.

In the same 2014 ファントムゲート (XY4) set, card 033/088 is Gengar EX — the base, non-Mega version. Only the adjacent 034/088 is the Mega card.
